I got a PhD for discovering that fat people run slower.

You can call me Dr Leo from now on.

I can't wait to get myself a PHD on something that's absolutely a joke. And still reap the survival and power benefits.

What assumptions, beliefs, or illusions am I under right now?

He hasn't addressed the situation. It will be interesting to see if he ever will. How does one even come back from that? He might just ignore the whole thing and hope that people forget over time somehow.

Showed up on my youtube also. This will make waves in the fitness realm, Coach Greg and the likes will use the opportunity to give themselves back authority.

Didnt really want this to be true as much of Dr.Mikes advice seemed very solid and probably is on its own but this eats a lot from his authority and his arrogance is literally on record.

True, that was like Dr. Mikes main appeal that he is the actual smart guy compared to the other wannabees.

Maybe there is an explanation for it though, or maybe he could show in other ways that he is in fact knowledgable. He could do a second phd if he wanted.

He’s still fun to watch and gets the facts right most of the time tho :D

He's still plenty smart.

Gym-rat smart.

It is hilarious that these gym-rat influencers all fight with each other. It's as stupid as the fights between Hasan and Destiny. These people are lost in their own little worlds, surviving unconsciously like zombie rats.

If you were following "Dr" Mike for his PhD, let's face it, you ain't that bright and his "PhD" is just right enough for you. xD

I listened to him for his wicked roasts and humor. He deserves a PhD just for that.

@Leo Gura He is a moron, he is a race realist and free market advocate, he loves his theories and AI, but he is so fucking dumb that he never bothered to ask ChatGPT to question his fantasies.

Apart from that, his gym content is good, but whenever someone overly bases their know-how on credentials, you know they are either a fool or a fraud.

Wow. This shows how easy it is to deceive and stand as an authority if you’re comfortable with lying and manipulating constantly + relatively competent in business. I also fell into the trap of trusting him too lightly, I must say.

He flexed his phd all the time. Turns out it’s nothing but a piece of garbage. He also said he has an IQ of 160+. He said his IQ is so high that the tests weren’t able to measure it. Also smells a bit stinky after having watched this video.

@Carl-Richard I’ve read a lot of posts from you about intelligence. Does Mike Israetel appear to you as somebody with a 160+ IQ?

They’re saying his name is Mr. Mike now xD

The comments under his newest video are hilarious:

“Skill 1+Skill 2+Skill 3=athletic performance is a genius equation, Mr. Mike. Academia will never forget your meaningful contribution to science, oh sorry, scence.”

“Average physique of a -1 year old at 3 meters height.”

“I’m trying to figure out if leaner and more muscular athletes can run faster and jump higher. Can anyone recommend a well researched paper?”

From my experience, his advice on hypertrophy is still top notch, but this backlash is well deserved.

Allegedly, the university uploaded an unfinished draft of his PhD, not the final version. That's the one Solomon reviewed.

Firstly, IQ is not all of intelligence, it's more like the speed and capacity of your "cognitive CPU" (mostly; you can throw some other concepts in there as well like pattern recognition). Secondly, yes. IQ doesn't mean you necessarily bullshit less, just faster and "more" (which adds up to clever). Top politicans tend to have pretty massive IQs (maybe Trump is an exception, and I've said before he is certainly above average, but I would caveat it's hard to know how much because his level of bullshitting is just too much so he comes off as more fluent than somebody who actually says substantive things).

@Carl-Richard He does seem to have a high IQ, but I feel like he would be motivated to engage more in academic work, original research and that sort of thing. I mean how can you be fine with such a sloppy, bad phd if you have a IQ of 160+. But maybe that’s just a biased view I have on what high IQ looks like. Could also be that he just wanted a PhD for the practical advantages sake and knew he’d pass with this.

I know that it was apparently an unfinished draft, but it’s unlikely to be true. If it was true, why wouldn’t you give public access to the proper, reviewed phd?

Gym.

His advice on gym.

The nonsense words these gym-rats invent to make themselves sound smart.

@Leo Gura No, haha. I meant precisely hypertrophy, because some people don’t like his overall training method.

But I agree with your claim otherwise.

Let me caveat that I haven't watched the review in full, but the guy who reviewed his PhD does not have a good non-ad hoc grasp of what PhD theses are like in general. The fact that he felt comfortable reviewing what to me is highly likely a draft (I haven't watched much of that video either, just a few seconds from some parts), as if it was a finished version, is indicative of that, but he is also of course just a university (graduate?) student.

Now that his formatting error and statistical slip-up arguments have most likely all collapsed, all that is left is whether or not the findings are novel (as far as I know about his review). And judging that requires in-depth knowledge of the literature. Scientific research is very autistic in what it considers novel: sometimes you only need to look at one slightly different variable than other papers to be considered novel. And PhD programs will push students to fill in those gaps if they exist. Very rarely do you get an Einstein level PhD thesis that revolutionizes the field, even in a sub-section of the field. And a PhD is also just the beginning step of your research career.

So I don't think the review says much about the value of his PhD now that it's highly likely he reviewed a draft.

I would say wait this one out until he actually responds publicly in more depth (which he actually seems to have done in the video I linked but which I again haven't watched much of :)).

Even if it was just a draft, the substance of the research is shit. It doesn't matter how well it is written or how accurate the math is, what matters is that nothing new was discovered or said. It is 200 pages of pointlessness written just so you could call yourself a doctor.

You can't draft your way out of that problem.

This shows the hollowness of sports science. They will write 200 pages of jargon just to tell you that eating donuts makes you fat. This is an aspect of the larger issue of the corruption of science and academia. Science and academia are used to bullshit. And scientists do not understand this problem deeply enough because they are in on the racket.
