I'm in Vegas because it is convenient and affordable. It has great roads, no traffic, no nasty winter weather, fun nightlife, not too large to be dirty and noisy.

There are nicer places to live but they are expensive or inconvenient.

I wanted to live in Austin but the traffic is a nightmare.

California is crazy expensive.

Vegas is a nice livable city. Tourists don't even know what Vegas is really like. I'm not on the Strip doing tourist stuff. I live just like you would in any normal city. The Strip is just a small part of Vegas. Outside the Strip Vegas is just a normal city.

Vegas is a very practical place to live. You get all the convenience of a full sized city with none of price, dirt, and congestion. The only downside of Vegas is the hot summer and fewer local girls to date.

I live in Austin right now, and honestly while it’s a cool city, the traffic is unbearable, and the heat during the summer is deadly. As the saying goes “summer here is winter”, meaning you gotta stay indoors during the peak hours of the day in the summer.

@Leo Gura if you did have the chance to live in NYC, would you have tried it out?

My parents live there. I went the first time last spring. It's nice but I don't think I'd stay there unless I had a nice house and kids. I don't care for car cities. It's a very cool place to explore though. I really like the desert nature, but prefer trees. I think it sort of lacks culture though and third places. I can't imagine dating there if you value long term monogamy. I have mixed feelings on this city.

@Leo Gura What's your favorite area of Las Vegas?

It seems like a very nice place to live, even if the summers are hot. I feel like this city fits you well.

Fair enough. Although I would object that there are still much better places to live if you put effort into finding them. I guess you want to stay in the US? It would be out of the comfort zone to travel but man, Europe is amazing. A few suggestions:

- Utah

- Oregon

- Washington State

- British Columbia

- Portugal

- Spain

- Medellin, Columbia

Either way, your choice. Enjoy.

It looks incredibly ugly and with no access to nature.

I bet Leo would enjoy Portugal's Lisbon or Spain's Barcelona. But the best place for Leo in Europe would be Italy's Florence or Italy's Allasio. Allasio is a small costal city near Monaco, I've been there once and I absolutely loved it. Also for Leo would be great Germany's Munich or Dortmund. Westphalia region is Germany's jewel and is so Leo-esque.

You have access to red rock canyon and mt Charleston for some respectable hiking.

Cheap cost of living besides gasoline.

It's a small city with not much traffic so you can get anywhere fast.

Downside is tourists come and go so can't develop relationships too easily.

Overall I would give the city a solid 8.0/10 for cities within America.

I stayed at an AirBNB in Vegas once and I loved it. The apartment complex I was in was super pretty and nice, and the locals were really friendly too. The grocery stores and everything one needs to live a normal life is all close and convenient, and the city itself is super clean.

I spent a summer there working and I fell in love with it. I lived in a small village called Nemden, near a small city called Bissendorf. I was shocked to see how clean everything was and how rural and country-esque everything was.

No. I hate big cities like NYC.

I would not live in any big city, like a rat in a concrete box.

Is it a good city to move to for someone in their late 20s/ early 30s with a good career? I’ll be working in medicine

I don't know about how medicine career works. You'd need to research opportunities.

But otherwise yes.

It is a desert. One of the few environments I don’t like.

That's why it's affordable.

You can't have everything without a fee.

You want perfect weather? Pay 3x higher rent.

Everything has a pay off I guess. I live in a middle sized city with a lot of high oxygen forests and quick access to bigger cities. Rent is ok here.
