The fact that I am not a creative person makes me sad...I don't want to live anymore

5 posts in this topic

I tried so hard to make art using my imagination. But the only thing I can is to copy things from life or internet pictures (and I am not good enough in that either). I really wanted to become an artist but nature didn't give me the right genes. I am talented in informatics (I don't know informatics, we did informatics in high school and I just was really talented at it), the only thing that I am talented in. But I don't like informatics just cause I am good at it. I like art.

I really wish I was someone else. Not a low IQ autistic uncreative guy. I am powerless, when others get creative ideas my own mind is just blank.

I had no meaning in life, art became my meaning. But I am not good at it. So I have no meaning in life now that I am going to do drawing just for a hobby.

All I can think is Leo's video The radical implications of Oneness in which he said ''in another life you will be mentally retarded''. This is the life he was talking about, and I can't do anything to change this situation... why am I even living? Can I do anything at all to change this situation?

Hey man, there’s nothing wrong with it being just a hobby. Also, I’m sure you’d be able to create something that would feel personally meaningful to you. It doesn’t necessary have to be „wacky creative”, right? Like, what inspires you in life, what would you like to express through art? Perhaps try making something like that, and ultra creativity is not a must.

I can hear you’re frustrated but let me assure you: you’re not „mentally retarded”. I’d suggest you try crying out your frustrations and vent out to the world, it’s probably all stuffed inside you now, so best let it out. You’ll feel better then.

Also, you know, best artists steal. Hell, nothing wrong with copying too since you’re at the stage where you’re learning. Accept yourself, the place you’re at as a being is really not that terrible man. You might just need a slight change in perspective. You are really enough.

What do you mean? What is an example of something you think is creative (give me a concrete example of an art piece)?

Intrinsic joy = being x meaning ²

You become an artist by copying. You cant come up with anything. Everything is copied. I have specific artstyle my artstyle is created by 50 other peoples art styles. But I put them together and I get my own.

If your hobby turn into your job suddenly you dont like anymore anyway. Cause you become forced to do it not when you want to. Now your hobby is gone and you are in the same spot.

I went to school for animation and art and it was terrible. It ruined art for me. Suddenly my hobby i liked turned into a chore and now I dont even want to do it anymore.

I have some techniques that can aid creativity.

1. PNI technique (Positive-Negative-Interesting)

For any idea you come across you can generate ideas about it by finding 2 of the following:

- Positives (Things you like about it)

- Negatives (Things you dislike about it)

- Interesting (Things you find interesting about it)

For example, take birds. I like watching birds fly, and the American eagle. I dislike bird poo, and when birds fly close to me. I find it interesting how birds are able to fly, and how aeroplanes are similar to birds.

That is a way of generating ideas about any topic.

2. Random connection technique

Pick a random object and connect it to an idea.

This is another way of generating ideas around a topic.

For example, say you are thinking of art. Pick a random object in your room, and try and connect it with art. I have a coffee drink in my room. Here are some connections between coffee and art I come up with:

- Both can lead to a change in emotions

- Much art comes from abroad, and so does coffee.

- I like coffee and i like art

- Art and coffee both draw strong opinions. Some people love them and some people hate them.

- Some people claim that both are a waste of money.

3. Alternatives

Another way of generating ideas.

For any view on something try and come up with three alternative views.

For example, take the following view. The traffic is annoying. Here are some alternatives:

1. I am annoyed by the traffic

2. The traffic gives me time to slow down and take a breather.

3. It is interesting why traffic congestion builds up sometimes, and sometimes there are no traffic problems.

Note: I got all of these from Edward De Bono. He was an author who devoted his career to helping people improve their creativity.

There is no failure, only feedback

One small step at a time. No one climbs a mountain in one go.
