I am generally more intrigued and attracted to odd, offbeat and striking looking people over basic beauty standards .. but this is getting full niche mode. Even for me 🤪

Wabi-sabi in Japanese aesthetics is the appreciation of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete."  So different from our western notion of aesthetics which seems to favor symmetry, perfection, flawlessness.

Oh yeah! Like Kintsugi! I forgot about this - I think my relatives have some pieces in their collection. I love the flaws in things ⭐☄️

It is far easier to trick someone, than to convince them they have been tricked.

The book "Digital Minimalism" by Cal Newport is a good example of non-conformist media use.

Thinking that highlighting/underlining sections in a book will help you remember them is conformity.

Really random one but when you are driving down the highway and everybody keeps just a little over the "two cars apart rule of thumb" distance from the vehicle in front of them because it is polite.

I don’t do it out of politeness. Radar cruise control allows the car do most of the work, effortlessly. The car’s sensors are conforming to the road conditions.

"Snus" in Norwegian high schools (nicotine pouches). Probably the purest example of conformity I've seen. Joining the military is basically always conformity and basically the entire culture there.

giving condolences after someone's passing/death

I know right we should all celebrate on a child's premature death

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

My high school best friend was so into guns and making explosives as a kid that he couldn't wait to join the military. He spent 10 years on and off in Iraq and has served in the military for 20 years. He loved it. It was his passion. It was the perfect job for his personality.

So no, it's not all conformity. Some people's life purpose is being a soldier or an explosives experts.

Blowing shit up is inherently cool.

Add Kriya Yoga and Kundalini to the conformity list. It’s definitely conformist and so is the whole chakra system. Awakening isn’t chakras and Kriya Yoga. The only reason why you do Kriya Yoga is because you heard from others that it would produce awakening most likely. However, there are non-conformist ways of doing Yoga, but it seems mostly conformist.

Edit: Following the Eight Fold Path in Buddhism is also conformity.

It is only through consciousness and its cultivation that one’s passions, one’s focus, one’s curiosity, one’s time, and one’s capacity to love can be actualized and lived to the fullest.” - r0ckyreed

Yes, all yoga is very confromist as far as precise techique.

But pranayama itself works and it is hard to develop it on your own out of thin air.

But for example, I use my own technique. It took me some years to break out of the conformity of yoga.

He may like it, but he still has to act like a conformist zombie to be in the military. Just because you love your conformity doesn’t make it not.
