Conformity Examples Mega-Thread

246 posts in this topic

You can see a lot of conformity in blue culture, In our country women have to wear a small gold pendant to signify she is married(after marriage), also applying sindoor on their forehead.
celebrating birthdays of holy people.   Wearing threads from holy places.    Bowing down and touching feet of elders.  Making kids.

I will be waiting here, For your silence to break, For your soul to shake,              For your love to wake! Rumi

Be careful you cant use the word conforming here or else Leo is gonna smash a skull over your broom. lmfao

"Your body is constantly adapting to nature's course. Even to keep the body temperature as it is requires a lot of adapting. Without this constant adaptation the body wouldn't last long."

It's understandable why you want to use the word conforming because your body has to adhere to the rules of an external system.

You guys are conforming to Leo's definition of conforming.

There needs to be a special term for people who try to conform but fail out of incompetence :D

@Leo Gura Meditation even though it's important is conformist.

Self-questioning in the self-help space is conformist. But still it's an important practice.

Kriya Yoga, Pranayama, Supreme Fire is largely conformist. Most people are just following the techniques from others without question. You could say that about 90% of meditation techniques. Just note where you learned to meditate and why you meditate really. Why do you do pranayama?

Ive been trying to say this for a long time but nobody here agrees and it is that Buddhism is group-think conformity and so are many meditation traditions. Of course, there’s still value in meditation/Buddhism whether youre conformist about it or not.

“Our most valuable resource is not time, but rather it is consciousness itself. Consciousness is the basis for everything, and without it, there could be no time and no resource possible. It is only through consciousness and its cultivation that one’s passions, one’s focus, one’s curiosity, one’s time, and one’s capacity to love can be actualized and lived to the fullest.” - r0ckyreed

Yes! Good. I didn’t see your post before I made mine. Great minds think alike! Oh wait, that’s conformist parroting too! :)

However, questioning isn’t conformist. You’re wrong there.

What are you talking about? Borat is extremely conformist. Here is one example out of many:

It can be conformist if you don’t question your own questioning xD

:D. Funny clip.

It's not conformist if you have a passion to learn something new and it happens to be a gangsta lingo. As far as I'm concerned, I see a guy who is completely unashamed to be himself.

For example.

The social domain.

You are being too nondual here.

It's like I'm telling you a dog bit me, and you are saying, "No Leo, you bit yourself." Okay.

Not at all. It's more like thinking that your reaction to the dog bite could come from something or someone other than yourself. Your preferences, for example, are already generated by you in your own experience, both the conformist and the non-conformist ones. It does seem, though, that this preference for nonconformity may well be based on a desire to feel special. And this occurs within a social context, which you yourself generate as well.

You guys are starting to annoy me.

Am I wrong; isn’t what you “really like and doesn’t comes from “conformity”” ego as anything else.

I meant that a good epistemology deletes cleavage and would easily delete conforms/nonconforms one.
