Point Out My Bias

87 posts in this topic

You are against maps. And although maps aren’t the territory it doesn’t mean they aren’t useful. I hope in your books you will map (read: model) things out because you claim to be tier 2 holistic. But your work is not holistic at all. Only the stuff you borrowed from Wilber.

This preoccupation with calling out academics and scientists. Yes, science is not the ultimate truth. But science is just a tool no different from a screwdriver.

Of all the problems in the world today, we would be better served to listen MORE to scientists and academics, but you spend about 50% of your content shitting on them. The world is wrought with science denialism, and you're behaving like we're all praying to the church of sciencology.

I think you can speak about this in a more nuanced way.

@Leo Gura I think you operate under ableist biases. I believe I do as well as I typically don't assume a person is disabled in some way when speaking to them online.

The reason this is relevant for you is because your spiritual teachings explicitly assume a normal psychology rather than a mind with some kind of disability. This includes various mental health scenarios as well as spiritual genetics that prevent people from being as naturally gifted at spiritual practices. You therefore are aware that almost nobody on this forum will awaken or realize they are God without parroting whatever you tell us while individually deceiving ourselves.

My question would be concerning how much depth do you look into mental disabilities? It looks like a subject you tend to avoid looking more closely at even though this forum inevitably attracts people who are suffering such as those with PTSD from child abuse.

Part of me is wondering if only you are able to actually verify your spiritual claims because of psychedelics interact with your particular body rather than the body of a disabled person. I'm wondering if people with mental disabilities who claim to have spiritual experiences without psychedelics might complicate your current position depending on how much depth you put into exploring these conditions. Schizophrenia would be one. I have autism. There are plenty of others worth investigating.

In my case, I don't know how you would evaluate the experiences I describe. Some cultures think that sleep paralysis dreams come from people with a higher spiritual sensitivity, although my research and understanding rejects this. I did have some sleep paralysis episodes, but it appears to be a manifestation of whatever a person's unconscious insecurities are, oftentimes rooted in PTSD. I saw many things including a ghost dressed like a prisoner.

I feel like all of this complicates the hallucination in terms what a spiritual experience is. I definitely saw clearly general grievous from Star wars standing over my bed before he transformed into my closest door. I don't know how to evaluate which hallucinations count as a spiritual experience and which ones don't.

Do people with mental disabilities complicate which hallucinations would count as awakenings if not just psychedelic experiences? Are these people more or less conscious and how do you tell? If your framework assumes a normal psychology, then I think you have already cut out a large chunk of the population which is a significant bias.

I would love to hear what you think of this.

Also if you saw general grievous for real, you would be terrified. That thing is a monster, not something you would be fascinated by when in the flesh. I wonder how this compares to people who saw Jesus in a dream and if it is equally reliable by comparison for determining a savior.

I think, you are biased toward cognitive contemplation over energetic and bodily contemplation of movement, Qi, etc.

I don’t really know you. I’ve seen you address a lot of stuff, change over time.

Probably any topic where you get emotionally flared up and  the reactivity of the mind is very strong is likely going to have an ego bias in it and is worth looking into it.

A bias that most people's problems are mental and not physical.

Your ratio: 99% of peoples problems are a lack of growth and development. A self-development bias

The real ratio: Most people are physically ill, not mentally ill, Making them neurotic, stressed and dysfunctional.

People that look perfectly healthy are not, they have a shit base level high.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

I think Leo is pretty spot on with religion. It’s his view of science that is over-generalized. Religion is mind control. It’s a spiritual circle-jerk. They don’t care about truth. If they did, they would admit dressing up for church is more about community than it is about questioning their assumptions and mythology.

@r0ckyreed Religion is a framework in which happens infinite interpretations of reality.

I find it weird how Americans have a very strong opinion on politics no matter what conciousness level you are. I feel Leo has strong political opinions too.

@Leo Gura hmm I would say maybe more small subtle things, like the idea of what would actually heal the world versus what is spiritually promoted by gurus as healing the world, for example that enlightenment or God realisation will solve anything in this world or be beneficial, or that truth is always the right thing, compared to realising a more subtle form of communication that might be more intuitively guided rather then "always be truthful" which can be radicalised into the negative, especially social and radicalise unnecessarily and unbeneficial to yourself and the world at large.

@Leo Gura A healthy post on this forum.

What I have observed from following your work since 2017 that transitioned from basic self -help to advanced spirituality , that's growth in a nutshell.

But I also observed over the years that you learn heavily towards - Negativity bias - a well documented concept in psychology .

Also when I first interacted with you after joining the forum I was surprised that how such a mature self-help teacher who changed my life was very harsh with me and his audience .

It created a split image of you in my mind.

I know it sounds ridiculous but it's worthwhile for you to watch your own video again  - Counterintuitive nature of life.

Yup people are selfish but doesn't it lead to selflessness since you know selfish people run companies, create technologies but it leads to betterment of mankind as whole. I mean just look around - Coul you possibly imagine we would be interacting on this forum if internet wasn't created due to whatever selfish reason.

