If You Could Move To Anywhere In The USA, Where?

19 posts in this topic

I am auditing my life at this point. I live in Oklahoma and has been my hometown for my whole life. I am considering moving out of Oklahoma sometime within the next 2-3 years. I am considering living near the Coast because I value being in proximity to nature (oceans/mountains) and vibrant city life.

Where would you live in the USA if you could choose?

Alaska. Clean air, wild nature, high salaries, great natural expanses. I'm assuming beautiful cold snowy winters and friendly people. Great place for introverts I imagine not so sure about extroverts who need the city life and more people.

I want to move to San Diego within the next couple of years. I just visited a couple weeks ago, it's such a great city.

Good answers! What do you all think about Oregon, Washington or some of the east coast states? I want to be open to east coast and west coast.

I've heard that as a European, you could temporally move to the US for work and make a lot more more money than you would locally, pay less taxes, etc.

What are some recommended places for experiencing America, ignoring job opportunities for a bit?

NYC is probably my favorite city, but recently visited Seattle, WA and was blown away (nature, water, cuisine, arts, culture).

Only thing with Seattle is lots drug addicts and homeless roam the streets and shoot up drugs in public.

American cities all seems to look alike, with a few exceptions.

By default i would say Denver for mountains and beers lol.

In Europe the best cities i went were Strasbourg and Barcelona.

You'd probably really enjoy the PNW if you want mountains + city life.

Of all the places in the world to live, USA is definitely not one of them lmao

The key is not to think about states or cities, but to find specific neighborhoods. You need to look for awesome neighborhoods. State/city is not precise enough. What matters is the neighborhood where you will live, not the state or city as a whole, because you don't care about that.

For example, the LA metroplex has many shitty and many awesome places, and it's like that with most metroplexes.

There are all kinds of neighborhoods everywhere, and anyway it doesn't really matter because most of the time you don't particularly socialize with your neighbors you just set up shop wherever you have the possibility and you have the money for.

However depending on the state or city the environment is completely different, the cost of living is different, the pollution is different, people's political views are different, the laws are different, etc.

It is still one of the most prosperous countries today.

And it's the size of Europe so it doesn't really mean much.

The French bench press champion now lives in rural Texas where the population density is very low and where he does activities like hunting; it has nothing to do with New York.

Yeah! I vacationed there and it was awesome! Just gotta find a spot not centered in the busy city. I’m sure I’ll be able to find a mental health counseling job there.

True. And also a place to find my career as an Existential EMDR Therapist. I care deeply about being near coast and mountains (having an abundance of outdoor activities) along with a vibrant city life. Gotta try to find an apartment in a good area that’s not in the noisy downtown and is affordable. Where would you want to live?

NYC is good to visit, but the idea of living there seems like it would be a nightmare for me. It’s just too many people, overcrowded, and everywhere looks the same after a while. It’s just a concrete jungle.
