But see, this isn't needed. If your ego wasn't in it you could optimize your excercise for fun and enjoyment vs pure suffering.

You don't need to do crazy leg days. This is just some bad programming you got from these gym-rats. Your legs can be healthy and strong without that extreme workout.

Moderate exercise is enough. And then the key is to optimize for enjoyment. Playing a sport might be better than boring and painful lifting. Racket ball is a great workout and fun. That's intelligent vs crazy lifting.

I disagree with you Leo. We don't need to go to the gym specifically, but we should by all means have a strong fitness routine so that we have a strong body and stamina.

We live in a world that is getting more violent by the day and as the population increases the ammount of violence will increase, and we should at all times be in pristine physical condition to be able to defend ourselves in a physical combat situation.

Being overly focused on gym is frankly gay and stupid, but some physical activity daily is mandatory for both health and body strength.

Where I live if I hadn't been a 6'4" athletic male I'd get beaten out of my salary on the way home from work, or some thug woud have slapped my girlfriend on her ass while we are out on public.

Sometimes I feel thankful for being in a backward part of the world, I feel more in touch with reality, as opposed to you guys that live in 1st world countries.

@Carl-Richard

I get it.

I think we both have a lot of stuff to execute in real life - for me I look at it as 'what's measured makes progress'.

So I think naturally there is a huge crossover in balance in real world action married up with philosophy/spirituality. Which has lead to a lot of good SOP's to live by to be effective. And we are spitting these out all over the forum triggering each others antennas :P

One of my biggest projects in life is marrying up spirituality and philosophy to reality. Looking for the crossover. Seeking to validify spiritual insights through executing HARD in reality with physical feedback (materials and structures in construction). I see you doing this with the physical body and your work also!

Despite all the drama, Mr Mike's advice is really top notch.

As kids we use to exercise for the fun of it. Finding a way to enjoy it now is key. Even the health thing still feels like a 'should'. The more I just focus on the pure sensations in the body, the more enjoyable exercise becomes again. Like exercising without a future goal.

The ideal exercise is not gym, it is sport.

Badminton is the most fun exercise ever. And it works you like a sweaty mule.

Badminton is the most hardcore sport. People drop dead playing it.

Badminton makes tennis look gay.

How dare you say that about tennis lol, it will always be the king of racket sports. Even just playing something like soccer socially is also a good laugh.

Once you have a certain level of mastery in tennis, you can play all the other racket sports. The funny thing is, if you then go and play another racket sport for a while, it totally screws up ur tennis. But adjusting from tennis to squash for example is easy.

Gay means effeminate. This is a valid characterization of some things.

As Joe Rogan once said, "a grown man wearing pearls is gay."

And it is.

Even if that's how most people define it, it shouldn't be taken as an insult by default. Though, people often love to use that to insult others and activities because mostly of groupthink.

Though to me, gay strictly refers to homosexual men. It's less vague and confusing if we're also going to refer to a sexual orientation by that word. I mean, why not use the word "effeminate" instead of "gay"? I think it comes from people believing that homosexual men are effeminate by nature as if they're not "man" enough to be with a woman and some of them try to act like feminine women to be with them, which is very stupid.

Some weird definitions of gay floating here.

Gay actually originally meant 'happy', 'cheerful' or 'carefree'. This was always my understanding of the term.

It was then coined as a term for homosexual, but has been appropriated to a slur generally meaning 'uncool'.

Similar to the use of the word 'fa*****' as a slang term that originally meant 'a bundle of sticks bound together as fuel'.

I simply avoid using those terms as their meaning has been hijacked.

Too imprecise for me :)

Ah okay, didnt know that.

In a world with widely existing homophobia though, I think one has the responsibility to articulate himself in such a way to not be confused with it.
