How I would distinguish them is as follows.

Ontology concerns the generation, differentiation and stabilisation of patterns.

Whereas when we're looking at epistemology, we're observing the pattern itself.

So for me, epistemologies accurate formalisation is in the evaluation, correction, and refinement of those patterns.

Or at a greater scope, ontology produces the world-pattern; epistemology regulates its nature.

Ontology - Generate > Differentiate > Organise > Stabilise
Epistemology - Evaluate > Correct > Refine

To add, given I am working on a related theory, you can find a recursive loop between them that reflects a reintegration point.
Thus..

Recursion -  Reintegrate > Regenerate

At present, I am working on stabilising the recursion between the two through a stage theory of the mind. Your mention of ontology and epistemology reminded me of their operative feedback relationship.

To know is to see, to see into is to refine, to refine is to form and thus generate from where we started.

We become the patterns we integrate, and they become us to level of imagination we put into that reintegration point through inventions and so on.

But yeah, language (ontology) is not just fundamental, its primary and the beginning. 

Epistemology, to extend the language to a particular dialect as an analogy, is the refinement that not only makes it transferable between people, but also, interestingly, has throughout history served as a basis for social discrimination where language sophistication was often social signalling for social class. 'Class' is an analogy for how all humans are there own ontology so to speak, the first breath of their eyes, reflecting the breadth of vision available to them, and their waking conscious, their epistemological capacity in raising their model, to a higher epistemological standard through feedback loops that are not just cognitive, but foundational to how their whole nervous system functions.

Our whole nervous system, is an ontology, and our capacity to discern the difference between what knowledge is available to us about reality through our nervous systems versus the potentially available knowledge outside them, including where they are instead available to other nervous systems, like other species on planet earth and abroad, is our epistemic threshold on our ontological breadth. This is philosophical depth that most never touch or even adequately grasp abstractly, its just not tangible sensitivity. 

It all recursively weaves together, formalising this all together allows the possibility of curating a developmental path that any interested student can understand towards their own mental independence.

I do wonder if Actualized.org ever has a chance of going mainstream. 

Contemporary people need wisdom about how to raise their consciousness in a more modern package, and not in the typical ways in which it is conveyed, which is basically organized religion. 

Also, if Leo's message of epistemology and conscious politics goes viral and popular with generation Z, and maybe with those a bit older, then that would really help raise a new generation of conscious voters. Because right now, we have a problem with zoomer "groypers" and those subscribing to far right ethnonationalism, conspiracy theories, etc... 

Imagine if instead of Nick Fuentes, America First ideology and antisemitism, what if the next viral craze with zoomers was Actualized.org, introspection, and philosophy.
