In my opinion, this is beyond just being conservative.

The way I see it, having Trump as your commander in chief should feel like an insult to most military people. He is like a complete opposite of them, a caricature. A corrupt, hedonistic, golden baby draft dodger vs common people who work and train hard daily and actually die for their country.

Yeah, I think that the majority of the military and law enforcement don't really like Trump, but uncomfortably support him because the majority of them are conservative-leaning individuals and given the extreme political polarization our country is going through in this day and age most of them feel like it's always better to vote Republican than Democrat in any given election, because clearly the Republican party is the only party today that strongly stands for conservatism and American traditions.

Lest we forget, the same day of the No Kings protests a series of targeted political assassinations of Democratic lawmakers took place in Minnesota, to defeating silence from Trump and MAGA.

Live by political violence, die by political violence (as Trump himself almost did, and might still).

Zero sympathy for Charlie Kirk (Rest In Piss), but there's zero chance of anything good coming from this.

Most of them are not developed enough to see that. It's blind patriotism.

Yeah, that's a good point.

In the military, people are more amenable to mantras like "Make America Great Again", you need a unifying creed said over and over again to encourage people to engage in drone-like violence.

from what perspective America? lol The rest of the world is fine America your cactus.

I believe he was shot for speaking about the war in gaza specifically. But all things connect, there is no separation.

The rest of the world is not fine at all. Russia and Europe are on the brink of war. Article 4 (not 5) was just invoked tonight, after a large drone (and single missile) attack on Poland. China is close to invading Taiwan. Israel and Iran might as well be at war. Qatar just got hit by Israel. Most major economies are backing one country or another in a proxy war.

Its far from fine. Political commentators picking sides in this are unfortunately going to become targets, they already are in many theaters.

@DocWatts It is a good point that when it happened to Democratic lawmakers, the country as a whole moved on. And it never really became big news.

I can tell this is gonna be huge and as @Leo Gura predicted will only worsen thing both politically and socially.

And yes I do have sympathy for him. But running a political social media empire has it's risks for both sides of the political spectrum. Hence you will never see build my life around it. It's a very dangerous game.

Yeah, low-key, it is very weird that I broke down in tears about this because I do not agree with a lot of the things he said.

It's not weird. I teared up after processing the video and I hate the mother fucker. If you have a heart, you don't want to see this happen to anyone, not really. I hate to see things like this but these are the stakes we're playing with and people don't realize how serious it is until the shit hits the fan.

If Charlie Kirk knew it was his life that would pay for his 2nd amendment right, bet your ass he wouldn't say it was worth it. But other people's lives, yeah, he's was fine with that cost.

Now, right wing social media is ablaze and guaranteed this will breed more violence, probably tonight and in the days to come.

The military has to be conservative simply because it's hard to shoot someone in the face if you're a Lib.

@Flowerfaeiry maybe it's because your heart is still open? A connected feeling human being, this is good :)

Some of my thoughts are that he engaged people in dialogue at time when certain words or world views were off limits, this is a good thing. Bad ideas can be critiqued and through dialogue we get more clarity. And in that space his ideas were open to be challenged. He created space on campus that challenged the approved and asserted narratives, when students in class rooms were being scolded for wrong thought.

Awful.

The world of politics is confrontational by nature, but gun shooting is another level, unacceptable. How to stop it? I don't know, any dumbfuck can access a gun in the US.

My condolences to his followers. This sucks.

Couldn't believe this when i first saw this, it's quite unfortunate that speaking freely can result in your death, also considering the fact this will just be fuel for conservatives to passionately hate democrats.

even if you don't like him, it's easy to admit this is distasteful, even i enjoyed Charlie, while still being strongly democratic.

This just in:

Within 30 minutes of Charlie Kirk's shooting, another shooting happened at a high school.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/shooting-reported-colorado-high-school-2-kids-transported/story?id=125452526

America is a deeply sick and violent country.

Gun control and assault weapons ban, now.

Unfortunately, this event supports Trump’s narrative of his non-existent crime wave.   In a crisis, it’s the coolest heads that prevail.   That’s why I support Governor Newsom.

Yet, some prominent figures leading the military have been left-leaning.

TR was a military war hero who didn't mind putting up a fight if need be. He even killed several enemy soldiers himself in combat.

Woodrow Wilson was forced to lead the country in WW1 to help the Allied Powers defeat the Central Powers.

FDR was forced to lead the country in WWII to help the Allied Powers defeat the Axis Powers.

LBJ put our country into full-blown combat mode in Vietnam, which turned out to be one of the deadliest and probably the most disastrous war in the history of our country.

All four of those presidents were arguably the 4 most progressive presidents in the history of the country.

Plus, all of them, along with Truman, who was another prominent liberal president, were responsible for upgrading our entire national security state, including our military, in such revolutionary ways.

Don't forget that JFK, who was a liberal icon, and Jimmy Carter, who had several liberal beliefs himself, were proud members of the US Navy.

Funny how everyone started screaming and scattered like roaches as soon as the shot went. People can be really pathetic sometimes. Just a mindless herd.

Shameful.

Owen has really lost the plot. That's what pickup ideology does to the mind.

Well, he was specifically referring to Charlie Kirk standing up for free speech. Whether you agree with Charlie Kirk's beliefs or not, he was creating spaces for debate and discussion and standing up for what he believed in, which is respectable.
