How to stop being scared of death and suffering?

12 posts in this topic

I am scared of death. I believe in Oneness, and eternal reincarnation. I didn't have any awakening or experience of it but since I heard Leo talking about it  I feel it that it's more accurate than conventional atheist or theist popular beliefs.

Here is the problem. I am so attached to this life that I don't want to go to the next. I love this life, I love not being old, I love my parents (although I have huge problems with them as I have told before), I love my health.

Some months ago I felt dizzy and thought I was going to die (it was probably just a panic attack), and I thought how much I don't want to leave this life.I had years to feel that scared, I was extremely scared. Please don't take this question lightly, I feel extreme feelings of sadness when I think that I will leave this life. Or that I will suffer in my life, like we all do from time to time.

I feel I am not enjoying this life as much as I want and still I love this life so much, and I also would hate to lose everything I have. What should I do? Even if I live this life to the fullest, it will never be enough when it stops. Paradoxically, I feel like I want to stop living cause I feel scared that i will stop living, which is suffering.

I am so scared of death and suffering. What should I do? What would you do or actually do yourself? Any advice?

I’m not scared of death if death is eternal nothingness. But I do too believe in eternal reincarnation and oneness so that scares me, being trapped in eternity and experiencing horrible things. I’m also afraid of suffering, mainly physical suffering.

You could work on making your mind a safe space, having thoughts that support you rather than bring you down. It could look like having positive mantras for yourself, it could be visualizing positive things, about whatever. It could look like contemplating suffering and death so it turns into a thing that’s “interesting” , it could look like investigating your fears and contemplating how they work, so you gain a better understanding of them. So basically over time you build a better mindset, so the content of your mind works in your favor.

Thats on the mind level, but you could also go on a body level, utilizing deep breathing at random times in the day to calm your thoughts down when you’re stuck in your head.

Me too. I love life.

I feel passionate about life. I feel deeply. I cry heavily. I laugh loudly. I create obsessively. I love to love. I enjoy the fine, small things in life, like the sun on my face, the water on my skin, staring at birds and being in awe of life, feeling connected to a body, being surrounded by loved ones, sharing this one time unique experience.

Cynics say we don’t need to feel sorry for the dead because they rest in peace. Some even envy them.

But I don’t envy the dead.

Yet, there’s a curious part of me that wonders:

What if life continues after death, just in another form?

A form unimaginable to us now?

Maybe dying feels like dreaming at night.

Maybe it’s like an acid trip, surreal, infinite.

Maybe it’s emptiness…. Or nothingness that stretches forever.

Or maybe… it’s a galactic journey… a passage into another realm of being.

Maybe we reincarnate instantly without anyone asking our consent?

Maybe we’re gently greeted by spiritual guides,

who lovingly review our life……

to understand our spiritual growth

And maybe they decide where we go next.

I don’t know exactly what happens after death.

But I honor my fear of it, the fear of the unknown actually, because that fear is what motivates me to live more fully.

To love more fiercely.

To take care of myself and my loved ones more tenderly.

To be a better human being, in every small and sacred way. To be more conscious and responsible.

Maybe fear isn’t a problem, actually.

Maybe it’s not a bug in the system, it’s a feature.

But I can understand that this fear of suffering and death can be so crippling sometimes. Such a burden.

Its not scared of dying its scared of the logic of dying.

You are getting light headed then logicically concluding that you are dying its not logic before feeling.

If you do this enough you can pavlov dog yourself into inducing the state of lightheadedness via thought of death.

Dying will feel like fainting just practice being light headed.

You're in luck because biology has already solved this.

As you get older you will start to enjoy life less and less because your body just doesn't work the same anymore and you will no longer be high on all the feel-good natural brain chemistry that you currently enjoy and slowly your mind will change and your perspective will change and your experience of life will become duller and duller until you get to the point when you're 70 80 or 90 and you don't really want to live anymore.

So there's nothing to worry about.

I assume this makes you feel even worse but what I'm explaining is your perspective depends on the health of your body and I'll just naturally changes to something else.

Wanting to live or die just depends on whether you feel good or not right now in this moment.

If life and everything feels very dull then you'll naturally be okay with dying it's only because life is so vivid because you're young that you want to keep living.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Can try trauma release exercises and ifs therapy. Plus can also try to spot when you are engaging in black and white thinking.

Also routine can help but basics like diet, exercise, good sleep and journalling too imo.

Damn @Lila9 , that was beautiful.
You make life sound like a love letter.

Even when you make mistakes...

you are still completely loveable.

I would recommend you to stop watching Leo's videos and shift your attention elsewhere. You know, in my humble opinion. If spirituality isn't actually embodied, meaning you're focusing more on these sorts of contemplations, and various other forms of mental masturbation, instead of just consciously trying to be a good person (but not in a foolish way of course), then your spirituality doesn't really ammount to anything. Be good. Become usefull to society, your family, you know, to all conscious beings. You know, this might sound generic and basic as hell, but it's true. And then you also stop thinking about bullshit like this, which really leads you nowhere
