I voted for the Green Party

22 posts in this topic

help pave the way for 3rd party candidates in the future. If you are not in a swing state, vote 3rd party. Let the establishment see the uptick in voting 3rd party. Let them know the people are not going to continue to sell out and vote for the lesser of two evils. Restore confidence in voting 3rd party. Let’s dissolve the assumption that voting 3rd party is like a waste of vote.

also, if you know Christians that vote for Trump because at least he’s pro life then encourage them to vote for Brian Carrol of the American Solidarity party. He runs on catholic values.

What do you assume they will do if more people vote third party?

How do you convince those Christians that they're not throwing away their votes?

People have been singing this song for decades. It hasn't worked. What has worked is infiltrating the two party system. Trump with Republicans. Bernie with Democrats. The problem is not enough Americans currently support the Green Party (or Bernie's) positions. If Bernie can't even win, how do you expect the Green Party to? Especially when they make such cringe-worthy low quality ads as the one above ;)

The Republican Party is united behind Trump. If we divide up the left, we're stuck with Trump. How is that helping anyone?

The fact that everyone capitulates so easily and doesn't hold their ground for who they truly want to vote for is EXACTLY  why there is a limited two party system.

God North Americans are dumb.

If you want to support third parties, vote in candidates who are willing to support electoral reforms such as Ranked Choice voting. As it stands now, there's not even a remotely level playing field for third parties and independents.

This ^ ^ ^.   If you want to see a Green party policy platform enacted (as I do), your best bet is to support progressive Democrats that will help move the Democratic party's policy platform left. Also be appreciative of the fact that a Democratic Socialist and a candidate supporting Universal Basic Income have not only moved from the fringes towards the mainstream, but are having an active influence on the policy platform for the Democratic Party.

Not everybody wants the Green Party. If they did Bernie would have won in a landslide. Also, your comment calling an entire continent of people dumb is very silly.

I assume they will be more mindful of who they pick to win. It’s obvious to me that they chose Hilary and Biden before the Primaries even started in both 2016 and 2020. People don’t have a real say.

I’m a caregiver for someone with locked in syndrome. He’s a hardcore Catholic Republican. When he saw that EWTN featured Brian Carroll he said he wanted to vote for him instead of Trump. There are Christians that vote for Trump because at least he is against abortion and death penalty. Well this guy is also against abortion and death penalty and he’s more professional compared to Trump.

@Lindsay The problem is the first past the post voting system means that a vote for a third party is functionally a vote for your opponent.

The FPPT system sucks but it’s what you have to work under right now, and the only way to change it is to vote for the higher conscious party out of the two majors (so in this case Dems) and then push them to implement ranked choice voting. Otherwise you’re letting the corporatocracy, conservative wing nuts and fascists consolidate more power.

Leo recently released a video about conspiracy theories.

I think you should watch it. It will help you understand how you got to this position.

Just please excuse his mean comment in the beginning.

You didn't answer my question.

How would you convince a republican that knows more about politics and that understands how useful voting for a third party is.

I watched his conspiracy video. It was a lot of talk, over generalizations, and accusing people of having low consciousness if they are open minded enough to consider the possibility of the elite exploiting children. I commented about our grandfather being a mason and how he did strange rituals and they wore robes at his funeral. All I’m saying is that I’m open minded enough to consider Qanan. I don’t buy into Trump being a behind the scenes savior. I just don’t doubt the possibility of  the elite class taking advantage of their wealth and power to hide their exploitation.

Also I don’t believe you can convince a republican to vote 3rd party. I said encourage fundamental Christians that settled for Trump. I feel very misunderstood here. This forum is so judgmental.

I apologize for assuming you meant Republicans.

I did it because Christians today are associated with a Republican party.

Maybe if I show you how silly your theory is.

You say that they choose Biden and Hillary and that our votes don't matter.

But then you say that votes for a third party matter.

You see? If they can manipulate most of the votes manipulating a small minority of them would be a peace of cake.

Notice how the fear created this theory by filling in the missing holes.

There probably was some level of voter manipulation in the past or even now but that doesn't prove that your theory. That is just fear thinking.

For an example: if you were a fearful king and you saw a person that in the past robbed a store and served their time. Then you assumed that if they did it before they must have done it again and if they ever get a chance they will do it again so they must be stopped. So you put them in the cage for the rest of their life or you kill them to protect your people.

Can you see how silly this would be?

Most of the theories have some truth to them, but we have to be careful not to let fear create something else out of that truth.

I see your point. I agree that my thinking is based on fear. It’s not far fetched to think people in power will use their power to secure their power. Power and wealth go hand and hand. They use money to influence election turnouts. They buy politicians. Candidates are bought and influenced. Chris Hedges even said that the establishment didn’t care if Bernie Sanders won the primary, they were going to side with Hilary anyway. I never even heard of Chris Hedges until Leo introduced us to him. When I saw him speak at the people’s convention online I was on board to support the movement of voting 3rd party. I linked that video that inspired me multiple times in previous posts. But here it is again...

Is voting 3rd party really equal to low consciousness? I was inspired to not sell out on my values. If each vMeme serves a purpose, maybe my shades of green serves the necessary purpose of protesting?

The bigger the percentage increase of voting third party the more confident people will be to vote 3rd party in 2024 or 2028. Just let it increase each election until it’s no longer considered a waste of a vote by voting 3rd party. Ranked choice voting is a better plan but that can be achieved on state level apparently.

@Lindsay I feel your pain, I felt the same way in 2016.

Chris Hedges is presenting Democrats as a little bit better than Republicans.

In reality there is a huge difference.

Joe Biden will invest 2 trillion dollars in green energy while Trump doesn't believe in climate change.

Joe will increase taxes on the rich Trump will decrease them.

Joe will give more people health care Trump wants to take it away.

Trump passed laws that seperate kids from their parents and put them in cages.

There is a lot more but you should get the point.

And let's take health care for an example. You need to understand that that change isn't just on the paper, thousands of people will suffer needlessly if Trump gets elected.

I would say it's high emotional and moral development but low cognitive development.

Ideally you protest on the streets, but when it's time to vote you vote for the right person.

The problem is that if people more green people start voting third party it will make Republicans stronger a lot sooner than a third party will be viable.

That will ironically slow down everything the green party wants to accomplish.

@Lindsay People have been using the same argument you have as above for decades now, and it hasn't worked. If there was ever a year where a third party could have taken off, it was last cycle with Trump and Clinton, two of the least popular candidates to ever run for US office. And yet third parties barely made a dent. If you want to create effective change, I suggest you try a different strategy.
