Confused about my spiral stage

16 posts in this topic

@Leo Gura I took a spiral dynamics test consistently and it was showing stage yellow and green most of time. I took another test it was showing stage orange. So which stage am I really at ?

U need to contemplate on sd naturally for 6 months or 1 year and u will know your stage without a test

SD is complex, it's not that you are definitely at one Stage. You can be on several stages depending on your lines of development. This is not exact sciences, it is more a tool to indicate where you are and what to do next. Watch all the Videos and take notes.. I watched all of them a couple of times which means alone for the video I spend hundreds of hours listening to leo.. not to mention reading books, contemplating it and try to put it into action

Some things to consider:

- We have all some orange parts as this is the 'normal' Stage for western civilization
- higher Stages equals NOT to more healthiness, happiness or even success
- it is likely that you have something to learn from the lesser stages, if you are roughly at green then most likely from red, Yellow is more special because it tries to learn from all stages... not a thing that is necessarily high valued in everyday life

My own view is that Spiral Dynamics is much better used as a sociological model for looking at the interplay of how value systems arise, interact, and come in to conflict with one another.

While it can be made applicable for individuals by giving a rough approximation of what sort of value system(s) they subscribe to, I would argue that this isn't the model's main strength.

Just knowing that two individuals have a center of gravity at Blue for instance doesn't tell you a whole lot about them, since Spiral Dynamics merges several different lines of development (cognitive, ethical, spiritual, etc) down to a single axis as part of its reduction base. At best it can tell you what aspects of the collective value systems that are out there that a person has internalized, but it doesn't really tell you the depth or complexity of that individual's understanding within that paradigm.

For instance, Marcus Aurelius and George W. Bush are both roughly at Blue, but are worlds apart as far as the depth and complexity of thier understanding of Reality

If you're looking for a personal development model, you'd probably be better off using something like Suzanne Cook Greuter's Stages of Ego Development model. Or if you're looking for a model with a large body of emperical validation, then the Big Five Personality Traits model.

Read up on each stage and see how many aspects of it that you clearly understand and have no questions about. Maybe sit down and write a mini-essay about each stage and see which one is the most detailed.

It actually takes months to accurately pin yourself down. And you still have to study it even if you have already read something / watched a few videos.

It takes years to begin to fully understand it. You can pin yourself down accurately after months.

That would be to put the cart before the horse.

I don't think this is any reliable bearing on any potential sd stage you nay or may not be at.

Agreeing with the poster saying sd is better for sociology ajd that it won't give much detail or complexity about your individual self.

It's a bit crude imo compared to other models.

My opinion largely on people who are asking what stage they are in is that, firstly, if they're on this forum asking others what stage they think they're in, they ain't stage yellow lol.  Look at some truly embodied stage yellow people (jordan hall, daniel schmachtenberger, jamie wheal, nora bateson, etc.) and listen to them speak, look at what they've accomplished, read their resumes (e.g. jordan hall grduated from harvard law, went on to cofound Divx, then partnered with daniel schmachtemberger to create Neurohacker Collective where they created multiple supplement formulas for cognitive performance... and daniel schmachtenberger leading the consilience project where they brougbt together some f the brightest minds in the world to provide an alternative news and sensemaking platform.. or jamie wheal who wrote two books and co founded the Flow Genome project and works with elite atheleted as well as ceos and the navy seals to increase their optimal performance... phew lol), feel their embodiment and sophistication and overall development.  Then compare yourself to them...  are you at that level?

I could be totally misunderstanding what sd yellow meand... but to me anyways... it seems these people are fully embodying yellow beyond simply thinking systemic thoughts as another program they think.

I don't want you to feel bad about that... obviously you're perfect and beautiful exactly as you are.  Truly.

Ima say, if we're going to talk sd and put you on a stage, I'd guess you're most likely hovering around stage blue-orange.

@Ya know My values are :

-Focus on my life instead of other's life

-Focus on my life purpose

-Socialise with people and stop talking with people who hurt me and do wrong to me

-Be honest with myself and everyone else ( if I donot like something I must stand against it )( I must stop pretending)

- Make my life revolve around the thing I love most (Science especially Biological aspect of Science )

Regularly I meditate, contemplate exercise . I have written these values on a paper and try to follow everyday by reading it.

@Rishabh R I'd peg you at Orange, with elements of yellow because of your awareness of spiral dynamics. Honesty and social activism is a green trait.
