The best disturbing movies you have seen recently

26 posts in this topic

I love disturbing movies where the atmosphere is very deep and anxious. Where the main characters are losing their mind. I will put some of the best movies I have seen in this category.

  • The Lighthouse (2019)
  • The Platform (2019)
  • Midsommar (2019)
  • The Witch (2015)
  • Valhalla Rising (2009)

What are your favorite "disturbing" movies?

Annihilation. Nothing comes close to the psychedelic horror in that movie.

Not a movie, but Until Dawn is even more disturbing as it has an interactive component.

In terms of movies I don't think I have anything to offer.

The Road (2009) is nice.

Also Annihilation, every time they talked about cells and mutation I had to run around the house from all the discomfort I was feeling.

Have you seen Kynodontas/Dogtooth (2009)?

EDIT: Just watched it. It's not disturbing, just super weird. I didn't like it that much to be honest.

I can't believe I have missed that one. Natalie Portman is my favorite actor.

You should really watch it then. I've never been so disturbed by a movie before. I thought it was just a fun movie about girls going on an expedition ?

The thing about that movie was not how scary it was per se, but how it made me feel mentally unstable. I've never had that with a movie before. That said, I haven't watched that many movies in general.

I'm not really into horror movies, but I love bizarre-deep-mind fucking stuff. Under the skin (2013) also has that kind of atmosphere you are looking for.

I like "Predestination", although not sure if it passes as "disturbing" since it's not a horror movie :D

Melancholia (2011)

Also, Nitram (2021). That movie disturbs the hell out of me. I literally can't watch that movie anymore.
