Is Conscious Selling Possible?

20 posts in this topic

Hey. Recently I`ve been hopping from one sales job to another. But I can`t stand convincing somebody by using sleezy and manipulative sales tactics to sell to someone.

So is it really possible to work at sales job and be selling consciously? Is there anyone who works at sales?

Appreciate your answers!

I think in life, if you find yourself in a desperate situation economically, for example you’re a student who applies to jobs but you get none except sales or something that you feel isn’t truly aligned with your values, then it’s okay to take such a job and understand that it’s a part of your path to something greater, it’s not your ultimate destination. For example I’ve worked at fast food restaurant, I don’t think it’s particularly unethical because it’s a personal choice to consume such food,  but it still isn’t something I’d wanna work with long term because I find it doesn’t provide any value in society.

Sales has a similarity, sure most of it isn’t high conscious but it still is a personal choice to buy the stuff, even if they’re being manipulated.

As I said you can see it as temporary stepping stone towards something greater in your path.

I think it’s possible to do conscious sales, but then it requires that the product/service you’re selling is high conscious (let’s say something like a good supplement). And also that the method you’re using to sell is authentic, and that is something you can notice if you’re doing yourself, in particular if you’re not personally attached to making sales so you’re less likely to be deceived by your own bias.

Also another factor is in the production process of the product. A product can be “high conscious” and of genuine value but be produced in a way that harms the planet and exploits poor people. So then I cannot rank it as much high conscious anymore. So it’s different factor.

Bottom line i think it’s okay to play into the system to a degree as long as you are working towards something higher conscious long term (if that’s your inclination, it’s ok to be normie too)

I don’t think it’s unethical but I just have a hard time believing someone can feel genuinely good doing it.

Dude this isn’t a Catholic Church where you have to come in and check if you are sinning or not. You got to live, survive and pay your bills. The fact you are sensitive enough to consider if you will be hurting anyone or yourself is half the battle. Do things right and follow your heart. You live life right regardless the circumstances you’re in. Good luck in your work.

Life is a game of survival .. among other things.

Embrace this aspect of being human by separating your survival from spiritual pursuits.

There is value to both- relatively speaking.

It will depend on the specific job and what you are expected to sell.

Many sales jobs are chill and others are not. High pressure sales would be a problem.

Is a Tesla dealership doing high pressure sales? No.

When I bought my house, the sales lady was very sweet, helpful, and I never felt pressured to buy it. She was not pushing houses on people, she was just there to answer questions and handle the details.

Desperate sorts of sales are the problem, where you got a quota to meet or you are fired.

How much does it pay? I've had an opportunity like that once but it didn't pay enough for me to become a sellout

Doesn`t every salesman have to meet his KPI/quota? Otherwise what`s the point of a low performing salesman?

And I don`t sell drugs or something like that. Usually it`s education, programming courses (even though they can be badly arranged), banking services.

Sell only what you yourself are

namely only goods and services you have purchased

and you can uniquely and powerfully vouch for.

In short I owe this product what stands before you today.

All selling is selling who one is.

I really believe that if you are enlightened, you will only do easy things. If something is difficult, it requires a lot of motivation, which usually comes from ego. I highly doubt somebody who is aware of the illusory nature of reality is going to be motivated enough to do something ambitious.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

Sounds like you are working low-value sales jobs.   Either that or you simply don't understand the value in the products or services you have been selling.

There are many sales positions where you can sell products and services that legitimately benefit the customers.   These types of sales positions can be both personally and financially rewarding.

I have been selling for decades and have zero issues asking for a sale because I know the products and services I sell truly benefit customers and improve their lives.

If you like interacting with people to help them solve problems, then you should look for a sales position with a company that sells something you really believe in, that also doesn't demand you use high-pressure tactics.    If you are selling an excellent product or service for an excellent company, you don't need to force or trick anybody into buying anything.   You just help them.

Many people avoid the sales profession because they have become jaded after being exposed to sleazy, high-pressure sales tactics.   But, you don't have to be sleazy or unethically manipulative if you are selling valuable products and services to customers who need what you are selling.

Thank you very much! I`ve been selling courses on programming and other courses how to pass national exams in my country, but the content of these courses was crappy. Maybe that`s why I didn`t excel at sales.
