Never forget the rules:

"Finding your reason can be so deceiving, a subliminal place.

I will not break, 'cause I've been riding the curves of these infinity words and so I'll be on my way. I will not stay.

And it goes On and On, On and On"

Most types of conformity that supports survival is worth maintaining like using cutlery, hygiene.

That seems to be the case, yes - at least when it comes to basic physical needs. Still, isn't the point of conformity to make survival easier, in a sense? Going to parties can be seen as a form of conformity, and it does support survival.

The bigger question is: Is there anything we do that doesn't ultimately serve that purpose? I find it hard to answer that with a 'yes'.

Hoop earrings on Caucasian women.

@Terell Kirby, you mean white or from the Caucasus?

I haven't noticed that in the Caucasus.

Holding a speech in public without looking weird  is already pure conformity? But Leo said it's not baked into the activity.  I need to orient myself to the public but I can do that in a conscious way. If I see through the conformity I am not trapped in Conformity.

This episode got me to realize that I have always hated conforming.

Ever since a kid, and especially teen, I always heavily avoided going to places where I had to conform, like family gatherings (in Asian culture, family gathering is with all the aunts, uncles and cousins too).

The more conformity was involved, the more repulsed I felt by it. I never knew what it was intellectually but intuitively I always felt it.

I teared up once or twice for being able to finally understand what I went through in my youth, while listening to the episode.

NO!

That is an internal need. Internal needs are not conformity.

Being horny and hungry is not confirmity. You generate that.

Is it really a need, though? Of course not. It's emotional dependence, a social nicety - one possibly rooted in a sense of worthlessness. The difference is that without food, you'll eventually die.

You conform to yourself. Everyone does. And everyone takes themselves to be the center of the universe.

It doesn't matter as long as that sense is generated by you and not coming from others.

You can want to be special for your own personal reasons. Whether those reasons are healthy or unhealthy is irrelevant. You can be non-conformistly dysfunctional.

@UnbornTao, comfortable and conformity are different things.

At the very least, they overlap. In any case, both serve the same purpose, albeit in different ways.

How much of one's search for comfort is based on conformity? Do you eat a particular snack when you're bored? Do you turn on the TV to check the news? Do you wear clothes purely for practical reasons, or do you avoid wearing certain items altogether? Where's the line between conformity and comfort?

Who else would generate it? Your preference for X thing is ultimately generated by you as well - along with many other things that could be considered conformity.

The social domain.

You are being too nondual here.

It's like I'm telling you a dog bit me, and you are saying, "No Leo, you bit yourself." Okay.
