Oblivion Remastered Just Released

Despite all my gripes with Oblivion being a Morrowind fan boi, the artistic vision on display here from the devs is refreshing to see, especially in contrast to modern game development.

No. Oblivion is creatively uninteresting. The world is lame. It's like going to a great restaurant and being served a loaf of white bread.

With mods Morrwind has good graphics.

Morrowind is the best RPG ever made.

Every Besthada game since has been worse. No Besthesda game will ever match Morrowind's greatness. The creative genius that made Morrowind has all left Bethesda. Now Bethesda is just a zombie company.

yeah, I tried to play when you said it was one the best games ever made but I could not get over the graphics. So I gave up after an hour, I have never tried mods on anything, but I will give it a shot!

Skywind is a mod re-creating Morrowind, though it hasn't been released yet. Hopefully soon.

Morrowind is hardcore and old school. If you need a modern action-oriented cinematic game then it's not for you.

Morrowind is like a musty old wine.

PC is the only platform.

Platform was the wrong word. What I meant was, from what I was reading, it seemed like there were different engines/tools like Vanilla or OpenMW, that certain additions had to be maintained across.

I have no idea what I am talking about.

I just know it seemed like a lot of work, over the course of decades.

Morrowind is honestly a chore to play. I like how self-driven it is but it is generally really outdated. Most NPCs are walking tourist brochures and the combat is really bad. If you are not using exploits somehow, your kind of losing. And it is so slow.

I wonder how much of this ragging on Oblivion is just because of aesthetics. Oblivion looks very generic because it was made of the LOTR craze at the time. Like, the world building is still amazing and the quests are way better though less esoteric. I find that boomer gamers tend to prefer older games because of their aesthetics primarily but they never admit that openly. Like with Minecraft boomers preferring old Minecraft but all their reasons why you can do better in modern Minecraft.

I gave it a quick test, and you're right, it is quite... rough, at least on the technical aspect. Mods are pretty much a prerequisite imo; I ended up installing a hundred or so. I'll get back to the game soon.

Imagine how your current favorite game would be received 25 years from now. Nostalgia plays an important role, too.

The slowness is what makes it good. It is deep. You can play and savor it. Combat is more strategy than action, which is better because it require preparing resources rather than just swinging a sword. And it requires growing your stats.

No. Oblivion was bad even when it came out. It's not just aesthetics, Oblivion was horribly balanced and there was no joy playing it after Morrowind. All the depth and beauty is gone.

I was very dissapointed in Oblivion back when it came out. I expected it to be like Morrowind, but they watered everything down to the point of generic action RPG.

I never understood the appeal or critical opinion of Skyrim either. Boring, poorly made.

However, I was young enough to think Oblivion was cool. I also didn't own it so when I played it it was cool.

Well I don’t like wine. But I like rpgs😁 have you played baldur’s gate 3 or dragon age, what’s your opinion them? I have baldurs gate 3 on Xbox but have not started for full yet, finding the turn based systems unusual, so a friend recommended me, just doing the story mode.

I don't like either of those franchises.

Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 are outstanding. Two of the best RPGs ever.

@Leo Gura Your Russian heritage might just be showing. East-Europeans love their janky RPGS.

...but did they keep the goofy-ass dialogue and camera panning?