I have experience of applying self-help since 9 years and my journey began with Actualized.org.

I also learn heavily towards negativity bias and overlooked the counterintuitive nature of life but as I applied it my life deeply improved.

When you target people you don’t like do you do so with an awareness of non-duality, as a form of play, or are you still acting out of unconsciousness.

If this is all you.

  • You are biased against donald trump
  • You are biased about your own intelligence you think yourself more intelligent than other humans.
  • You are biased about yourself being a good Person. All these claims that you could have made millions by monetising your YouTube channel shows you’ve actually the tendency to do so and aren’t really that generous.
  • You are biased when you use the term corruption all around. You use the term corruption everywhere you see yourself in the lens of the Victim.
  • You’re clearly biased about the fact that you need life purpose to live a beautiful life. You are biased about your life purpose.

  • You are so biased against Artificial intelligence.
  • You are biased about your youtube channel. You keep posting about understanding the egoic mind. But you are so defensive when someone step on your toe. You clearly are speaking what you haven’t done.
All this ego’s defense mechanisms that you claim you have understood actually got you by the balls and owning you. You are still not free from your own baggage but think you have gone passed that and became more developed than you actually are.
  • You are biased abouty your own development and perhaps your IQ. I think in fact you overestimate your intelligence.

  • i’m biased against some ethnicities even tho a lot of them are great people
  • i’m biased against very fat girls
  • i am biased against people that make sound while they eat with an open mouth and don’t close their mouthed that shit makes me instantly angry, or people who whistle. Whistling sometimes make me angry.

Out of curiosity, what makes you gravitate towards politics.

My understanding is that you are taking these Meta concepts about studying a person, ego, collective and then trying to understand politics through that lens. I get it. Its interesting maybe. But it's not like your passion per say. Since it it is were so, then actualized.org would be a political channel. I think you made one video with all the policies you would actually implement. When your life or work doesn't really affect the political landscape directly, why have such strong opinions? Maybe reality is that you need to be a little devil for the greater good? That's always a possibility.

As an outsider, it feels like everyone is compelled to have an opinion from their pov. An ice cream man also has an opinion like why make it so hard to sell ice cream on street and how to change that. Teacher thinks they should be paid 250k which also makes sense.

My observation is not that you have an interest towards politics, more so you take everything you learnt and apply it in a political lens, which literally every American does. I'm not against it. I simply find it fascinating.

May be because I'm an immigrant and these things never affected me in survival sense. I'll be in canada today, couple years later I'll move us, later maybe europe.

Also since India has been a colonial or ruled by someone for over 1000 years, people naturally try to find loop holes, meet their needs and move on. So there is not that much pressure to choose a side like in America

In America, it feels like if you aligned in everyway except the political party then it's a deal breaker.

@Vido Not to derail this thread but sit down and listen to his political videos. They are more advanced than anything else on YouTube. Or, most anywhere else.

You want the most high level, advanced and non-partisan teachings on politics? Leo Gura did that.

Strong need to be intellectually right, even over everyone.  A dislike of being disagreed with.

Strong disgust of humans and people who not completely unbiased, but ignores own bias and assumes an absolute perspective.

Very moralizing, but denies morality exists in theory.

Strong preference for absolutist over nuanced thinking,  E.g., all and every instead of some and sometimes.

This thread is a good foundation for a shadow work video!  It takes guts to ask for this kind of feedback.  Respect!

Again, my thing isn't that you have an amazing opinion, i listen to it, that's how i know so much about American policies, more so than Indian politics.

I don't understand why it is an identity thing . This behaviour works only in politics, it's like if i had super strong opinions on fishing and amazing insights on catching a fish, but i myself never fish myself or participate in fishing....then what is point of making fishing part of my identity?

Its like I'm shouting into a void of fishermen hoping they will listen to me, which is fine as a hobby. But to make an identity feels a bit too much for me

Last thing I would say is that you are a very intellectual person, which is a gift. But with that gift can also come a curse and this might not be a bias, but more of something to be aware of. Because being intellectual and thinking comes many times also from a hard life and how much is a hard life alligned and the thinking of a hard life alligned with a good life that is actually happy and joyful. So forcing yourself to meditate versus just doing something fun for the sake of complete unproductivity and fun, like stupid jokes with friends, just having a nice coffee somewhere without thinking about politics and not even to "meditate" just to enjoy life beyond "GOD REALISATION" or any intellectual insight or even any channeling of God, just enjoying the simple things in life like eating an apple. looking out of the window, giving your family a hug and buying some great things, just stuff that isn't too intellectually based. This is not critisism, because without your intellect you wouldn't have built all this amazing stuff, like this forum and your youtube, but for your own happiness it might be standing in the way, even "meditation practice" can become just another task on your to do list then just having more fun and enjoying life.

I love your perspective on this and it's very insightful. One counter point I would add is that you might not care about politics, but politics cares about you. It's our duty as citizens of a democracy to be informed and involved with politics as much as possible and the more the better.

Those who don't involve themselves in voting, news, and politics are asking for, and acting like they live in, a dictatorship.
