Fear Of Christian Hell

81 posts in this topic

I'm afraid to let go of my Catholicism (and be God) because I'm afraid if I leave the faith, I'll go to Hell.

Any tips on getting rid of this fear?

What's up with the threads about hell?

If hell exists ..then so be it.  The only thing that will save you is knowing that all of reality is illusory and that ultimately nothing matters.  Let whatever the fuck happens to happen.  Unconditional Love .

You are not afraid of hell. You are afraid of the idea of it. That is why you are also afraid to let go of the idea of Catholicism. Catholicism and hell are both the same idea. Liberate yourself.

"God is not a conclusion, it is a sudden revelation. When you see a rose it is not that you go through a logical solipsism, "This is a rose, and roses are beautiful, so this must be beautiful." The moment you see it, the head stops spinning thoughts. On the contrary, your heart starts beating faster. It is something totally different from the idea of truth." -Osho

@CroMagna

Yes, you'll go to hell, and it'll be one of the best things you'll ever do.

The fear that you have is irrational and unfounded. You've adopted on faith a concept of hell from an outside source, and now you worry about what could happen if it is let go of. First notice that at some point you didn't have such belief.

Whatever you are must exist prior to mind activity.

This is how  Catholicism holds you trapped.   You are going to have to rise above this if you want to truly discover reality.

Just recognize that it isn't grounded in anything more than stories you were indoctrinated with as a child.

It's child abuse, really.

There is zero emprical evidence that God sends non-Catholics to hell. And it makes no sense why God would do such a silly thing. Do dogs go to hell for not being Catholics? Lol. Are we to believe that all the aliens around the universe go to hell because they aren't Catholics? This is a cartoonishly biased notion.

If you really believe in a loving God, then such a God would forgive you for mistaken beliefs, not punish you for it.

Fear is hell, imho.  It accompanies ignorance. You fear that which you do not know. If you are afraid and fearful, you will not conduct life consciously and will make a hell of your present life.

I mean you're already in hell, if you reach enough consciousness that becomes very obvious. But it's relative to your consciousness, that's the key. Most people will not experience this world as hell like.

Most religious people don't understand what they're saying most of the time, they're kind of repeating a script sadly. And while some of that script was maybe originally from a truth teller, it gets twisted over and over, mostly due to lack of consciousness.

You don't understand what's it's like unless you've become fully indoctrined into it from birth.  And bought into it.

It's impossible to get out of.  Just like materialism.  It's burned into you.

Of course, like anything really though. Ultimately you can only really count on yourself right? I mean I had to go off on my own entirely tbh. Well I guess you can't entirely, unless you were born already with knowledge like some prophets.

There are some who don't have that extra gear you have - to break free.  They cannot think outside of the paradigm they were brought up in.  I always held out that there was no God - so that kept the beliefs at bay.  But there are many that don't.  And for them breaking free is near impossible.

Most people don't at this time.. but that was by design too. There are many layers to this "jail breaking". I guess I'm trying to say you can get caught anywhere in that process. Fear of being alone is prob an underrated factor..

They can be helped though, with much patience usually, as you prob have learned through teaching.

One way to identify what is likely a social construction and what is not is through memory. Imagine your memory was wiped clean today, you lose everything you learned in your life but you still keep your verbal and thinking skills etc.

Would you still be afraid of hell? No. The only reason you fear hell is because it is a powerful idea that was installed in you, that plays into your human psychology and biases, attaching itself like a parasite, feeding the belief in the dogma, spreading it and keeping the construction alive.

It has been implanted into your mind from a young age and is connected to a large web of beliefs, perhaps about how you are inherently evil, how punishment is justice, how you deserve to suffer and ideas about how God is this all seeing eye that is watching you every second, every minute and passing judgement to you and everyone you love. Consider for a moment that none of that might be true, it might all be a construction. How would that feel?

Consider that maybe all that is like a psychological virus that intelligently plays the human mind like a flute to spread itself. These beliefs are not an essential part of you, they are just deeply conditioned constructions. And it's possible to live without these specific beliefs.

So, when those thought come up realize "oh here comes the program again", it's not you, it's not based on anything real that you see, it's a story layered, a filter on top of reality which you have been trained to look through. And it can be hard at first to even realize you're wearing those glasses, even harder to eventually take them off for good. Also, if you don't have another set of glasses to put on then the ones you grew up with might always feel the most attractive in times of crisis for example.

So start building a worldview as your personal project which somehow integrates but transcends all these beliefs you hold. Or you can also go the deconstruction/atheist route at first to get some healthy distance from those belief systems, but I think ultimately the anti-christian atheism should not be the end point, but that's for you to decide. Look into the history and development of the concept of hell and heaven, contemplate the idea of hell and if it really makes any sense for you.

Eventually this web of beliefs will start unraveling and you will get a kind of meta perspective on these belief systems and how they operate at the mind level, playing into various fears and biases that most of us as humans have. It might also be completely healthy and valid to take serious distance from any engagement with those toxic idea, just looking at it all as a pure constrution, a fantasy. And all those reasonable and kind people you know in the church, they aren't stupid or bad people now, they were just looking for answers in this life and this rather intelligent belief system managed to hijack their mind, but that doesn't make them bad people, just makes them human.

Good luck!

You're already in Christian Hell, but you don't label it as such.

Recognize how much your beliefs are influenced by others. Knowing, feeling, understanding, looking, etc., is done by you and not others. What if they are wrong? You can never trust anybody to do things that are meant for you to do, but they have indoctrinated you into believing the opposite. That's why you can't look deep into your beliefs and actually question them. You think there's nothing to discover because it's already been done for you and is true. You believe that it's those priests or someone else's responsibility to give you the answers. That's the illusion that you have to see, and when you do it, you'll see how those people are also like you but afraid to do it, from priests to working people, because they really don't care about the truth.

@CroMagna You make a good point. You can straddle both worlds forever or you can choose one world and commit. Consequences be damned.

You are talking about blasphemy. Maybe god created this dream and put taboos in place for our benefit. Or maybe the devil put taboos in place to keep us from truth. Taboos are blasphemy, satanism, incest, drugs, cannibalism, sex, porn, etc. Some may be evolutionary or biological in origin. Some may be methods of control by the elite.

I say god realization is the correct path. No free will, no self, solipsism, etc. Jump in the pool. The water is fine. But beware the dangers of ego and the devil. Be well. Be safe. :)

First off I congratulate you for asking such a bold question and taking responsibility for your own personal faith. What might help you is learning about different religions. See the structure of religions and how they all play with the same existential fear. It's what keeps believers together. You might have heard there is no fear in love. You're scared because your religion is not loving.

How did you get into Catholicism?
