I Can't Express Myself Properly—I Can't Articulate My Ideas

14 posts in this topic

Hello.

I see people on TV everywhere. They seem highly developed intellectually. They appear intellectually bright.

They can express themselves concisely. You can easily understand what they said.

Why can't I do the same? Why can't I express myself freely?

Why can they do it so easily while I cannot?

I feel like my mind is murky.

What would solve this issue for me? What do I need to do to achieve that level of articulating understanding?

Thanks, guys. Thanks in advance.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

How much have you practiced?

People on TV have tons of practice. You can't compare yourself to them.

Do you have brain fog? That might need a physiological solution.

I have a similar problem. Rich inner world, yet unable to express myself well in conversations with people. Get very easily drained, don't want to engage people in pointless conversations. Also because I don't interact with others often my conversational skills have probably deeply atrophied. The solution? Do very social stuff and expose myself to years of uncomfortable social situations that'll help develop my prefrontal cortex such as work in sales. It will be deeply highly uncomfortable just because I am very introverted by nature.

These people are trained for their job, which is to be on TV. There is also bias because TV people are cherry picked to appear on there, so you only get the most articulate, most intellectual, most attractive, most funny etc.

I am trying my best, but I get the sense that I'm doing something wrong because I didn't focus on building my vocabulary. I'm only forcing myself to come up with ideas without memorizing or reading too much. Perhaps stretching my memory muscles would be a benefit? Or something essential? When it comes to writing, it's easier for me to put words on paper—I don't feel pressured. On the other hand, when it comes to speaking in front of a camera, there's huge pressure, and it's different from writing. There's no time to be eloquent since I can make mistakes. And I am making mistakes. Writing allows me to pause, but in front of the camera, I cannot pause that much.

@eTorro Dude, all you need is just practice talking to a camera. It takes a lot of practice. Mistakes are okay. Just do it with mistakes. You will improve quickly.

Don't ask how. Just talk.

I get you! I have a similar issue, especially when I interact with people. I get so uncomfortable that they get so cringe around me. I love talking to people, but that uncomfortableness makes them uneasy around me. That's because my childhood was harsh. Alcoholic father, no money, and no parenting. I do not blame my parents—they didn't know any better. I have many traumas that I am doing my best to address, but it takes decades. Or at least a decade of work. So what? I am doing it.

@Leo Gura, okay. I am doing it. Thanks. No more questions; just action.

I appreciate it! ^_^

If you can make a video about articulating understanding, do it. It would be helpful. Even if it's 30 minutes in length. Or one hour. All the tips and tricks, vocabulary, striving, etc.—it would hel, man.

Sorry to always do what I do but it's autism again😅

Autistic people take longer to process. Talking requires a lot of quick decisions. This is hard for someone who is autistic since they need to contemplate everything deeply.

This doesn't mean practice doesn't help but knowing that helps with the confusion.

It's not like people who can't talk well necessarily don't have a deep inner word. Often it's actually the opposite. A lot of neurotyicals have loose imprecise symbols floating in their head and they make loose connections very fast intuitively. That's why they are so good at speaking. But when you debate them or ask what they mean precisely, they hit a wall pretty fast because they don't have the depth of understanding an autistic person has.

Toastmasters. Book club. Walking group.

If there isn't one start one.

Better all 3.

Why do you need him to do it? Start a youtube channel today. Get google Gemini to help you pick 100 video topics. You will speak to the camera on each of these topics for 60 seconds to 3 minutes. Post 1 Youtube short of you doing this daily. After the end of the 3 months and 10 days your speaking ability will be much better and you will understand structure in speech and rhetoric. You will as well develop an understanding of audience and what they respond to.

Start this today. Post your shorts here and in the journal section and people will give you feedback.

Or procrastinate it, the power is always up to you my friend.

I totally get that. I’m also trying to get back into my YouTube channel, and even after hundreds of hours of work it still feels challenging sometimes. But I do think I’ve improved.

One thing that slows me down is brain fog and not always knowing when I’ll feel the most focused and alert. So I’m trying to organize my time better and use the windows when my mind feels sharp to film and create.

Good luck!

Awesome, looking forward to seeing your videos!

This is some of my early content from like 11 years ago when I used to be a gamer and stream League of Legends. I'm not good at streaming since I'm an INTP it's exhausting for me but now I film more business vlog videos and influencer events.
