Using my teenage years well (lots of free time)

23 posts in this topic

I have a lot of free time but no purpose so I'm doing a bit of hit-and-miss actualization. Can't figure it out yet. Apart from Leo's videos and the usual stuff, what's something I can do right now when I have a lot of free time to gain an edge later, when I have a vision, a purpose, so not so much time to do lesser (grinding) work? I want to say that now I have more time but it's less quality than later in my life (i hope) because then I'll have a stronger direction. Now it's vague. I can't do personal development theory all the time (leo and books), it's just not effective. So something more in terms of skills, or i don't know what that I can work on to give me an ease for later? Bad example : everybody actualizing needs to learn esperanto. so ill do it now and not when im 30 and i have to worry about financial independence. Now I have a shit fucking ton of free time. No need to worry about anything, school is easy. Want to use it the best! Don't know what needs to be done though.

If I can go back to my teens I would drop everything I’m doing and just work sincerely towards spiritual realisation, make it asap and only after realisation  start truly living and know what I want to do. Because when u r still teen your mind is not as corrupt with beliefs yet so it’s so much easier and faster. Nothing else is more worthy to invest time now. But that’s just me

I read lots of self help books to change my mindsets, since as a teenager your mind is still malleable.

@Gligorije

Are you meditating and doing yoga every day? If not, there's your answer.

The other examples here are absolutely good priorities to have.

I'd like to add life purpose work. I'd completely neglected what I would do with my life until I was a year out of high school.

First, go out and take like 15 different personality tests, and try and find similarities between them. I was consistently high in academic interest and capability, that's a great sign you should go to university. If you're low in academic interest but find out you're quite hard working, a trade school would be an awesome choice. If you're highly extraverted, try doing something where you're interacting with people all day. Figure out what suits you, you'll most likely find that a few of the things you're interested in fall in line with what suits you. Do that.

Then refine it, do the life purpose course here and selfauthoring.com. Those are 2 great resources. Start with self-authoring if you're tight on cash. If you do that, the rest I think you'll be able to piece together on your own.

This is a must do for teenagers. No buts.

All of the above.

Also: find a hobby that gets your body moving in a way that you enjoy, something that breaks a sweat. This is absolutely critical for your longetivity and overall health. Even better if you can apply mastery onto that hobby.

Learn new. I definitely recommend some energy work, such as the kriya yoga video. And of course normal meditation. The more you learn the more rewarding life gets in the long term even if you have to accept the difficulties on the way there. Know that you have absolutely huge potential with spirituality and allowing yourself to do the things that get you forward will be truly rewarding.

@Monkey-man

@YaNanNallari @YaNanNallari @Ether @molosku @Staples @Outer @heisenburger @aurum

Self-help, meditation and rreading isn't something i can 'grind'. it isn't a skill. sure i can go and plow through books but its more of a pleasure than grinding and its something im doing daily anyways.

What I'm talking about is a skill or some sort of education/knowledge which I can gift to my future self. Now that I have a looot of free time. Think of it like this - 20 years ago, you will wish you have started now - just that 20 years ago is today lol. That or just literally something that needs brain power (art fundamentals, thank you, i dont want that though) that my future self is gonna say 'god im so grateful i learned that when i was a teen'. When I find a LP ill start being more living-oriented. so my time now is less worth than it will be then. so i can afford to spend time doing lesser grinding work to get a skill that benefits me later! gimme ideas!

I got this time now which i can literally convert into something tangible for my future self. If you could just literally convert your past time and get something right now when you're older what would that be?

Thank you for all your replies. Good ideas, but its not the grind im talking about.  I should implement those things anyways.

@Gligorije

do all said above and other than that, enjoy your life.  you dont need to do too much beyond that, it might actually be damaging, having fun is the whole point of life, dont be too anal.

Maybe start a martial arts? I've just started Brazilian Jujitsu which is a lot of fun + a great way to meet people and defend yourself if it ever comes to it. Monks used to get bad bones from sitting inside and meditating all day, so they started doing Calisthenics to keep their bodies fit, which eventually turned into martial arts. Leo's top book Mastery is based on the guys experience with a martial arts. Watch some youtube videos about the benefits of Brazilian Jujitsu and the story behind it, and you might find you are very interested in starting it!

16 here.

I have not meditated in a while. I would suggest you start doing it though. Daily.

If you are consistent it does work. I had a consistent practice going for 3 months when I was 14-15. Happiest 3 months of my life.

In my opinion. Do not worry about getting good grades in school. If you want money, set up your own business. It does not have to be anything original. Cut peoples hair. Open a newsagent or Take-away. Basically, have something to offer to other people. People in your area like drinking and gambling? Brew beer. Set-up your own under-ground shady casino.

I do not know. xD

I have ordered a straight razor off amazon.

I plan to shine peoples shoes and give sick fades to people at my school in exchange for money.

@Gligorije LOL!

Good luck finding the magic pill then, you don't realise that what you're looking for is what we've all told you.

Learn to code or fix cars or something if you must have some "grind", but more importantly, find your life purpose. What's the point of grinding for something (that is what you want right?) if you don't know if you're aiming at the right thing?

@Staples @Lorcandunno how to untag on phone

@Lorcan thank you for the ideas! i do meditate daily.

@Staples you're right... i just feel im not ready/mature enough. so i resort to grinding to leave something behind for the future self. plus, there must be something that is gonna be useful no matter my LP no :D and that's what you all guys said. thank you staples!

ps more about fixing my shit psychology atm. that, for example, is a prerequisite for anybody actualizing don't even feel i can embark on purpose search before i have that in check

Look into this, sounds like a limiting belief to me.

I recommend getting a basic understanding of programming and other things internet you will definitely come into contact with that in the future and then you will know what you're talking about.

Build a skill, start as early as possible with building a skill. This is so valuable for later.

@brovakhiin yes, I think this is excellent advise! Game is an awesome first 'hero's journey'. Achievable but still very hard and scary.

And if done correctly it will bring about profound change in you. Just be carefull of becomming a pick up creep! this happens to quiet a few people unfortunately.

@Gligorije In addition to the usual suspects (practices & psychadelics).... learn to play guitar and sing, and write songs. Great for flow of ‘zone’ and creativity, learn discipline & dedication too, and gigs are great for confidence and as a social outlet.
