@Apparition of Jack Now that you've revived this thread, I want to post the LeftValues Quiz.

On both the politiscales and leftvalues, I answered very socialist on economic questions. On both quizzes, answering strongly agree to questions asking if the means of production should be public, supporting some form of central planning, and denouncing social-democrats, people who want a Scandinavian style of economics, as traitors to the left.

I don't actually subscribe to "Trotskyism".

Was fun test schloop that I haven't subjected myself in awhile. Not like all the questions were great, but when are they ever with these tests!

Looking at the design of these flags does feel like an atrocity against my eyes though.

I've analysed 25 of the responses to the survey in this thread. Here are the findings.

1 - The top 3 values

The most commonly picked values are Humanity (72%), Socialism (64%), and Equality (56%).

PS_1.png

2 - The most common combination

The most common combination is Equality - Humanity - Socialism (8/25).

3 - Constructivism vs. Essentialism

In these scales, 1 represents the value to the left (in this case, Constructivism), 2 represents slight inclination to the left, 3, means balanced/neutral, 4 means slightly to the right (in this case, Essentialism), and 5 very strong to the value on the right.

PS_2.png

Nothing to conclude here. The responses are quite varied.

4 - Rehabilitative Justice vs. Punitive Justice

PS_3.png

Again, some people lean heavily toward rehabilitation, but still varied responses.

5 - Progressive vs. Conservative

This is where it gets interesting.

PS_4.png

People lean quite heavily toward progressivism. I myself scored high in this axis.

6 - Internationalism vs. Nationalism

PS_5.png

As expected, progressivism correlates with internationalism.

7 - Communism vs. Capitalism

PS_6.png

Also as expected, progressivism correlates with redistribution of wealth (left wing economic policies). Although there is a decent number of nuanced people, right in the middle of the spectrum. Little support for right wing economics.

8 - Regulation vs. Laissez-faire

PS_7.png

This is my favorite axis. Almost no one falls for the anarcho capitalism BS lol. I mean, one person does. But still, we need to be careful, because excessive economic regulation can indeed harm the market. So I suspect this is again left wing naivety when it comes to economics.

9 - Ecology vs. Production

PS_8.png

Not sure what to make of this. Disperse responses once again, I suppose.

10 - Revolution vs. Reform

PS_9.png

Finally, we have revolution vs reform. I am glad to see most people aren't typical radical leftists who think protesting and destroying the government will somehow resolve the issues of the world. A strong inclination toward reform as an answer. Which does somewhat contradict the leftist stereotype.

Interesting stuff.

@Husseinisdoingfine

I used all the answers in this thread, for the survey PoliticsScales (I didn't use the Left Wing values one or whatever).

I created a form with Google Forms. And I filled the answers to the form according to the responses in this thread. It generated these graphs and statistics at the end.

I don't think it's left-wing naïveté when it comes to the wide-spread preference for regulation over Laissez-faire economics. I see it as more of a contextual preference and a recognition for a need that is missing in the current economic system, where the private sector has WAYYYY more power than the government.

There are no check and balances between those two systems of power, because the government is basically and extension of the private sector and doesn't challenge it often enough.

So, this preference for more government regulation is very much happening in a context where the best economic situation you can possibly have is where the government and private sector check and balance one another... but that is not happening.

And so, the preference for more regulation (within the context of the current Capitalist system) is just an awareness of what is needed to balance things out.
