- Is it primarily Diet?

- Overload of information?

- No exercise?

- Social Media?

You could say a combination of things but what do you guys think are the few primary reasons why so many MF's these days need anti-depressants and shit?

  1. Social Media - shattered sense of identity, living "according to script" - as seen on social, trying to replicate people who themselves are fake & depressed.
  2. Easy childhood, lack of challenges, lack of pressure, too much shielding from overprotective parents ,
  3. Decline in stage blue values - discipline, loyalty, modesty & humbleness, generosity,  honour, truth, beauty, slow productivity
  4. Exaggerated sense of self-importance
  5. Ilusion of choice (especially relevant to dating online)
  6. Decline in parent-child time due to financial difficulties, parental careers and parents having kids in older age
  7. Poor diets, excessive screen time, sleep deficiency
  8. Excessive porn consumption
  9. Lack of purpose and passion
  10. Addiction to stimulation (caffeine, sugar, weed, obtaining stuff quickly and too easily )
  11. poor living situation in many cases due to financial reasons
  12. + maybe poor maternal health during pregnancy event

It's wrong, it's not true, my parents' generation is much more mentally ill than mine.

The aggressiveness dissipates over the generations until a particularly stressful generalized phenomenon relaunches it and relaunches by extension the cycle of generational transfer. (war and lack of water or food, general loneliness...)

Neurosis (what you probably mean here by "mental illness") is an illusory way of organizing the libido in a sense of pleasure in times of stress and libidinal dissatisfaction in general.

Dont forget environmental pollution that can heavily influence your system (chemicals, heavy metals, plastic, and toxins,....) and  being cut of from how reality works ( no advanced stuff, i mean things like how survival works, nature; taking things for granted, lacking the conciousness how things interplay and come to fruition) The last point is also effected by the things you already mentioned.  Being stuck in pardigm.

I think thats just one cause. This sounds like something Freud would say.

The meaning crisis, the death of God, the spiritual void, consumerism, hedonism, the list goes on...

Different factors but I think the top two are too much Social Media consumption, (not just the consumption, but how it's being consumed) and environmental toxins ingested in a variety of different ways. I would also state the lack of expanded consciousness as consciousness is expanding rapidly at a pace more so than ever before. The latter was just a hunch.

i dont know that its a matter of more ppl being depressed, but rather that more ppl exist w/ more ability to express theirselves/ & more freedom to do so. historically, you had to be 'tough'.. now its a matter of communicating, being honest with yourself, and being totally open, honest and transparent.

... And as far as things like; diet, exercise, social media, this that nd the other thing, are those really the primary factors around being depressed, or is it cause've an inability to integrate with these things, that are otherwise beneficial to those that have found a balanced lifestyle.

In my experience of depression, the last thing im worried about is my abundance of social media, nd so forth.

I see what you're saying, because they are all tools. It depends on how you use them. Never underestimate the power of the mind, tho, and the influence it has on your psyche and how unaware you are of the control buttons being pushed to operate it. If you are not fully conscious you can become subjected to it's conditioning, unaware it is happening.

It is subjective. Few primary reasons:

- Money
- Lack of understanding
- Intimate relationship
- No exercise
- Fail to meet standards/expectations and can't deal with it
- Not having a clear purpose
- Overwhelming
- Life problem in one area of our lives

I think not having a clear purpose stands out as the most common denominator.

@Michael569 Your list is cool but I think it is true for depression and anxiety disorders only. How about OCD, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia?

People who are prone to certain illnesses tend to get the illness through some kind of stressful influence (a.k.a. the diathesis-stress model of illness), e.g. traumatic events, poor socioeconomic situation, drugs, environmental toxins, etc. Doing things that are generally healthy will build resilience to that stress and decrease the likelihood of the illness developing or worsening.

@LSD-Rumi genetics in combination with environment will play an obvious role

This is theoretically true but practically impossible. You cannot avoid stressful events in life.
