Greed

Human will for freedom

But then egoic traps.

Struggles for freedom remind me of the inner struggle against oppressive egoic structures and limiting beliefs. Which are also quite complicated and convoluted.

Sad. Especially for good people trying to make an honest living in there. Like that one guy pushing a cartwheel packed with loafs of bread, like what type of living is more honest than that? And he has to worry about some dipshits shooting him down

Noticed that all these dipshits are blasting rap music in their cars as well, at least we can see the kind of degeneracy this music tends to celebrate

Great documentary showing what life is like in a lawless country. Spoiler alert, utter shit. Puts my cushy life into perspective. If you live in a first world country you don't have problems, you have challenges (unless you have a serious mental illness or disability or something).

It's like Cyberpunk, but just the crime.

I had this feeling after watching old footage on WW2, The Holocaust, and modern prison systems in places like Brazil, Philippines and El Salvador.

We have such a fucking cushy privileged life. It makes my problems feel literally embarrassing, the things my mind is bitching about...

Currently it would be closer to anarchy because there is no central power that monopolizes violence and adjudicates law, although non-ideologically. People are just surviving in a state without a functioning government.

Haitian collapse can be tied to a certain degree to corruption and bad economic policy. I don't think that counts as libertarianism necessarily.

Watched the DW doc… unbelievably brutal and hard to live in Haiti. Perhaps the worst country to live in.

Of course these people were exploited, but Dessaline committed ethnic cleansing.

In fact, he actually became dictator and "emperor" of Haiti, and favored his friends in obtaining properties from former colonists.

But why didn't the French extend their revolutionariy principles of 'Liberty, equality and fraternity' to the black people, emancipating them after the revolution.

This would have meant that  Haiti would have continued to be an overseas French territory, and goodwill created would mean that the war and massacres would not have happened.

Haitian rebellion had begun before french revolution.

Then after napoleon took power, he tried to restablish slavery so it triggered Dessaline's putch.

It's been only from 1870 that France is definitively a republic.

@Ajay0 You forget to precise that the debt was primarily motivated by the fact that the "Haitian Revolution" was led by a crazed black supremacist who instructed his loyalists to exterminate all white French people, including children, or to rape and forcefully marry women.

Not entirely accurate, the Haitian were not completely racist. They spared some Poles that Napoleon sent whom defected and joined the Haitians and they received the title honorary blacks for their service in helping to liberate Haiti.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Haitians
