Desire is the splitting of oneness into separation just for the joy and pleasure of reunification.

guys its like you guys are describing how desire interacts with other elements or its function.

I'm just asking what is desire. Like the substance of it, like if you had to manufacture desire and create it, what are the ingredients.

Hmm. What is the difference between appearance and the source? Like are you saying the source is like cosplaying as desire?

Yes

If that is the case, why do they feel so different. Like what is the costume made of exactly that is making us experience desire exactly

Leo would say: It's survival.

It's always survival.

Desire is the emotional reaction when you have a survival need that you want to be fulfilled. But it's not always logical or necessary. The mind can be wrong about what it needs to survive.

Don't be shit. Be good.

desire is non acceptance.
it happens because the ego wants to become whole again
but the only way for it to become whole is radical acceptance.

I think survival is a desire and not the other way round. I mean you can always say it's all for survival end of the day but i think desire is more root and all desire has a flavour of survival baked into it

That's insightful, ego wants to be whole to increase survival?

But why is there this want in the first place, like what is this mysterious thing..that is driving us.

The more i reply to you guys, the more mysterious this thing feels to me. Everyone knows it but no one knows what it is. Just like take it for granted, yep we desire.

Well that’s something you have to figure out, no one else can help you understand what you desire to understand.

You could ask AI maybe it knows what desire is.

Any answer you read here is also a story. Just like your desires. It’s fake. It’s an invention. It’s bias. You desire stuff that keeps the falseness of you’re identification intact. If you didn’t seemingly desire finite stuff you would just die and realize every thing that can ever exist is desired by God and that’s why it’s here. Human desires are stories for children. It’s crucial to play the human game. If you don’t pretend there’s a game there’s no more game. It’s a life and death story.

Human desires don’t even exist. Free will is an illusion.

God desire is infinite love & creation.

because GOD can never be unwhole it needs to create an illusion to experience separation.
That illusion is ego.
ego wants to be whole because its true nature is GOD.
basically wholeness is the true state
and separation is the superficial state which will ultimately turn into wholeness

When you haven’t eaten for 3 days, you desire food. If you run intensely, you will desire water. If your member gets hard, you will desire release. This means that non-acceptance or transcending desire doesn't necessarily make sense.

It’s about survival, but it’s also a driving force for evolution. Also a driving force to comfort the human organism. Comfort is important.

It seems the question is best asked from multiple angles.

What is the evolutionary function?

What is it phenomenologically?

What does it produce individually?

Is there really a difference in the desire to eat when you’re hungry vs a desire to accomplish some goal, aside from your stomach growling? IME, they seem like the same thing. The mind identifies something it wants and fixates on it. It’s hungry for something.

The only reason to transcend the hunger is if you don’t want what it will produce. Spiritual people don’t say a desire for God is bad, because God is what they want. Don't let spiritual people gaslight you that all desires except for spiritual desire are pathological or should be transcended.

Desires for non-immediate physical survival are preferences you can drop or maintain, depending on what is best for you, and the extent to which you can set them aside.

What if this is just fascination + identity + seriousness being inflated into universal importance?

@Vido I think desire is the longing for unity through physical means. If you can't become one with the cosmos/god/universe, you will try to become one through sex with another person, food or otherways to feel a sense of unity/bliss/extacy. And in a way we can never be one with God completly  until we die, enlightenment is just temporary, a state of being in oneness/samadhi until you got to take a shit and haven't eaten for a few days, then you remember you are not completely one with God yet.

I think that's closer to who desire is rather than what it is. But it is an insightful perspective.

Someone mentioned the concept of bias so I'm thinking in that angle now. Something that happens after a bias is recognised

Well there are a few ways to answer this question, perhaps an angle would be separating desires from needs or cravings or compulsions.

I'll answer in terms of a duality angle, if we accept that we are the whole universe experiencing itself locally through us then, desires are really our relationship to time and space itself. Time for wanting to create things in your life that will take years and decades to accomplish like a life purpose and space because for me to be sitting in my room now I miss out on the rest of the universe both in terms of what's going on in my city but also the planet and universe as a whole.

So your desires allow you to experience the universe on your terms and create an individualized experienced of infinity just for you.
