The non-aggression principle.

This!!!!!!

Some situations just need more aggression, and some people. Also, leaders, deeply passionate people, highly ambitious are more aggressive in nature. It’s a feature, not a bug.

Buying a Rolex or Omega Seamaster.

It is conformity because these luxury watches are “jewelry for men”. The watch does nothing but tell time and you are paying thousands of dollars for the same quality and functionality as a $200 watch. Also, Garmin watches have more functionality and health metrics they would actually be worth spending $1000 on.

“Our most valuable resource is not time, but rather it is consciousness itself. Consciousness is the basis for everything, and without it, there could be no time and no resource possible. It is only through consciousness and its cultivation that one’s passions, one’s focus, one’s curiosity, one’s time, and one’s capacity to love can be actualized and lived to the fullest.” - r0ckyreed

I know I have no say in this, but we should propose a new rule for this thread to explain your reasoning on why something is deemed conformity.

If I just say “short shorts” that gives you nothing on why it is conformity. I could wear short shorts for non-conformist reasons “because it was the only pair of shorts that weren’t in the laundry.” Vs “I want to fit in with the female fashion industry.” Short shorts on men are somehow now deemed wrong but are acceptable for women to wear.

Maybe this new standard will helps us to keep this thread more organized.

Am I asking for conformity here?? ;)
Oh, the irony! 😆

@r0ckyreed I think you are going against conformity by suggesting this ;)

Our current way of stating what year it is.

Because we have this silly standard of basing it relative to an event we're not even sure really happened.

As if Jesus gets crucified on the cross and people are suddenly like "Alright, we can start calling this year 0 A.D. and then start counting up instead of this silly B.C. business where we've been counting the years backwards this whole time.

Watching the solar eclipse.

You are not in the universe.

The universe is not inside you.

You are the universe.

I agree with you generally, but what if you buy the watch because you want to appear high-status and wealthy, even though you don’t personally value it at all? Are you a conformist or a master social engineer?
Or is wanting to appear high-status itself conformity?

Even in this kind of example, it’s not so obvious that it’s conformity. Identifying conformity is a messy business.

totally agree, i do think it has an enormous impact on our psyche because we are seeing it everyday.

------

communal superstitions ( not talking about superstition present in religion )

black cats, unlucky number 13, Chinese numerology  representing fortune 8888, 88, 44 representing death.

Even though you don't believe in any this, you must take this into consideration if you are living in a community that believes in this stuff

Not really because this factors into direct experience.  A 20 year old does not know what it is like to be 30, etc.

sorry, I don't catch what you're trying to say.

what i'm trying to say is...
all the age-related convention and pressure that we are subjected to...
you 1, you should be walking by now.
you're 20, you should be in university by now.
what age should we should marry? (you're 24, you should be married by now)
age of death... he's so young, he shouldn't have died... (reality dictates our age of death, not culture)
what age should be stop exercising? (dude, you 26, you too old to be doing this sport or that exercise, I've heard people say)
what age should you be wealthy? ( dude, you're 30, you should have this amount of money, this house, this car)
you're 70, you should be a grandparent by now, you should stop working.
you're 110, why are you not dead?....

I do think age plays a great factor in not only our personal decision making, but government decision making, regarding medicines to give,
if someone's 90, should we proceed with this expensive medical procedure?

In a conversation, when someone mentions xyz and then the other person says “That’s crazy, I was just thinking about xyz” or “I have a friend who did xyz thing.”

It’s fake and just trying to appeal to the other person’s ego.
