A bit of junk is good for you change my mind

These past few years I had been very strict with eating clean. Like I would have no sugars, no junk food, no nothing. I was the cleanest man in my environment yet I would still not lose weight. I was stuck at around 18% bodyfat for so long. I didn’t understand why. I worked out 3-4 times a week, my routine was incredibly rigid. Greens and fruits were my best friends, yet somehow I was still fat.

Last month I had my first actual “cheatday” were I ate whatever I wanted after months of cutting. After having learnt about calories I went into a deficit for months and finally lost the fat part of the weight. You don’t understand how relieved I felt. Afterwards I went on vacation to Greece, Italy and Turkey. In all 3 places I listened to my desires and let loose. Sure, I felt guilty because I was so used to eating clean. But at the same time man, I hadn’t eaten ice cream in years. I haven’t had a singular pepsi for years. Chocolate, cheesy bread, pizza. You name it, I hadn’t touched it for so long. I felt such a relieve 

After my vacation I went back to eating clean and lost the little fat I gained during my holiday. I decided to go on a bulk but keep it clean. I still make oreo cheesecakes or biscoff cheesecakes, albeit a high protein version I found on Instagram. This satisfies all the cravings I have. I eat fruits, nuts, wholewheat bread, lean meats, seafood and too many greens lol. I now make all my own meals and order out only 1-2 times a week. After becoming a chef I don’t crave junk at all, though I already have plans for my next cheatday. 
 

Do you need junk? Is it good for you? After years of eating clean I honestly think it doesn’t matter that much. Like I felt great on a physical level. Mentally I had other problems, but clearly just “eating clean” didn’t solve them. Is it the end all be all? No I don’t think so. Cheating 1-2 times a week is not something to be ashamed about. Live life a little man. After I got into cooking I couldn’t wait to try genuine Italian pizza or Greek seafood because I wanted to know how the best of the best make their meals. Safe to say I tried it all and Italian ice cream and Greek waffles have become my all time favorite meals.

Lol it is a complex topic because the task is basically to discipline your will by not disciplining it. You want to eat healthy because you want to want to eat healthy and not because you have to. If you really hate healthy eating you are in a dilemma between being healthy and having constant cravings or being unhealthy but free from cravings. Both extremes are bad of course and you have to find a middle ground. 

Haha and success for you is to cut yourself off from any treats? In my mind you are the type of guy who wouldn’t give himself the time to gaze into the clouds in the sky because that is wasting your time to be successful. Are you really doing it for yourself?

That’s a good tip. For me they don’t work because my stomach goes crazy from that but in general finding healthy substitutes for junk is great.

I have/had strong ADS my whole life so a lot of attention and concentration problems. A healthy diet helped me just to a limited extend and I followed 100% clean eating for many years.

I just bought HMB-FA to get ripped as fuck again like I used to be when I was 18. 

I started learning tap-dancing, Taking singing classes; Sound engineering classes; Music theory/composition Classes; I am a black-belt in Karate/mma so since I've done 'Kata's' Since 5 years old, my dancing is naturally similar in nature to M.J. I'm taking formal dancing classes though so when I'm on stage I can entertain as well as during youtube videos; I take Piano Lessons; I train my Perfect-Pitch Daily; Finishing the code on my website; I fight mental health Daily(Adhd and Treatment resistant MDD AND social anxiety); I go out 3-4 days a week to Train my Social skills learned from Todd V. I'm also going back to College(I'm 22), to finish my final 2 years of undergrad. 
 

My point is that you should do these things out of love for it and not out of self hatred. Good for you if you also enjoy doing all of these things and don’t do it to compensate for a lack of self love for example.

You guys need to grow up, seriously.

Sugar alcohols are a perfect replacement. You don't have to be ridiculously healthy since that doens't exist. For me, eating plants gives me brainfog, same with eating eggs. What is considered healthy and unhealthy is highly-relative.

This sounds just like harassment. That dude ate clean for years and now cheats occasionally and feels way better now. He is still super healthy. Also you can’t substitute every junk.

I came out of a big rut of nihilism and have difficulties getting up again. Health is actually pretty good. I exercise regularly, have a healthy bf and eat mostly clean. I just started an acting class which supercharges my social skills and helps with self expression which is hard for me and chances are really good to find a gf there. You express yourself so freely that it is really easy to bond quick. Also I will soon start with psychological consultation for self worth issues etc. There are a lot of things I want to archieve but if I push myself to hard I won’t do anything at all. I made that experience many times. If you can push yourself through everything with pure willpower good for you chad. But consider the perspective that there are people who will just procrastinate if you they push themself to hard.

Let's try to be kinder to eachother. 

You don't know anything about other people and the environment they have grown up in. Not every issue can be attributed to laziness and you need to take some time to appreciate how lucky you were if you were born to a normal family with normal financial background (I assume in Northern America) and untraumatized parents compared to if you were born to a mediocre family in Eastern Europe or Balkan region, a family potentially traumatised since the WW2 generation with just shitload of demons, unresoved stuff, mental blocks and limiting beliefs. There are people on this forum from all sorts of countries, families and environments. 

This sort of stage orange David Goggin type of motivation is just not possible for everyone. Sometimes compassion is more helpful than pep talk.

Yesterday, I was watching a soccer game with some friends. It was in a bar/restaurant.

 

We're also friends with the guy that makes pizza there. At one moment, he recommended let's all get a brisket dish, cuz someone's order got messed up and he could get it then at half a price.

 

Now I'm a vegetarian currently and it was kind of a pressure sitting there being only one not to eat while they all share mutual pleasure and praise the food. 

 

But you know what, it lasted for 10-15 minutes until they were done. And some choices for our bodies and lifestyle do come at an expense of feeling weird and not part of a group in those moments.

 

But I was fine afterwards and we continued to have a good time.

 

The more it happens, the better I can handle it. The same is true with the sugar or whatever.

 

If you're avoiding sugars and you just feel better with no cravings, why would you succumb to the peer pressure. You can make fun of yourself and fuck around with it for 10 minutes, it's not a big deal. 

 

I think the group will be ok with it as long as you don't believe you're better than them in that moment.

 

But it's a broader issue of being worthy enough of holding your frame and standing what you're for instead of adapting to the status quo. 

 

Of course you wanna be a part of the group as much as possible, it makes sense and if you feel odd in that group frequently, you know what? 

 

You can find other people.

 

Similiar choices - similiar worldviews - similiar values and probably life path.

 

You will find your tribe and feel more belonging than adapting your life choices to accustom to the group..

I tried to eat as clean as possible: for a few months, I ate nothing but salads and nuts. I felt horrible, and I became neurotic. I had nightmares of eating something unclean. That's no way to live. Now I have a balanced diet, and I feel much healthier.

Yeah well extracting the pleasure part of eating and eating just to eat healthy might be even worse, I agree.
You can eat tasty without eating junk though.
