How to be enlightened when sick

11 posts in this topic

I am feeling extremely down right now. Everything looks depressing, my taste buds dont function fully etc. Its just cold and tonsil so I will prolly be fine after some days. The point is; I can be pretty happy at other times but when my physical body gives up its a lot more difficult. does that mean the level of consiousness depends on the body? how to be awakened in a sick body?? Souldnt I be able to experience god as it is the absolute?

All experience good or bad is godly. But when I'm sick god can go do one.

Be one with your sickness. What do animals do when sick? They fast, rest, keep to themselves, don't interact too much.

That's how you assist and return to peace but understanding what sickness is and surrendering to it.

I am but a reflection... a mirror... of you... of me... in a cosmic dance ~ of a unified mystery...

I'll be Honest this is one of my @Sticking points.

I have a really hard time keeping myself in a state of Joy, Love and Peace when the physical health fails. Whether it be a temporary viral infection, or an acute pain or injury. The mind and body are not only connected, they function as one single unit while under ordinary human state of consciousness.

It is often for me an experience of great suffering to endure sickness. It feels like it may never end. Inevitably it will though; whether that means the conquering of it by the immune system, or the death of the body. It will end. And you will be free from it. There is always a lesson to be learned, no matter the experience.

If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. If I should live for other days, I pray the Lord to guide my ways.

There is a reason the saying is:

"run from it like the plague"

And not:

"run from it like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow"

There is no escape from suffering.

Your happiness is 100% dependent on good health.

Sick or healthy hasn't anything to do with me. Let body do what a body does. It will die in a matter of time. I will be okay however. Find and stay with the changeless within.

@Stick From studying Shinzen young's teachings (meditation teacher), he would argue that Suffering = Pain x resistance.

Pain is a fact of life. It can be emotional, i.e. grief. It can be physical, i.e. hurting wrist.

However, he would argue that are degree of resistance to experience can be lessened. And in that lessening of resistance to experience our suffering decreases.

So, in your case, he would argue that you suffer because of the following. 1) Painful thoughts/ feelings/ body sensations that result from, for example, loss of taste. 2) Resistance to said painful experiences.

He has a method called: See-Hear-Feel meditation, which he sees as possible way to lessen resistance to experience.

I don't have direct experience of this working that much for me. So, really just passing along a theory.

There is no failure, only feedback

One small step at a time. No one climbs a mountain in one go.

So you think Buddha is bogus on this? Or do you mean the probability of a modern human transcending suffering is basically impossible?
