As dark as possible.  Lights off (chargers, TV standby etc), curtains closed. Yes I miss the sunlight in the morning but that's the tradeoff.

I think I once heard a podcast with Lebron James where he said that this is how he learned to optimize sleep (total darkness, total quiet)

Here are smart words that present my apparent identity but don't mean anything. At all.

It's very individual.
For example, cannabis keeps me awake, and conversely, a little coffee helps because it reduces stray thoughts; it's almost an anxiolytic for me thanks to its attention-enhancing properties.
Masturbation helps a lot of people, but for me, it makes me more manic; having orgasms at night isn't good for sleep.
Some people like total darkness, for others it's disturbing. In fact, many children sleep with a nightlight, and they forget about it as adults, but you're no different, and maybe you'd sleep better with it.
Besides, in nature, darkness and complete silence don't exist; there's residual light reflected by the moon, the stars, and the atmosphere; the sound of the wind, animals, and other things...

I do keep the curtains open & wake up with the sun. It doesn’t work a few months in peak winter here cause the sun gets up super late. I think that’s probably why I am craving sun the rest of the year.

Falling asleep comes easy for me if it is as dark as possible, not too hot and quiet as possible. I tend to cover light with blankets/towels that I can't otherwise turn off. It is also better that it is a little bit cooler where you sleep, such that your duvet actually warms you. If it is too cold, I put on a shirt or a sweater and I can instantly feel it is easier to fall into rest.

Rumination is probably what keeps me up the most. A good practice is to note what your grateful for that day, you accomplishments, etc. as a kind of mental hygiene.

I can feel a distinct difference if I try sleep with or without an orgasm. Orgasms make it easier in my experience.
