This isn't far off from an intuition I've had for a long time now, that Donald Trump is an amalgamation of everything that's bad about America. Trump is what would happen if you were to condense two and a half centuries of narcissism, ignorance, delusion, incompetence, greed, and xenophobia down into one person, with the aim of making that person an Avatar for a lack of virtue.

It's pretty incredible really; you have to be a really special person to have literally nothing that can be considered even remotely praiseworthy in your moral character.

To be honest, it really saddens me so much.

How can a great country have such problems. I become very nihilistic whenever I think about this Trump debacle. Kinda makes me lose faith. It's such a deep sad emotion that I can't say in words. How did this even happen, I still can't believe it.

I think Trump has amplified something ugly in the American psyche that's always existed, but has come more to the forefront in recent years for a host of reasons. I do wonder though that even if Trump never existed, whether something like the MAGA Cult would have arisen eventually as a result of societal trends over the last half century. I refer here to trends such as a collapsing middle class due to Late-Stage Capitalism, racial anxieties dues to changing Demographics, the emergence of online echo chambers, and the like.

There was the Tea Party movement which launched during Obamas term - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement#Public_opinion

It was basically republicans who wanted more libertarian policies and were opposed to Obama, about 28% polled said they were part of the movement, so not really near Trumps numbers but still a good chunk of people. Obama said movements like this painted him as a far left socialist and because of that the pendulum swung too far back which is why people like Sarah Palin and then Trump came through. I think what Trump has done is add  unashamed, populist language to this underlying movement and empowered poor people to engage with it, even though a lot of the time theyre actually voting against their best interests.

So basically there was a relatively little, manageable fire simmering and Trump put rocket fuel on it.

I wonder if the Libertarianism of the Tea Party movement was really just a smokescreen for Birther-ism and other White Nationalist adjacent ideologies. When I think of the most high profile Libertarian figure in America in recent memory, Ron Paul, there's no way in Hell he would have sat back and blithely accepted the blatant Authoritarianism of the Trump era (regardless of my other disagreements I have with the man, he was definitely principled in his opposition to Authoritarianism, at least within a Libertarian context).

Also Ron Paul had no problem working with Progressives on areas with which they agreed; such as protecting Civil Liberties from things like the Patriot Act, and dismantling the American military Empire, to name a few. At least he was operating from a position of Good Faith, something that can't be said for Trump or any of his Cronies.

Guys, Biden just won the recount for Georgia! Now that the recounted has been completed, AP has finally officially called the state for Biden!

Also, I forgot to mention before that I actually ended up being right when I said last week on Friday that there was a 99.99% chance that most of the mainstream media organization would officially call it for Biden on the following day (Saturday).

However, the Trump campaign technically is unfortunately entitled to pay for another recount, which they probably will do. :/

I wonder how many years with good (normal) presidents it would take to restore America's reputation in the world. 8? 16?..

... America is still one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world regardless of who has been president. Even you said so, so why ask a stupid question about reputation. Lol

^why are you so hostile?

Americans certainly aren't "powerful" because of 74 million inbred idiots voting for a Hitler wannabe, that's for damn sure.

Nice, lol, compare him to Jones who urged hundreds of his followers to drink cyanide-laced punch in what he called a "revolutionary suicide", killing 918 ppl.

Very dramatic. I won't be drinking any laced punch any time soon. Sorry to disappoint. ?
