Music Frame Discussion

All music in a genre/style sounds similar. That's what a genre is. All rap music sounds the same to me. All country music sounds the same. All jazz sounds the same. This is true of any genre you dislike.

And don't try to frame your genre as deeper than others.

Deeper is a bad term. What does it even mean? It’s true that some music genres are more complex & nuanced than others. Does it make them deeper? Who’s to say? Better? If you like nuance sure, otherwise no. Nuance isn’t a guarantee that you’ll like it but it does make it more sophisticated. It’s dishonest to say that all music has the same kind of attention put behind it.

You can listen to some music 100’s of times and hear new things every time. Try doing that with “baby shark” for fun.

~

5th grade math is deeper than 2nd grade math.

Your work is deeper than Neil Degrass’s work.

But no music is deeper than other music? Lol

@No1Here2c That’s why I said deeper is a bad term. It implies hierarchy of value whereas sophisticated, complex & nuanced are more factual.

Depth ultimately is a matter of your personal experience.

Depth is poetic language.

Leo hadnt made any arguments that any genre is deeper than another. I think he was pointing more at the fact of the subjectivity it all is cased within.

Of course. I wasn’t arguing that or pushing a genre either.

People are biased and like to believe their fave genres are deeper than others.

Some Star Wars nerd is gonna feel that Star Wars is super deep. For him it is, once he nerds out on it for a decade.

Damn you guys need to chill with your "I'm sO anTi cOrrUptIon thAt I cAn'T liStEn to rAp".

I love rap and I don't really give much of a shit about what they rap about.

If I did not have rap a massive chunk of my happiness would be gone. There are just certain moods where rap works just perfectly to amplify that mood, feel alive and dance.

Also I think the movement of rappers is genius. The way they dance. It is both powerful, but also relaxed. It can be argued that this is a superior way of movement from the daoist perspective. You cannot have power without weakness. In the same way, you cannot have strength without relaxation.

You cannot tell me this isn't a form of true power. The power of not giving a damn.

If I didn't have metal, dubstep, rap, I would be significantly less powerful.

Music is psychoactive.

Yes you can take a psychedelic or you could do what lil Yachty does and walk on a stage SOAK up that energy. And he can handle it since he is relaxed and non-attached.

The body mirrors the mind and the mind mirrors the body. It is impossible to be attached in the mind and relaxed in the body nor is it possible to be relaxed in the mind and tight in the body.

When one is relaxed and flexible, not only is the intelligence of the fascia activated, but there is a stable controlled flow of energy which leads to immense power.

If you think about it, a good performer has control over their audience. Again if that's not power I don't know what is.

You just haven't heard local Norwegian rappers from Ørsta/Volda rapping about fjords and the beautiful mountains and biking on acid.

Heh heh all these attempts to psychoanalyse Leo based on music taste 🙃🙂🙃🙂

@Leo Gura is this too hard for you (it's your taste, deeper house prog)

And does this hit the mark?

Pure curiousity.

I can't really use music while doing anything that requires serious thinking. I must be deuronivergent or something.

Same here. I could listen all day to music. beeing mega super aware of the music, but contemplating nearly nothing :-D I really need silence for contemplation.. but thats a personal thing i guess.
But I am a musician.. can be all day in that music world just for the sake of music listening and playing

I lied. I remembered a Song that sets me in a quite contemplative state.

Rofl this gonna turn into a 'Do you like this Leo?' thread.

My suggestions were ballpark for Leo but I tried to push the limits of what he might like.

But I gonna admit, you aren't really trying with music if all you do is skip through on first listen. You have to listen to the full thing prior to dismal. Otherwise you castrate your own ability to experience novelty and broaden horizons.
