ITT music elitism

Just the fact that the music tastes thread is in the Spirituality section and not the Off-Topic one is already putting /mu/'s level of pretentiousness to shame 🥴

ROFL that board is giga-chad levels elitism. You don't even need to complete a sentence to get shit on with immediate and surgical precision 🤣 Same with /fa/

It’s always so interesting to me to read how normal people experience music. I love that music has so many forms that any ear can find something to latch onto while being so infinitely open that interested ears can dig deeper forever. It’ll find a way to get through picky & open listeners alike!🥰

@Natasha Tori Maru

You talk about music like a musician!

You guys might as well be arguing over which food is best.

Of course I have a style that I like.

It's a bit more specific than just a style.

let's imagine you were to post gongs every week. week 1: " i love this gong so good for contemplation", week 2: "this really is one of he best gongs" week 3... week 4.

Every time you post music i have to go back and listen to the previous one to figure out what changed, the variation is so slight.

Its like week 1: valina ice cream with 2 sesame sprinkles, week 2: vanilla ice cream with 4 sesame sprinkles. week 3: vanilla ice cream with 12 sesame sprinkles "and this time you emphasize how amazing it is" lol

week 1

Week 2

week 3

week 4..

Do you see how over specific this is?  It all blends together.

It's like every heavy metal song I have to go back and listen to the previous one to figure out oh OK "the yelling in this one is different" 😂

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

My assumption is that Leo has been listening to this sort of music for a decent & while his consciousness is much more in tune with the nuance than you or I would be. Without spending countless hours developing a relationship with this style of music we will never truly understand the nuance. Likewise with all of us down here on the earthly planes.

It is okay if you arent attracted to it. There is only so much room on that server anyways ;)

You aren't attracted to it. Hence the reason for a myriad of forms to chase after here. We want fun yes, but want everybody to have a little bit of a different kind of fun. Find the style you are in tune with and flow with it.

Music is vibration. Music is energetic.

Find the energy that vibrates best with you for what you need. Music is a healthy tool in as far as I am aware. Utilize it.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with his preferences, i want to know why it's such an extremely narrow range lol

None of this music is stuff he grew up with. It's not even part of his childhood, why is it so specific?

Its reasonable that "tranquil dream music" is good for contemplation, its all makes sense from that frame.

I feel like some people are more into an artform than others are which explains wider taste.  People who aren't into music that much have a very different set of albums or songs they listen to.  I'm the same with visual arts, I have very little interest in that so someone who is really into visual arts would look at the pictures in my house and probably cringe a little.

@Joseph Maynor Some of that reminds me of Traffic....

@integral Listening to this by Traffic and I forget I exist. That's how I gauge good music. Whether I get lost in it or not.

LMFAO actually i am that guy, it was a thing.

But I need to ask, is it because on the blog you only want a certain type of music to represent you?

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=lDlU08RU7Tk&si=sQmDr8m7p_-XY-Px

John Williams Jurassic Park. When you hear this, do you feel anything?

Does this trigger your childhood in anyway? Star Wars the main theme do you feel anything at all?

Do you get a sense that this is a masterpiece?

No. This is just what I listen to.

I like chill, mellow electronic music.

Deep house, chillout, synthwave, instrumental.

I don't do any rock, hip-hop, rap, metal, etc.

What kind of monster do you take me for?

Sure, but that's very specific kind of music. I don't listen to that kind by itself.

Lone might blow your mind a bit then. I dunno how chill you'll perceive it to be, but some of his stuff is pretty chill IMO.

How Google AI describes my music style:

Genres: Deep House, Chill House, Indie Electronic, and Melodic House.

Vibe: Atmospheric, melodic, and "chill," often described as emotional dance music suitable for both relaxing and intimate dancefloors.

Characteristics: Melodic hooks, smooth electronic textures, and often soulful or soft vocal samples, leaning towards a sophisticated, downtempo, or mid-tempo feel.

But I don't think he has addressed why it's that specific emotion that he prefers over others. What the deeper meaning or map behind it is?

Sorry that I have to do this but here it goes:

I have thought about the connection between mayovirginity and music. Also, I have a unique view on EDM since I spent hundreds of hours producing it, and therefore contemplating it.

I have observed that, if one is more on the ADHD side, they like listening to "meaningless" music (remember: people with ADHD are insensitive to meaning and ideology).

So EDM basically. (the way I use this word EDM here is roughly this: music that is mainly produced by bedroom producers with the production as the focal point rather than the band, the singer, the lyrics, etc.) The thing with EDM is that very often it doesn't have lyrics and if it does, the lyrics are very shallow.

EDM is pretty much identityless. It does not really point to some Identification with a Group. (Counter examples, are: "I listen to country music, because I identify with the American way of living" "I listen to rap because I identify with a rapper lifestyle")

People listen to EDM Listen to EDM for its qualia (hsp) and for its pattern (autism), not because of its poetry. I'm not sure what effect being HSP has on the music taste. I think being HSP just means that music has more ability to conjure emotions in you. If music can make you cry, you are likely an HSP.

The more autistic a person is, the more repetitive the music is. A lot of autistic people like techno, for example. Not changing one's music taste at all for years is also something that autistic people like to do.

If you are way more ADHD than autistic, then what can happen is that you like super chaotic music like hyper pop (notice that the lyrics of hyper pop are often deliberately shallow and nonsensical. Examples: 100gecs, Dylan Brady)

I remember listening to the exact same kind of music as Leo when I just got into liking music in the first place. At first, I only listened to EDM and at some point I only listened to dubstep which is batshit insane if I think about it.

At some point this narrow music taste was just too limiting for me because I could not connect with anybody through music, so I forced my music taste to evolve and broaden.

This decision had an extremely positive effect on almost all of my relationships and I never looked back. Music taste was the cornerstone of my last longterm relationship.

All music in a genre/style sounds similar. That's what a genre is. All rap music sounds the same to me. All country music sounds the same. All jazz sounds the same. This is true of any genre you dislike.

And don't try to frame your genre as deeper than others.

But it's also immediately obvious which genres ain't for you.
