Point Out My Bias

Bias is inherent in perspective-taking, in having an opinion, in the very act of perception.

I dont think thats the case, its just that perspective is a open system so its very difficult to navigate epistemicly.

In chess it takes years of training to be epistemicly accurate. That training only works because the chess board is a feed back loop of trail and error until the epistemology for chess is mastered. Bais = loss in chess, so its grinded out of you.

In the real world there is no chess board to give feed back, a thought has no board to bounce off of, instead you have to audit yourself. That self audit is were all error happends. Or find people more conscious then you to train off of.

Leo is one of the best epistemic chess boards you can train off of.

This makes identifying his bais very hard because you have to be in range of his epistemic rating.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Epistemic bias - confirmation bias and self-sealing beliefs or circular epistemology

  • Agreement means the teaching is correct
  • Disagreement means the person is trapped in ego, bias or conventional/conformist thinking
  • Failure to understand means the person lacks the requisite consciousness
  • Criticism means the critic is stuck in survival/defending their survival interests

This is endemic to the entire forum.

This produces downstream effects when discussing loaded topics. Making them more explosive, adversarial and degrading truth seeking.

But still, I need to work on that because sometimes it leads to falseness.

Wow, now I got curious of this pattern, how it could lead to falseness?

I don't think identifying bias should be done with the goal of elimination.

The realistic goal is to understand how it influences us and prevent it from distorting our judgments & discernment.

Truth is unbiased so the more biased you’re the further you are from the Truth

My question is how do you know that Leo is the best epistemic chess board if you have to audit your thoughts yourself, isn't that a bias? The chess example makes sense but the claim that Leo is the best epistemic chess board is hard to verify

@Leo Gura

You often criticize science and Christianity without acknowledging their benefits. I think acknowledging each of their relative strengths would be more holistic and actually make those criticisms sharper. For example:

  • What are the strengths of science relative to animism/voodoo/religion when it comes to sense-making?
  • What did monotheism get right that earlier religions didn't?

While I'm not claiming his board is truth, only that practicing against his epistemic chessboard is a good board to practice on.

It also depends on your level. If you're at a 1000 rating, then Leo's chessboard is as good as truth, But at the higher levels, 2000, 2500, 3000 rating, that's when his chessboard won't be as beneficial for your training. And you need to rely on yourself a lot more.

Ideally, your own self-audit is epistemically perfect. But that's never going to happen because people are at a certain level of epistemic development. It tends to be very low and it's easy to deceive yourself because you're high.

Right that's like a self restraint tactic. When you know you can't help having a bias or an emotional skew on something, then you can adjust the "i dont know" nob a few notches higher for that topic.

Feel into the unknown more. Instead of that feeling of conviction on a stronger built connection.

Knowing tends to boil down to a feeling you have where it feels strongly that it is true.

Chess will punish that feeling over and over and over again Until you only feel it When your intuition is aligned with truth.

As someone who follows Leo very closely it’s interesting to see people saying things Leo has addressed in the past, or in his videos.
