Millionaire at 23 - AMA

27 posts in this topic

I came on this forum in 2018 as a 16 year old. I was broke, sleeping on a mattress on the floor with my siblings (family of 7) in Bulgaria.

I am now a millionaire in NYC, helping my parents and paying my sister's education. And this ain't even the fucking start.

I have been on and off the forum over the years, but I always circle back to Leo's work. All of it is real.

Take this shit serious. Drop the bullshit.

What skills did you learn to achieve this? Programming? Marketing and sales? Musical instruments and singing? Foreign languages?

Tangibly, what practical skills did you learn to achieve this? And, what is your educational background?

أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن ليو رسول الله

Translation: I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and Leo [Gura] is the messenger of Allah.

What's your story?

Bro tell us the story

When I was age 16 my father was being extorted by the mafia. Made me realize I had to move to have any opportunity and the US is where that was.

At that I point wasn’t even sure if I was going to college, but after looking at the richest people on earth - Gates, Zuckerberg (Harvard), Larry Page, Sergey Brin (Stanford), Musk (UPenn) - I realized uni was my way.

Locked in, did a lot of shit the next 3 years. Got into Harvard. There was a lot of stuff that happened while there.

Sophomore year I created a novel lattice-based multi-key cryptographic algorithm for MFA. Met a lot of people through accelerators that have since then become billionaires (my age), which solidified my direction. I personally made $50k+ but had to shut it down after receiving a notice from the immigration office and go back to BG.

That same time pressure from the mafia got worse. I lost people. Shit was a gut punch so for the next two years I was working like a psycho. 11h of average work a day. Graduated with honors in math and stats with half a phd worth of grad classes.

All the research I did was very strategic with respect to AI. Now I am onto my second company, which the source of my income and wealth.

How much luck is needed to become a millionaire?

Leo said somewhere that statistics work when you look out at the broader population, but you are not a statistic. Take ownership and accountability of your situation, no matter how bad.

I have psychotic levels of ambition, so I have never had a question in my mind it would happen. Family situation simply added fire.

Very much so. Passed on opportunities to stay aligned with my values. Those are for a separate thread.

This is the personal development forum. If you feel a way about my post perhaps you are not taking this work seriously enough.

My best decision was to take the risks. Shit got real fucking gritty but we still here.

Worst was that I let my naivety about being an immigrant take over first 2 years of college.

I also didn’t make it on the first one. I am pulling this stat out of thin air but I heard somewhere that 90% of companies fail but 80% of those that keep swinging eventually make it.
