AI is making me lazy, what should I do?

Btw, is it just me or Claude Code got really expensive lately for less session times? This shit costs a lot of money each month.

Separate writing the code from designing and conceptualising the architecture and just get really specific about the boundaries the ai must operate within. Eg: not coming up with any solutions you didn't think of. You can boost your productivity by not wasting time regurgitating syntax. And spend it where it really matters: solving problems.

You can create a custom ai within ChatGPT or Claude that is restricted to only operate within the set parameters.

No reason to deny yourself the productivity boost.

If your business is to provide web development services to clients, stop focusing on just development and more on providing the client with solutions, marketing and sales. You have to be creative with your mind. Once a website is complete, clients are looking to generate sales and revenue: consultation hasn't been replaced by AI. Talk with your clients and actually understand their problems. Most web developers focus on pushing out websites and calling it a day. They care little for their clients business.

Build up other skills: AI increasing your ability to be productive? Then learn something else while you produce more. Simple.

If you are building a product, stop focusing on coding and start building real solutions. When developers complain about losing their ability to code or AI is frying their brain, then use your mind in another way. I've spent 15 hours per day building up a SASS product with the assistance of AI and I'm a software engineer with a comprehensive guardrail/conductor (non-AI and human quality review). Before AI, I've iterated, built and launch over 700+ websites and designs.

Instead of focusing on coding brackets, I turn my focus on building products that provide value to the world. The democratizing of coding should be used to create solutions, building competing products that can be offered at a smaller fee compared to corporate monolith or finding gaps into the market. AI accelerates you there, your software engineering skills makes you better than 99% of vibe coders. Built something that's worth a damn and put your focus on that.

Everything else is noise.

Am I lazy or am I efficient? Or am I just not keeping up with my peers? Why am I worried? Who am I living for? What's my purpose? Wait let me ask AI.

@Toranvor It feels like I might be sabotaging my long-term growth. What happens if I lose access to these tools? Or if I’m in an interview? Or if I need to solve something novel without AI? Am I trading competence for convenience?

You don't get it.  You will never loose access to these tools. They will be there forever.

You will be never in an interview for coding again. This is your last job. Keep it as long as possible.

You don't trade anything. Your competence is obsolete. Your skills are not needed anymore.

The worst part of AI is that it increases your impostor syndrome on 10000x.

Before AI you feel like cheating. After AI, you think you are just receiving money for not working - it almost feels like you're a thief.

Do they have some plans of how to move forward? Like for example how do teachers distinguish actual vs ai generated homework?

Homework is no more.

The going joke according to my brother is "heck if you are gonna use AI to write your papers then we will grade them with AI."  Basically whats rbe point anymore.

Lol.

This is like paying for a gym membership and using a robot to run the treadmill for you.

The treadmill was designed for your benefit. No one is forcing you to use it.

People are acting like homework is only done because it's some law from God. Homework only exists because doing it grows your brain.

This is just a stupid mindset towards education. You should be giving yourself homework because you want to learn.

You might as well just not go to school at that point.

Lol.

And meanwhile AI tech bro CEOs are acting like all we need as a civilization is more AI.

Does any of them think of implications?

Yeah, people justify not educating themselves because AI will solve it. Brains are needed to grow AI and AI tech CEO's are trying to hide that fact, while stealing human data at scale and adding sneaky TOS and auto-approve toggles to steal data (example: Github turning on AI to train on your coding data and most people will overlook this and not toggle it off). This is where I agree with Leo: it's the devils playground. It's thieves at scale, but refuses to admit they are thieves and justify it by making their purpose to help humans, but really just an venture capital farm looking to make a profit, first. I wouldn't be surprised if AI companies starts harvesting deceased human brains for AI optimization. But, they are already harvesting digital brains and human creativity. Our intelligence doesn't need a nuclear reactor, GPU and ram to function: an apple can do a lot of creative things with our brains.

Lazy written prompts are now a goldmine for AI once everything else is stolen.

That is like saying “my car is making me lazy”. Take some agency. Just because you are using a car doesn’t mean you can’t do other stuff. AI gives you free time to do real self development. Stop listening to AI party poopers. They just have low IQ.

@AION But kids are using it to avoid thinking, and reading, and writing, and study, and homework.

So yes, it is making people lazy and dumb.

Yes, a car does make you fatter and lazier. Which is why we have gyms and treadmills.

AI makes me even think more. It is a great sparring partner. I wish I had AI when I was 13 years old to be honest.

Children need to be taught responsibility but teachers don´t have responsilibty themselves so it is a mission impossible. The problem is not AI. It is who is using it.

AI can´t be rolled back anyway. Everybody can run it locally if they have a descent PC. Only solution is education in socratic thinking without bullshit and intellectual masturbation.

Even basic teachers don´t have basic socratic thinking skills which AI does have. Although a lot of students misuse AI, there are also a lot of students who benefit from AI too. Let´s look at both sides of the coin.

I think it's a bit more nuanced.

A car doesn't replace you - it makes human life easier. The technology assist us.

AI can assist us, but it has the danger it can replace large parts of humanity. For the first time technology isn't just assisting and enhancing human life - it can actively replace large parts of our existence.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

I've trusted that things go into Da'at.

Whatever you learn exists in this space of Da'at.

I was told that once. Nothing you experience is ever forgotten. Some kind of mystic idea. Still figuring out the truth of it.

However, its given me the confidence to learn, and forget, learn and forget.

Now AI gives us the capacity to fill our subconscious with information, then we can go around practicing Wuji  and meditation, or yoga, or walking, ect, and let that information sort itself out into something meaningful. Rather than needing to be the logical function, we can let AI be the logical function, and we can use it as a tool, and we can abide in emptiness.

Giving that we are a species of hedonistic weakness. We'll have to discipline ourselves to strengthen the qualities we want in our life. So whether we have AI or not. We still gotta forge our own self.

With AI doing all the work, you have time to study and practice.

You're delegated to AI? Prompt AI to teach you why its doing what its doing. Form a feedback loop where you work in conjunction with the tool to understand why it does what it does.

Imagine the day that the COVID-kid generation grows up after being socially isolated in their youth and having had endless access to iPads and AI brainrot brain substitute

Godspeed

Over relying on AI for thinking, writing, contemplating and decision making will make your brain go out of shape.

So you'd have to pay $20 per month to keep access to your mind
