Let’s go!!!!!!! We are gonna deconstruct Sherlock!!

“Our most valuable resource is not time, but rather it is consciousness itself. Consciousness is the basis for everything, and without it, there could be no time and no resource possible. It is only through consciousness and its cultivation that one’s passions, one’s focus, one’s curiosity, one’s time, and one’s capacity to love can be actualized and lived to the fullest.” - r0ckyreed

Really appreciate your work Leo! It has been enlightening

I feel like maybe I missed something with this specific video, or maybe I should just wait for parts 2 and 3. I think I’ve watched a lot of previous videos from you where you’ve shared these same insights before (like the non-duality or decounstructing science videos).  Was this one more intended for scientists who haven't seen actualized.org videos before?

Here are my takeaways, for reference:

1. Most systems humans developed (e.g. IQ tests, Science), have essentially become people’s new conformity, and they never question these systems. They take them for granted.

2. We should question our assumptions and constantly contemplate the fundamentals of our thought process and the world, not just contemplate things within our world view.

3. Furthermore, contemplation itself, while following a framework of rationality, is not sufficient to truly reach Truth. We need to be willing to step outside our worldview (rationality), open ourselves to more experiences, try psychedelics, talk to people we disagree with, read lots of books, and then make our own conclusions.

4. Everything is relative, and we should pursue Truth and Englitenment to understand we are manifesting all of this in our head

The intro quote; my first name is also Robert, cool. Also David's website is " in the cells of an eggplant"?

@ZeldaStar There is much additional depth and insight, but if you're just casual about it then it can all seem the same.

It is hard to communicate the depth to you guys without it sounding repetitive. Depth is not about more new ideas, it is about deepening existing ideas.

To appreciate the depth of this issue you have to read all of MetaRationality.com

I've only just watched the first 15 mins as I must force myself to go back and finish the truth one to not leave these all partially watched but I like it so far.

I'm an INTP with a very strong logical mind and I run into the end of logic consistently. Like it's hard to logic your way out of my own existence being a figment of my own imagination. Excited to watch the rest of the episode and the upcoming ones. Any books in particular that touch on this topic  or other sources you recommend apart from the meta rationality website?

Just finished watching. It’s definitely an advanced episode that connects lots of other topics such as Sameness vs Difference, Deconstructing Science Series, What is Truth, How Authority Works, etc.

I’ve had a lot of the insights Leo mentioned about so-called formalism. It’s really obvious that people in academia are completely wrapped up in this rules-based , community-driven way of thinking— not just in STEM, but in the humanities too. And these are the people in society supposedly doing the most advanced thinking!

But I have a couple issues with how Leo presents things. He is talking about his own version of rationalism that’s different from the standard definition. Rationalism in philosophy is supposed to mean the view that reason is the best way to get to truth as opposed to empiricism or other alternatives. In the video, Leo is talking about a certain culture of formalism and  rigor that’s connected to scientism and materialism. That’s not the same as rationalism, so it’s kind of strange that Leo had to reinterpret a word to get his point across.

So far, the question of whether reason is the best way to truth is still left open. Obviously formal reasoning has limits, but the way the mind goes about determining what’s true— what I would call reason generally— is a different matter. Of course it’s going to involve raising conscious, but there has to be some interpretation of whats happening in consciousness, otherwise you just have raw experience and not understanding. Hopefully Leo will address this in parts 2 and 3.

That is more than enough.

It will take you weeks to digest MetaRationality.com

That's right, I am not talking about the standard philosophical definition of rationalism vs empiricism. We are talking about something more important than that. Which in itself shows you how relative definitions are. Some definitions are not as useful as others for our purposes. We use fuzzy intelligence to select the better defintions for our needs, which in this case is the goal of jail-breaking the mind.

The average viewtime for one of your videos is 20 minutes??? Are people insane? There is literally not one video of Leo which I started and I haven't finished. All the videos I begun to watch I watched them until I finished them. I am doing this since 2014. Furthermore I am going back and rewatching a lot of past videos. Right now I was rewatching and taking notes on the video The social Matrix. I literally watched Leo's last 2 videos about the truth being the highest value and the Halloween video and I literally complained in my mind that these videos were too short and there could have been said a lot more on these videos. All of that while pausing every 30 seconds and taking notes on my commonplace book on these videos. People don't have any kind of appreciation for the litteral gold they are being served up on a silver platter.

I feel so sad to learn that people only watch 20 minutes of Leo's work. So so sad. Without Leo's work I'd be a far right nazi, as all my peers and colleagues are. This goes to show how life transforming and mind evolving this work is. No wonder why people become nazis, is because they don't give a damn about this kind of inner work Leo is presenting us with.

But what about the way in which you use your mind to interpret consciousness and awakenings? That’s what I call reason. Sure, it’s not formal, but there is some sort of logic going on. Your proofs of god video used logic too. So there must be something to reason/logic other than the delusions of rationalists.

Interesting that you mentioned people like Curt Jaimungal and Alex O'Connor. I like both of them, but I always felt exactly the same as you: that they are way too rational, almost like they’re playing the role of the “rational guy.” I used to think I only felt that way because I’m more of an irrational person, and that I had to somehow catch up to their rationality.

But when I think about my brother—who is far more rational than they are—I realize that wasn’t the issue. I was never able to pinpoint why their version of rationality bothered me. Even though I genuinely try to be rational myself, and I have to be rational in my job or I’d lose it, something about it always felt off.

You’re the first person who articulated this so clearly that it feels like you put my own thoughts into words.

Thanks for your work
