Leo was right about fighting and martial arts

9 posts in this topic

So, I did make a threat months ago in a sense that I did not agree with Leo's statement about fighting and "martial arts" being unconscious thing to do. I was wrong.

I slowly started understanding that every gym, every martial art session and every big fight event is just pure survival (which is quite obvious while writing this lol, survival literally was our ancestors fighting for their food with wild animals and other humans).

Don't get me wrong I still enjoy training and moving my body, but I definitely avoid big sparring sessions and head trauma while trying to "prove" you could beat someone else or that you are a tough guy. It is empty ego boasting and a survival tactic trying to maximise the potential of being respected and liked by others, especially girls.

And girls do love fighters, but they are also all about unconscious survival. I won't even get into the topic of female nature. Who understands it, knows what I mean.

To everyone out there who wants to prove something with fighting:

There is nothing to prove to no one. You are literally God's unique creation. Don't lose your one source of understanding and making sense of the world trying to prove your toughness. (Your brain, CTE is a real thing and I am glad I never accepted to compete in Kickboxing, instinctively I knew it was dumb idea)

Thank you, Leo.

Yeah the injuries are one thing and it's also a negative sum game. Ideally you should bake a win-win component into your life purpose otherwise you're just gonna profit from someone's loss.

Yes fighting and martial arts are very stupid in the grand scheme of things. Sure, there are some positive benefits like improving one's physical health, teaching basic self-defense, increasing self-esteem, and using your skills in the defense of the innocent - but a number of those things can also be attained through playing sports or basic exercise and weight lifting. It's not really necessary to indulge in the subtle glorification of violence. It's an ego-centric survival activity that seems like a relic in the modern world we live in now. If that's not immediately obvious, just pay attention to the culture and the kinds of people that partake, it has a lot of parallels and tropes to gun culture. There are just so many more worthwhile endeavors to spend your time and energy on as a human.

Besides that, it's almost comical that years and years of effort can be instantly erased in about 3 seconds by some unstable person or anyone willing to escalate things when they pull a knife or a gun on you. No amount of physical fitness, training, or fantasizing a scenario about using some secret martial technique in your head over and over is going to help you when you're bleeding profusely from your abdomen. Source > Paramedic.

Obviously those situations can be rare but they are definitely more likely among the fighting crowds and people who carry themselves the wrong way from an inflated ego.

I am not entirely sure. Bruce Lee seemed a bit spiritual to me and he connected it with this martial arts. Any thoughts on that?

It depends the intention behind it. If it makes you a warrior  then it is beneficial to you. If it’s just being used so you can force and threaten people easily then you should reflect on why you’re doing it.

It's fine as long as you don't spar. You'd beat up most people even without sparring anyway

That ignores the positives though.

What about people who train martial arts to overcome ptsd so as to feel empowered.

That sounds pretty conscious to me.
