4-AcO-DMT Major Negative Side Effects Help!

34 posts in this topic

A few days ago i gave my girlfriend a small micro-dose of 4-Aco-dmt, she had an experience of an immediate silencing of her mind with no visuals and a mild depression. The issue is after it wore off she noticed her mind was not functioning the way it used to and many of her cognitive abilities where impaired. I assured her that this is just the after effect and it's still in her system and it's going to wear off in a few days. well it's been a few days now and her cognitive abilities haven't returned.

After questioning her about what the differences are this is what she wrote:

  • Thoughts are all mixed up
  • Example: Her inner voice "I sh could x is" -> Translation "I wish i could fix this"
  • Example: Her inner voice “Yeah, thi cool me ra chcraf shop” -> Translation “Oh yeah, this is a cool name for a witchcraft shop”
  • her daily tasks require significant more effort
  • there is constant stress in her body stuck in a stressed state
  • she can't visualize images in her mind clearly like she used to it's all a blur
  • she can't form sentences in her mind the words are choppy
  • she can't visualize colors
  • She used to always be in a flow state but now her mind is slow and it's hard to focus on 1 thing, it's hard to breath when doing tasks even just watching tv
  • she's deeply spiritual and could Astro project easily but now she's cut off from all of that, there is a wall between her physical and metaphysical
  • Persistent headaches and waking up with headaches
  • Major brain fog

She's becoming very depressed and scared that it's not gonna come back. and this is devastating for me, I feel 100% responsible. she had in the past taken a lot of shrooms and had great experiences without any issues, so I didn't predict anything like this was going to happen. I thought it was gonna be like psilocybin except without the digestion issues.

i'm looking for answers into what is going on here with her brain, why it's happening and how to fix it. There's been a clear drop in brain cohesion and I have no idea why it's not reversing itself after a week now, i've seen this happen with other substances like marijuana.

Thank you for any help! It's an emergency!

@Danioover9000 What nootropics or general nutrients/supplements do you recommend?

@Michael569 Would like your input on this if possible, what nutrients/foods/supplements do you recommend for rehabilitation? Maybe she is not getting enough dopamine or serotonin?

Who do i contact for this, what specialist?

As for supplements im looking in to omega-3, Citicoline, lions mane. Foods the general good stuff for brain health.

@integral Keep her calm and give it a few weeks. Give it a chance to clear up.

Also, have her integrate the trip.

@integral i agree with Leo, maybe the substance has a long half life in the body or utilizes detoxification pathways that are not as effective in humans so it takes longer. Hard to tell.  Give it time to be detoxified. I wouldn't throw other stuff in the mix, it may just get in the way. let the body do what it needs to.

If situation worsens, consider contacting Emergency Services, there are things they can do if they suspect toxicity

Maybe what she is experiencing is a temporary psychosis. In that case shadow issues overflow daily awareness. However i would sugest you don't wait anymore and take her imediately to a professional psychotherapist or psychiatrist.

1) Emergency Room (if it doesn't get better).

2) Also since I keep reading about your gf on this forum, does she know that you post about her here? (ie did you get her consent? coz some of the stuff you post are very private).

Stick with natural plant substances that are compatible with our biology.  All it takes is one dose of the wrong synthetic to create permanent damage.

Micro-dose of 4-aco-dmt is not supposed to have any effect if shrooms are ok. Shrooms are a cocktail of substances while 4-aco is a pure substance.

Whatever your friend is feeling is probably exagerrated x10 by her constantly thinking about it. Probably something to do with her belief system. I can bet she has some kind of natural = good, synthetic = bad philosophy and it's fueling her fear.

This statement is ungrounded, without evidence, in regards to this particular substance. Plus saying this to the affected person would only possibly make their condition worse by scaring them, so there's no point in saying that. Wrong advice.

I didn't make any claim about the specific substance.  I provided the general warning because of the seriousness of the consequences.  I believe in natural substances.  Correct advice.

No emergency room or doctor is going to fix that.

LOL was thinking about psychosis (which can be calmed down with a sedative), but seems like in this case it's manageable and she's not outright panicking.

Forgot to check the obvious, check for anything else she might've been taking around that time that can have a synergetic effect.

@Leo Gura @Michael569 Against everyone's recommendations she insisted on taking a bit of shrooms. About 60-75% of her cognitive function returned and she felt like herself again. What this suggest i think is there is no structural damage to her brain and her cognitive function is still present its just that the AcO is acting like a serotonin receptor antagonist and blocking or downregulating all her serotonin receptors the opposite of what it does for people who trip on it. This explain why her mind went silent, she had no visuals and she felt depressed, it blocked all her receptors stopping brain activity. The second issue is it seems like she cant detox it efficiently, its stuck on the receptor or the receptors changed to a downregulated state.

So far doe she is making some improvement, headaches are gone and its a bit easer to go about, she had a dream again, but its still 20% at best. Im looking into krill oil, vitamin C and 5-HTP.

Her symptoms appear very similar to SSRI withdrawals and am speculating how to upregulate or turn back on or grow back or remove antagonists from the serotonin receptor 5-HT2A, the receptor psilocybin works on.

Ill likely do nothing doe and wait the month, but maybe there is a move that makes sense here.

@The0Self Do you have any input on this situation?

@puporing Yes she knows i post about her, she asked me to make this post and reads things i show her. I don't want to expose her to some of these comments doe. Also no she wasn't taking anything at the time.

and 5-HTP.

absolutely not!

If the mechanism you're describing (serotonin reuptake mechanism antagonist) is indeed how this stuff affects her brain then the last thing you want to do is flood her body with more serotonin precursors. In fact, even doctors are warned not to mix SSRIs with 5-HTP or St John's Wort. You risk giving her serotonin crisis and making her temporarily manic and delusional. Also, I'm pretty sure that's not the only mechanism and that the effect goes way beyond only serotonin modulation. You're probably looking at noradrenaline, dopamine and glutamate manipulation as well and probably effects that are beyond the scope of monitoring for the mainstream neuroscience impacting the brain's electrical signalling and neuroplasticity.

Whenever in doubt, let the body handle it.

I know you want to feel like there is something you can do t help, but in all honesty, you're better of leaving it, the body has 100,000 years of evolution behind it. Let nature do what it has learned to do over those millennia and stop interfering.

It's some fine A-grade bullshittery I am reading.

Those stories you are telling yourselves about what's happening with your friend are more of a case of hypochondria than scientific thinking.

I am ok with you both believing whatever you want to believe, but please don't spread your conclusions any further than this thread. That would be misinformation.

Your friend just needs time. As always with psychedelics.
