Maybe your depression is just vitamin deficiency

32 posts in this topic

I've had depression over the last 3 years, really weak willpower, unable to sleep, compulsive fast-food eating, masturbating, playing computer games, whereas before I was very disciplined, hard-working, and eating healthy.

I've been on a session with psychologist and she said to do a vitamin D test. I've done it today and the results are 8ng/ml. (<10 is deficiency, 10-30 insufficient, 30-100 sufficient, >100 toxicity). Holy fuck! From what I've heard from her if you have <20 it is bad, and I'm half of that. I'd go to my doctor, and ask which daily dosage he suggests.

I hope after I will raise my vitamin D levels my depression will alleviate to some extent.

@EugeneTheSage Thanks dude.

I think its easy to get dogmatic about something like depression just being trauma related or not having a purpose. So, appreciate you adding in another perspective.

That's what I've been into for all that time :)

@EugeneTheSage F it I'll do it as well, is there a way to do it online?

I've been hearing about vitamin deficiencies for years now and I never paid any attention to them. Truly horrible things happening

Edit: by online I meant sending it somewhere via mail

For me I don't think it's a vitamin deficiency, I think I've been supressing it at a young age. I really need to find what I need to contemplate my life on. I get rude sounding questions about my depression that don't get to the root cause. It sounds like I'm just playing victim when I'm not.

100000000%

Especially in the modern world

Average person eats shit, sits all day, 24/7 instant stimulation, porn, weed, alcohol etc etc and then wonders why their mental health goes to shit

I know its not easy for a lot of people, but I think you can also see what really is Trauma / Mental illness once you fix these deficiencies and bad habits

For me it was night and day difference once I sorted this out!

@LfcCharlie4 imo Most people are fine. They are not depressed.

Yes lots of them do these stuff but they are not depressed. There would be so much more people diagnosed with depression and committing suicide.

Depression is not caused by these things but rather add up over.

Its weird to me how some people in self-help say that average persons life is worse. Or something around that.

F.e. Hamza a self help youtuber always represents the average person as Jeffrey. Sometimes(or most of the times) he represents it with a depressed person. While most people are fine u know, no?

If you live anywhere in Northern Europe there’s a pretty decent chance you’ll be vitamin D deficient, especially if you primarily work inside, and especially during the winter.

Ive been taking supplements recently, for about a month. Not sure if it’s enhanced my mood, I’m not depressed but I do struggle with energy sometimes.

Thanks for the reminder!

Maybe it's not just vitamins but it can also be the lack of other minerals!

Also lack of sleep can play a huge role. Sitting in front of computer screen until 2-3am typically causes depression for me.

Nice, I also have depression; I’ve been taking Vitamin D supplementation for the past 8 years. Optimal levels yearly since ?

POIS is a real disorder. Have you ever considered your depression to have a correlation to your masturbation habits?

The prefrontal cortex is the regulator and the master of one's willpower.

I am happy to see you took the most appropriate approach in regard to your symptoms. Many people ignore vitamin deficiencies and write them off as bullshit advice. Vitamin D and methylcobalamin(b12) in my experience have done wonders for me.

Remember, one approach will not remove depression. Having MDD myself I can attest to that claim. It may take more than one approach to solve this stubborn problem you are experiencing(ie: Chelation therapy, ketosis, watching what you eat, caloric deficiencies, pituitary gland misdiagnosis, excluding certain vitamins, etc).

Great job on your "taking action" mindset. We definitely need more of you on this forum! Keep up the great work.

@Javfly33 Ukraine. During summer I was spending too little time outdoors wanting to work more. It backfired and now (1month ago) I'm barely able to work 2hrs daily. Now (now) I've feel pretty ok and able to work 4-5hrs daily
