I'm not sure science is taking a Truth perspective.  Why is this a hang up?  Scientists are concerned with cataloging observable patterns and testing them through direct experience.

It's a culture war, just partake in the non-christian community and enjoy it, this shows people "the light", you being a "light on the hill" through your joy and community.

Preachers can be entertaining more or less, so there's that.

Good point.

I think there's a confusion, a misunderstanding, and a conflation between science and scientism.

Science is an innocent tool. It is not a person. It has no agenda.

I don't think most people understand what they're criticizing.

You think? It would only be replaced by another version of it i feel.

I have a theory I'm putting together. I'll share more when it's fleshed out. The basic idea is that technology is changing the speed at which humans shed falsehood.

For new generations, coerced installation of bad ideas will fail at a much higher rate than ever, because the kids will have an instant confirmation tool in their pockets.

It's interesting if we look at history and analyze how false beliefs and bad ideas were shed over time, what made them shed, how resistant they were, what made them persist, etc.

It's not enough for bad ideas to be thoroughly up-ended with reason. We all know reason alone is super slow at propagating and we basically have to wait on entire cohorts of people to die off (science advances one funeral at a time). But there are other variables. The main one being "knowledge transfer". This is what AI is. Knowledge transfer is now in hyperdrive. You can look at what the printing press, a much less effective knowledge transfer tool, did to bad ideas.

We've only had high-tech knowledge transfer for a very short time. When every single religious claim can be investigated on-demand by new generations,  that's going to have massive implications.

When I was first shedding Christianity as a teenager, I was the only one I knew doing it and I didn't dare tell people around me that I figured out it was all bullshit. I couldn't discuss it with anyone because it was taboo and blasphemous and people feared I was going to burn in hell, lol. Most believers have questions, and historically they had no good way to seek answers. But this isn't the case for new generations.

There's a lot more to it than this but I think that's the broad stroke. The case studies of bad ideas shedding over time is really interesting.

250 might be too optimistic, but I think it's possible and maybe even likely. If not 250, there's no way it'll make it to 500. Just think about how old the US is and much false shit has been shed since its inception - and that was just with the printing press, radio, and TV. Now, add a tool that cranks the transfer mechanism up to 11 (AI), and realize nearly every kid will have access to it. That's not going to bode well for religion.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

@Inliytened1 To your point about replacement, I do think that'll be part of the process, but the replacements will be closer and closer to reality, not further away from it. My guess is, eventually all religion will be shed and replaced with spirituality.

Be the Christ to a hurting world. You are their only hope. And know well, only saving them will save yourself. To see God is to be God.

Might want to take a look at an updated version of Christianity called A Course in Miracles. For starters read The Disappearance of the Universe.

That blogpost about telling someone theyre hallucinating. I came across this woman in the pub a few years ago, id had a few beers on board and started chatting, only for about 5 minutes. I knew this woman, and wasnt trying any funny business, wasnt trying it on or anything like that, just chatting. Somehow i got on to the fact that this is a dream, wholly and completely, and just made a few pointers for her to investigate. I could see a tad bit of fear of the idea. Then i watched her walk to the door, and litrally run away down the street, gone, like lightning hahaha. God I was laughing. When i saw her again months later in another pub, she said hello and i laughed and said last time i saw you you litrally ran away down street. You just upped and left and ran away. She said just dont ever speak to me about that stuff again hahahaha. Message was received and never have. Not that I see her around often at all anyway so wasnt too fussed about that. But prime example of Leo’s blogpost and the ego’s denial

Rigor is a reinforced delusion that people treat as inherently virtuous. I had to argue about this with someone who said my English was not perfect. Thank God I can now throw everything into GPT to get it corrected and simply speak my mind, because most people are so annoying that even when the logic is right, they fixate on sentences that do not sound familiar to them.

There are situations where rigor matters and others where it simply does not.

Be rigorous when trying to understand reality or establish what is true.

--

Demanding rigor from someone who produces and posts a new work project every week is nonsense. Maintaining that level of output already requires hardcore rigor.

@Leo Gura Does God have a plan for the universe? Or does everything happen spontaneously with no purpose? You said once something like everything that happens is maximized for more love.

Can I fully trust into gods plan when things happen in my life for the greater good (not mine personally) or is there nothing to trust into. It all happens as it happens. it is what it is.

“There is not one person on Earth who can argue against life being a hallucination. Because, of course, it is. What else would life be?“

That’s a poetic line  because it’s doing more emotional heavy lifting than logical work. Saying  that life is a hallucination sounds profound until you ask what evidence distinguishes it from reality. A statement isn’t true  just because it’s impossible to disprove. If that’s the standard..then we’re equally justified in saying life is a simulation or a dream or a giant cosmic nightmare ..Beautiful metaphor? Maybe. Solid argument? No.

And besides why are you emotionally attached to defending the notion that life is a hallucination?  I can only imagine because it implies life is unreal then you can relax and take the stick out of your arse . But you’re hallucinating anyways . There is no real difference between a hallucination and reality so long as you are hallucinating. Just like inside a dream you live it as complete reality . So the only utility of claiming life is a hallucination is if you are doing serious work to literally wake up from the hallucination entirely. So long as you decide to keep hallucinating what’s the point of blabbering about life being a hallucination ?

“God is the Alpha Omega .. the beginning-less  beginning and the endless end .
He is the first without start . He is the last without end . He is the manifest actuality ..nothing covers him . He is the most hidden essence  ..nothing can grasp him .. nothing below him or more subtle than him .The ego is the belief I’m separate from god . Because being god is too good to be true .No matter how dark it gets or difficult it gets ..no matter how long it is going to take .. my destiny is the infinite happiness and infinite joy and love as the best thing ever ..God .  “
