Basically all cults are conformity like Veganism, where there is a lot of pressure to be part of the club and have some self rightiousness

This video cherry picks the most ideological and mentally unstable people. For some veganism can work well. You need to know how to eat properly and suplement if needed. I no longer eat plant based but I did it for 3 years. This is how I looked after 3 years of veganism. I said veganism because I bought into all that conformity and ideology. The big problem was that I had to eat a looot of food and that pissed me off in the end. I was not even going to the gym, just running, swimming and parkour. The guy posting these is carnivore, which ironically is another cultish conformist shit that damages the body over time.

Your body has deposits that it can leech if you don't eat meat so that is why you were able to hold it out and then you finally wised up and listened to your body which is good.

A lot of ex-vegans get attacked by vegans which kind of proves my point. There is some group pressure on people. And some kind of black or white thinking.

Using Windows.

Counterexample: refusing to use Windows. So much of the FOSS/privacy activism is conformity. The subtle or sometimes not so libertarian ideologies they share, using LibreOffice and other inferior alternatives just cause they aren't made by Microsoft, rendering many websites half-functional due to overly aggressive JavaScript blocking, getting outraged at Google ToS changes without investigating whether it'll actually affect them, showing off neofetch screenshots...

Windows is still extremely customizable through registry tweaks. It's not quite kernel level control, but sufficient to make it highly personalized and largely devoid of bloat. Pair that with WSL and maybe a remote headless Linux server, and you got the best of every world.

Poor example because an OS's function is to be a universal unifying standard.

There is barely a choice about using it.

How many deliberately choose to use it, even though alternatives - sometimes better ones - exist for the average user, especially when the use case involves only basic tasks?

What percentage of the user base could do without it, yet install it either way?

This is fair, as far as the ideology goes.

It's not so much about refusing to use it, but about deliberately choosing an OS. Do people do that?

For a large percentage of the user base that doesn't need specialized software like the Adobe suite, Linux or Mac can be better options. There's a case to be made that those are also conformist, of course.

If you did serious gaming and serious work, Windows was the only choice for all the 90s, 00s, and 10s. And by then your entire software collection is Windows so switching is nearly impossible and a major pain in the ass.

I use Windows because I did lots of game development. Plus all your employers will expect you to know it.

Mastering Windows was a no-brainer. It was great until Microsoft turned to $hit. Win7 was basically perfect. Then they started adding a bunch of junk to it to milk the monetization.

3ds Max doesn't even work on Linux. Gross!

Photoshop doesn't work on Linux. Gross!

Half the stuff doesn't work on Linux and Apple can go suck a dick.

What makes me sad about people, especially in our “non-conformity is cool” era, is that everyone says they are nonconformists, that they are independent thinkers, open-minded, and original, but when they meet people who truly have different opinions from theirs, people who express original ideas or propose alternative views on life or existence, they bully the shit out of them.

What I have learned, unfortunately, is that most people want to be praised for being nonconformists without really carrying the real burden of nonconformity, which mostly includes tons of loneliness and misunderstanding.

I also don’t think that humans can fully escape conformity. We can be highly aware of it, of course, but the thing in our brain that makes us conformists is literally biological. We can observe this in ourselves and others with compassion and try to make the most conscious and best choice in the moment. There are advantages to conformity too, and it is not a sin to conform in some cases, as long as it comes from a place of awareness and not ignorance and the conformist action is not evil.

Sure don't. Most often it just comes preinstalled, like religion. There's lots of balanced options to be found, you could even dual boot. But it now becomes more of a matter of ignorance. Lots of people don't know what an OS even is, or that there exist any others besides Windows. There's still people in my university classes searching document text with their eyes and sharing 'screenshots' that are photos of their screen. I vaguely remember seeing a video where they switched some people's computers to Linux skinned as Windows and hardly anyone noticed the difference.

Naturally, conformity and ignorance are deeply intertwined, but one can be more pronounced in a given situation.

I've been watching these E Comm guys, lots of them from the Netherlands, they are very conformist.. I only watch to get some info on how they get so rich lol, but in essence they all do the samethings, once they get some cash flow and financial success they all move to Dubai, they all network with one another and talk about ad creatives, scaling, supply chains and eventually turning the ecomm business into a Brand, then they go on trips to either Ibiza, or Marabella, rent an expensive house and cars for a week or mth and then work work work, and for a break in their day they go for coffee, workout by the beach, talk shop together, then maybe on Friday or Saturday night party, its like they are all clones lol, but they are raking in the dough!!  They most all seem like nice guys for sure, I haven't seen any videos with Women doing this though which is strange!!

Well then you should discover Etsytube. When it comes to Etsy success, it's 90% women.

There's plenty of more mixed and mature content in the ecom space. Check out Chris Heckman.

That's fair. You initially said you would have chosen Linux if it weren't for those reasons though, if I recall correctly. :)

Complaining that Linux doesn’t run Photoshop is like complaining that a Zen temple doesn’t have slot machines.

It’s not “gross” — it’s a different game.

:D

Oh, memberships are generally conformity, by definition.

Linux can be cumbersome, but at least it forces you to learn how to code and get away from Microsoft.  But in many ways Linux is not ready for prime time.

You will notice as soon as you try to install some useful software and realize you can't. Which is the entire purpose of an OS. What use is an OS without software?

Linux is like going to the best nightclub the world but it's only you and 3 dudes holding your drinks.

Meanwhile, Windows is like going to a disgusting orgy, but at least you're getting laid.

Sir Lewis Hamilton, Knighted, 7 times Formula 1 World Champion (only tied with Michael Schumacher), the most race wins with 104.

Formula 1 is one of the most intensive sports out there. If veganism per definition is bad for the body Lewis should not have made it this far.

This will shut up the anti-vegans.

Watch how quickly people change the narrative from Vegan is unhealthy for the body to it's not doable or sustainable long term.

I agree it takes a lot of work to be a healthy vegan, depends on your body type and how much effort you can put in.

How is this for conformity....

How the black community is allowed to use the N.... word, while white people are not allowed and evenly publicly attacked for it if they do.

Not downplaying any history that comes with the word, it's just conformist thinking.
