Leo what do you mean by just "acting properly?"

I mean basic principles of game. And not behaving on awkward creepy needy ways. This is what game teaches you.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

It doesn't matter if every man can do it. What matters is if you can.

You are looking to see whether you can accomplish something by cueing off of other people.

Focus on becoming the kind of man women want to follow. Make that your mission for the next decade. Everything else is noise.

Ace!

Additionally, the belief that is at the root of these perpetuating thoughts is 'I am hopeless'

This belief, left untouched, will lead to it becoming a comforting thought. 'I am hopeless, no point. I don't have to do anything now. It is all out of my control.'. This is a very smart way our minds work to protect themselves from pain. Hopelessness is a protection mechanism.

If you can catch whenever you have those thoughts, it will help. Awareness is the first step.

Because at its absolute root - this is the hidden belief that needs to change. Change that thought and action will begin to feel good and easy. Because the action you take to socialize will not be in resistance to the 'I am hopeless' belief. Further to this, people subconsciously pick up on when others appear - shall we way - 'burdened' by these sorts of feelings. It will be difficult to project a feeling/state of 'burdened' and attract a positive, loving partner. So working on that thought/belief by catching it could be of great assistance.

The longer you become comfortable with the current hopeless thoughts, the further your mind will fall into cognitive bias. Going out and socializing is very important, because this will begin to help you prove to yourself through experience data points that this hopelessness just aint true!

You can make it :x

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

In my experience, you can drastically help this situation by moving to a city with an abundance of people.

Try living in Europe.

No a real man doesn't do things for women or for people in general, a real man is not attached to having a girlfriend or any symbol or general.

A man is solipsistic, he makes his cocoon and eventually a woman falls into it, but what is important is the affective state of the cocoon independently of its form, that is to say the forms that constitute it. Man embodies the symbolic order as Lacan would say and from the moment you surrender your suzerainty to external symbols (a "woman", a "job", a "religion", the "truth" (to troll you a little)) you become a girl/homosexual/bottom.

The goal of rumination is unconsciously to compulsively maintain the clinging to the imaginary phallus; that is to say the image of a self who has such and such an object demonstrating his power/phallus.

If you look at the most virile men, their common point is paradoxically the absence of ego. If they don't have a girlfriend or are suffering at work, they just accept and smoke a few cigarettes to cheer themselves up while waiting for the situation to improve; there is no resistance, no rumination because what is perpetually trying to be symbolized is what is repressed/refused again and again.

Defense mechanisms are very energy-consuming, so people will even tend to paradoxically exaggerate their ruminations, unconsciously to increase the chances of admitting castration and finally relieve a little of the weight of the imaginary "the one who must/should have x" (and who does not).
