Politics, corporations and society wants adult children because they are the perfect customer and are no danger for society. They are impulsive, emotional, want instant gratification and don't think long-term. They have poor reasoning skills also. 

The perfect customer is an infantil adult. And not only Disney is exploiting that right now. Idiocracy becomes real.

Modern society basically denies adulthood to millions of people. Considering how expensive it is to own a home or how insecure and shitty most jobs are, it’s no surprise people cling to the time of their lives when the world felt more stable and manageable.

Add on top of that governments that don’t give a shit about their own people, geopolitical chaos, failure to meet the climate crisis etc and it’s incredibly understandable why so many people “check out” of being a responsible, future-oriented adult in favour of just relieving their childhood. If WW3 could start tomorrow and we all blow up in nuclear fire, whats the point of caring about bills or mortgages or responsibility? It’s a psychological pressure tank with basically no social payoff.

I’m not saying it’s good to be a Disney adult or whatever, just that I don’t blame people who end up becoming one. We live in a needlessly cruel and ignorant world.

Governments must shut down all internet use on weekends at least (sedentary uses first perhaps)

The thing is we created this world. Seriously, whats the point of modern society? What’s the end goal of all of our efforts? What do corporations, politicians, public figures, billionaires etc all practically fall over themselves day after day to announce?

New technology. New apps. New AI. New forms of home delivery, new drones, “smart” assistants, new video games, new CGI technologies, etc. Billions of work hours every day are putting into making life more digital, convenient, online and “user friendly” as possible.

A grown 40 year old man waking up on a Saturday and deciding to play Helldivers for 12 hours inst some “failure of personal character”, it’s literally the exact, explicit and socially-rewarded GOAL of 50 years of collective human political, technological and economic effort.

I’m dead serious when I ask - what the fuck else are people supposed to do? The entire modern economy is, again, LITERALLY built off online consumption. Are we meant to go to church? Who gives a shit about church? Are we meant to go for a hike? Sure, but even then, our entire cultural-media-advertising sphere emphasises taking photos of that hike to upload to Instagram. Get another job? A side hustle? The only reason people work these days is to pay for more video games and Disneyland vacations.

I find it sick and twisted that we condemn ourselves for living the sort of life WE FUCKING CREATED. 
 

If we were supposed to care more about exercise, community events, art, spirituality, etc we would BUILD THAT WORLD INSTEAD. But that’s not profitable. Absolutely no one wants to go to some lame-ass Shakespeare in the Park production when Netflix is right there.

We have turned ourselves into the ultimate consumer, the ultimate product, the ultimate always-online AI-generated ersatz of a real human being. This was always the plan. This was always the end goal. You’re a goddamn fool for thinking life matters.

The thing is, we don’t even do that. If we truly believed in some sort of French existentialism “pursuit of one’s own meaning”, we would encourage people to read books, seek out new experiences, analyse their thoughts, etc, but again, little of that is profitable. Who the fuck wants to sit down and wonder why they’re on this planet when you can just numb your brain with endless culture war brainrot, Fortnite Mobile and a cheap hit of booze or porn? 
 

Again, our entire existence is built around mindless consumption. We fundamentally don’t care about anything. We just sort of exist. Life isn’t real. We’re all zombies walking through the meaning apocalypse.

 

EDIT: Just to be clear, I’m not above this. My day to day life is pretty dull and I legit spend a lot of time just playing Skyrim or watching random videos on YouTube. I haven’t found a way out of this mess better than anyone else, but god I wish more people realised we were in a mess in the first place. It’s pretty goddamn exhausting most days.

Well you see, people are always going to worship something. Be it mindless consumerism, or any other -ism, to keep it short and simple. Perhaps the expression of that worship may be different and may differentiate in intensity from individual to individual - like for example, going to the church to pray probably shows more commitment than going to a mall and spending money for things you don't really need - but the point is you always put SOME values on the pedestal in your life, be it comfort, vanity (going to the gym to build easthetic physique), etc. Those values are often programmed into you by the society you are living in.

I think the solution could be inventing some sort of religion based around a societal-scale worship of higher metaphysical values such as beauty. Goodness. Modesty. Etc. We could find a way to define these values as objectively as possible and then start acting in life to embody them as much as possible; for example, building high effort, beautifull architecture again would be a good start. Just look at European medieval cathedrals, those buildings were built for one purphose only, and that was to glorify God as much as possible. And they were in no hurry to see it finished, they made sure it looked as magnificient as possible. Even common folk back then was contributing the little money they had to see this building get finished, because it was common back then to be that religious.

Right now we are operating on a very shallow, material values and hence we are in the situation we are in.

This will be solved by web 3. Entertainment IPs that are collectively owned and not just used for pure entertainment.
