TikTok is crack

67 posts in this topic

For me my crack pipe is YouTube. So I've recently sworn myself off of YouTube to take back control of my life. One interesting Insight is that there's a lot of tough moments in life that would be suppressed with processing it by watching YouTube video.

Whether it be a tough existential moment of contemplating my death, or contemplating the death of other people around me that time is ticking and I won't have the people around me forever. Or I could just be me avoiding boredom from the fact that my life is actually quite boring and I've been distracting myself from that. Whereas if I can feel the pain long enough I will be motivated to do something about it.

I've also noticed that for me at least, doing anything that is training myself towords a life purpose, it's actually always difficult and takes actual work and will never be easier than this moment right now to start working on it. I always subconsciously avoid practicing when I need to practice such as writing and studying because in reality it's actually quite boring stuff to discipline yourself to do on your own.

Biggest insight for me is that life is actually more boring than you care to admit. You really have to work hard on building a beautiful life if you want a life that is not boring.

I forgive my past, I release the future, and I honor how I feel in the present.

I wish IG had a setting to turn off all female models and celebrities. That is the trashiest of content. That would improve IG by 50% at least.

Omg agree!

Porn isn't the problem, it's attention-whoring Instagram models luring in simps by jiggling their ass. You don't have to search for it to get flooded with that kind of content and it's bad for both young men and women.

Porn is better for you than these attention-whoring IG models. Porn serves a necessary function. These models are just wasting your time and distracting you from working on your day.

Agree, tbh this only happens to me on ig. I can understand if it happens to others on TikTok and it’s harder to avoid it.

I deleted TikTok years ago, before it got a good hold on my brain. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Saying that, I do indulge in a few Youtube Shorts in the evening sometimes. Which is basically the same thing, but they do feel slightly healthier, less toxic, somehow.

But I block YT shorts and any short form content on my computer which also helps a lot.

I also play a game on my device that functions better at upgrading if you have a fb account.

If you want to try a lot of games, I would suggest buying a Google Play Pass subscription. It's around 3–4 dollars/month. You get premium games (not all) for free. The other premium games are sometimes worth buying.

No, but thanks for the suggestion. I'm not that much into playing all sorts of games. At the moment i'm only playing one main game and it's enough. It's a girly game of decorating your own islands with beautifications within the game, playing competitions with other players across the globe and lots of goodies and side games within the game all for free unless you make purchases which isn't necessary to fully play the game; just takes longer to complete sets. It's fun and I've made purchases before which is through Google pay, but its pay as you go and no subs.

Any other game I would play would be with my nerdy self, scrabble, bookworm, word twist and games like that which are tons online and for free. Love bookworm. I even used to compete online in scrabble tournaments. Hehe.

What kind of games you like?

Adventure, story-driven, abstract, creative, action, platformer, puzzle, board and card.

Recently, I've been more into horror and creepy games. The more creepy, the better. 😁

Finally mustered the courage to delete that hell bent app. It sucked so much time and energy out of me. The app is such a drain and you get nothing back from it.💨

My algorithm gives me mostly sexy girls doing sexy dances and some weird animal videos, squishing pimples, accidents and weird phenomena. And from time to time, like 5% of the time some educational content. 🇨🇳

In China children don’t get this kind of content. What do you guys get? I asked some guys and they get similar horny content. It is the same garbage. 🗑️

If you can use TikTok only for 5 minutes per day it is ok. For me that is not possible when I’m stressed. Yesterday I watched it for one hours in total.  💀

I've seen some spiritual teachings on there, i love those "which cozy bedroom are you choosing to stay in?" vids for unwinding, and also i like to observe those theist vs athiest debate live streams on there. Overall its addictive and not productive at all, but i cant say i hate it.

I love some aspects of tiktok but I do have a hard time finding a balance in it. I tend to redownload it, use it for a few days, spend one night feeling low and being on it for more than an hour and then deleting again. But the delete and re open cycle itself is tiresome and makes me feel like it isn't worth it. I feel like I'm always playing with fire there, not wanting to get to the point of addiction to the app.

I use it to watch cute animal videos that I wouldn't otherwise find on youtube, humorous, interesting, creative videos, particular people talking about particular things like Hank Green, visuals like fashion and room tours. Many of the clips I watch are really good and I love, but because of how many things there are to see, the candy-like feel and nature of it quickly becomes disorienting and makes real life feel dulled out, with little time on the app. I also run into the darker-less inspiring part of my psyche when I'm feeling mentally low, the algorithm catches on very quickly to that and I'm annoyed when I find myself watching drama-movie clips. Or I'll hesitate just a few seconds too long on a war clip, or a pimple popping clip, and my algorithm will be stubborn on showing me more of those when I actively think 'noo I don't want to see these'

The closest replacement that I've found to tiktok is watching 'daily dose of internet' on youtube. It isn't specifically to my taste but is the closest thing!

Overall, when I think of children using the app, I feel afraid for them and what it'll do to their minds

What scares me is how efficiently these apps derail you. Just a simple thing like looking at my work calendar could lead to a 25 minute doom scroll giggling at Asian reels like an imbecil. Then i "wake up" and it's like i was in a state of trance completely forgetting what I was about to do.

I'd consider myself fairly disciplined with decent ability to focus but my ability to pay sustained attention has definitely been impacted, same as everyone else's i guess.

Social media have completely abandoned the original purpose where FB has become a cult of fake accounts, IG an amusement park for the lizard brain and YouTube still sort of sitting on the edge deciding what it wants to become, their reels aren't all that bad and o consistently get reminded good quality content all the time.

You don't need to download it. You can just use the web app on your phone or pc.

Our brain is not made for Tiktok or porn. One has to know one's limitations as a human. We are still very primitive.

The mammal dopamine system has an appetite similar to the appetite of your tongue. TikTok and porn is just fastfood. It spikes the dopamine but you don't really get any substantial.

Similar to smoking. It doesn't have any nutritions. It is just the nicotine that gives the dopamine spike that makes you hooked. Tiktok is just like a very good hooker for short term pleasure and long term misery.

I meditated on this actually. Try feeling your body after using TikTok or porn. It makes you empty because it robs you of your soul (intuition). It dulls it. It is a battle between your instinct (survival and reproduction, and coping with stress) versus your intuition (the silent wise voice connected to your higher self).

Yeah I've noticed that. I'd even draw a direct correlation between inner feeling of anxiety, inadequacy and misery proportionally growing with each minute I spend on that platform

I've never quite understood the hate tiktok and shortform content in general gets because I simply cannot relate to having reduced attention spans or difficulty focusing or even it taking too much time away from work. I'd say tiktok has been a net positive actually.

But that's just me and I felt like sharing it because I hear too much criticism from people who say the opposite.

Infinite "unexcludedness". I will patent that word I just made up. Please don't copy. Copyright infringement. I will sue.😂

It's hard for people to see beyond their own conditioned responses. E.g every this and every that, once a particular thing or circumstances happened to them. Now it's tik tok that's the problem due to their own personal negative experience on it. Not realizing others might be finding it extremely useful for their own purposes.

It's a platform. I'm sure if I searched how to make bread on there, something will pop up.
