Is there no point to meditate for 1h or less?

This seems to be Leo's opinion as of late. Meditation will not bring any results unless you do it in a hardcore way.

Is this referring to the enlightenment specifically or are there literally no benefits from meditating for a short time like this?

Like concentration abilities or some other mental benefits. Would there be any positive, long lasting changes to my mind that will lay the foundation for future spiritual work?

Or am I better of doing something else?

Maybe you could measure it by how difficult it is to you. If it’s easy to do that amount then maybe not so much benefit. If it’s difficult for you, and it gets easier with time, then it suggests that you overcame resistance in yourself and that is a win, and it will probably rewire your brain to be able to be more comfortable and in tune with that stillness. Also if you feel how it lessens anxiety, maybe mostly temporary, that’s a sign of change too. I don’t know the science behind it but it’s a guess. And in terms of mystical gain then I do believe the more hardcore is needed unless you’re spiritually gifted. But in terms of more practical concentration ability and ability to sit still in silence then yes a little probably helps

The tough pill to swallow is we have people in this world who dedicate their life to meditation and trip on psychedelics for 100 s times and still not enlightened LOLLLLLL what’s the hope for the rest of us. Even Leo has his self still intact

Understand this point about spiritual disciplines.

1. Horizontal development. Works on baseline consciousness, mindfulness and maintaining awareness throughout the day. 

2. Vertical development. Works on peak consciousness, huge intensity but short-lived, breakthroughs, insights and crazy Awakenings.

 

So, meditation done 1h a day would be developing the horizontal axis (super important), but you ain't gonna get the crazy metaphysical, consciousness, Infinity, God Awakenings that Actualized.org describes. For that, you'll need hardcore meditation retreats, to build up the peak over days and weeks with meditation.

You could say Leo is biased towards peak Awakenings and from that place said that everyday meditation will not yield peak results, which is true. But let's not forget Leo did everyday meditation for years and developed the horizontal axis as well.

It's the same with athletes, they train endurance and marathons, but also explosive sprints.

I have my everyday horizontal practices and then I take my psychedelic 🚀

@Davino But from what I have heard, sober mystical experiences can alter your baseline state of consciousness. Basically what happened to Frank Yang, he doesn't do a lot of meditation exercises anymore. So in this sense if you get this vertical peak it will effect your horizontel development as well.

@Jannes Yes, peak consciousness alters baseline consciousness, as a consciousness that has been so stretched cannot return to it's original contraction. In the same way, increasing baseline consciousness makes a nice solid foundation for the peak to land, as skyscrapers have always a nice underground base.

This is a more nuanced point that can be built upon my original answer. Thanks for bringing it up.

Meditation is, am I willing to discipline myself. And even a minute is ok.

During any given minute of meditation, i tell myself, this can be the precise time when God opts to come to fruition.

You can compare cultivation of discernment in awareness with cultivation in discernment over musical tones. You don't need to practice 24/7 to progress in your development of tone discernment. 20-30mins a day is enough. Same way if you pay 20-30 mins of concious attention to your psyche, eventually you'll develop a much deeper awareness of it and the structure of ego will begin to reveal itself layer by layer like seeing through the structure of musical tones. Eventually you can see through the layers of ego into the limitless space itself. Of course practicing more is bonus benefit. 

Simply listening to music everyday won't make you a musician. Simply living your life on automatic won't make you deeply self aware of your psyche and the forces that rule you. You need to do the exercises that cultivate that cultivate discernment. 20-30min a day is enough to progress. As the discernment increases, your transcendence of these unconscious influences takes place aswell. Mastery comes. Wisdom comes. Purification comes. Peace and equanimity comes. Behold - light. And with the light comes miracles and grace which is the most important part. Even one minute of grace is worth everything you have in life.

@Something Funny You can use Sadhana for many reasons, if a person is super unhealthy, physically and mentally, then going for the ultimate like what Leo is all about, mostly would not work for them, 1st they need basic help to get healthy and be at peace, then they can go for more.. So for these types 15-20 min of Sadhana/Mediation daily for months/years at a time can give them that, then when its in place they can go longer depending on their needs and wants..

All of Life and pursuits are this way, there are levels to everything, why think of God, when You are not even at Peace within Yourself, and up and down emotionally and not physically healthy, lol, it makes no sense... This is the problem with too much talk and writings on God and Spirituality, ppl think only of the goal, not willing to put in the work to understand or get there...

Meditation can have a variety of benefits all of which vary person to person.

The type of meditation and how you even view it also changes the outcomes.

Mediation can be calming, garner focus, reset bad self talk, be a form of contemplation, etc. 

It really, really depends on what you want, how it gets done, external factors, etc.

If you’ve been dancing around having the time to meditate for less than an hour than it would maybe be good for you to just try it already.

If you’ve done it before and wonder if it just requires more effort or time maybe there’s something else on your mind you should be doing instead.

If it is enlightenment you want, mediation can help— but only if you really, really don’t want to do it.

Nobody wakes themselves up from a dream they’re enjoying.

Enlightenment will come when you decide the dream is enough.
