What are some things we do today that future generations will see as "savage"?

It's kind of mind-bending to think about how fast human norms evolve.

 

Slavery, arranged marriages, bloodletting, dying at 40, even marrying one's own sibling - all of these were completely normal just a few hundred years ago.

 

So what do you think will shock people a few centuries from now when they look back at us?

 

Maybe they'll say things like:

 

- Wait, people used to keep animals in prisons? (Zoos)

 

- Why did people in the 21st century spend so much money on clothes?

 

- I can't believe psychedelics were illegal back then.

 

- Education made no sense - why did they teach people WHAT to think instead of HOW to think?

What else?

Showing empathy,
Voting,
Art,
Roaming free,
Marriage,
Analog tech.

• Burning up the environment to live in it. Treating it as just there
• The complete removal of ourselves from the natural environment that 'we are'. That we live in, require for all our needs,  are birthed from and die in.
   
• Blowing each other up over KM's of land to put an artificial border on a map, which is less than a grain of sand in the infinity of the cosmos. Being stuck on one planet more generally.
   
• Factory Farming to Fast Food, the unnecessary slaughter and engineering of sub-animals for the human fast food chains.
   
• Death from common things such as cancer.
   
• Alterated states of consciousness to avoid reality, and the addiction to things like avoidance.
• The inability to recognise that you are always talking and interacting with yourself. Narcissism, Sociopathic behavior etc.
   
• The creation and introduction into the biosphere of substances we cannot break down: Plastic.
   
• What will be then, archaic genetic meddling, or the creation of diseases to cure ahead of time. Not realising that in infinity there will always be more diseases or illness, creation of new ones to cure is futile. Whereas we understand so little about DNA, which is infinity in a spiral, that altering it is like a kid with a nuclear weapon in his hands.
   
• The necessity to surveil someone 24/7 for those in power to be comfortable. The surveillance state more broadly..
   
• Using words to harm another, such as through the news or social media to a mass audience.
• Bigotry and Racism.
   
• Death or imprisonment for currency in any form.
   
• Treating people like robots so much that we engineer jobs that can be done better by robots, so we build robots to do them.

People working in factories, mines, and other dangerous professions.

Essentially extreme capitalism and anything that puts life at risk.

In a couple hundred years (maybe even less) it will be ridiculous to have humans doing most things. We are entering the machine age - AGI and robotics are poised for their own industrial revolution.

That's not true. It is poison if you smoke like a dickhead non stop. If you smoke more than half a pack a day, yea it is poison. If you smoke a few cigarettes a day and you are active physically, the poison is far too little to do damage on you. I smoke a cigarette every other day, and I am the happiest in the world when I do that. I never feel more happy than when I smoke a cigarette at twilight
