Are there any benefits to watching gore videos?

I remember watching them back and my anxiety towards life problems going away.

I used to watch them because I thought it teached me about some of life's darker undertones, like I was learning how messed up it can be. Now I realize I was just watching it for the entertainment value, I dont know if it has any real positive effects but its probably more harm than good so its better to avoid them.

Yes,it teaches you about survival of the fittest, and that you cant trust anyone (real world).

It either makes you more sadistic,or you were sadistic back then to begin with.

I used to do that,it was great and it would raise my heartbeat, never felt more alive than back then. And it might teach you that people are just a lifeless bag of meat anyway (solipsism) so it might actually help o udnerstand that you are all alone. But i stopped, and actually, when you close the tab of sites,at least for me,i would have a huge urge to wach it again,as if it was some form of drug that i kept injecting and did not want to stop it.

No, there is no point to watching them, which does not mean you shouldn't watch them. Whether you watch them or not, it's not up to you. It's up to the universe. Without the universe there in the first place, there wouldn't be any gore videos.

@Hojo Do you think it's good use for whenever you have anxiety, you watch gore videos to replace the anxiety with some other anxiety

I think what you are referring to is more of an adrenaline rush, but you also get anxiety, anger sexual excitation when you watch thsoe videos. I used to watch it to stop and calm bad feelings inside of me (like stress or so),so yeah it could be useful for that.

Dunno what gore has to do with spirituality, but maybe watch Passion of the Christ.

I've watched a lot of those types of videos in the past, especially during the rise and fall of Isis.

Car accidents.

Work accidents.

War.

Murder.

Terror attacks.

Massing Shootings.

Suicides.

Executions.

Torture.

I've even seen children die, regrettably.

You name it I've seen it. I remember it. I'll never utter it.

At the time when I seen these videos, it grossed and creeped me out but it didn't touch my soul. It was only years later when I had some distance from it for the severity of what I seen hit me.

I've watched people die. Like, a lot of people. I remember some of their faces vividly, down to the hairs and moles. They were once babies that needed their nappies (or diapers) changing, they were once so vulnerable and fragile that they needed their mummy to survive above all else. Watching someone die violently knowing they were once that vulnerable is a very gut wrenching experience.

In some way I've glad I've seen what I seen, because it's one way of grasping of how f*cling brutal reality is. After seeing all of those nasty ass car accidents I'm certainly careful on the roads. In other ways I'm not, I've probably given myself some sort of severe and complex PTSD.

In other words, I'd recommend staying away from that type of stuff. For your own psyche and to let the poor souls in the videos Rest in Peace.

Watch porn instead. Way better and less psychologically traumatizing.

Can be helpful for getting a better understanding of the brutality of red imo.

It's a numbing/distraction mechanism. I know it because I used to do it myself during my angsty twenties.

Basically you drown out your "mundane" (but very real) fears by exposing yourself to things that seem a thousand times more horrific than whatever you are dealing with in your own day to day life. It gives your vague but omnipresent feeling of anxiety an outlet and creates a fleeting sensation of relief, a feeling of "thank God this didn't happen - and most likely won't happen - to me". The downside? It's only a temporary relief, and after it wears off, the old anxiety comes back again; plus it will deteriorate your mind overtime. So it has basically the same purpose, effect and downsides as a drug habit. It's a bypassing strategy which offers a temporary escape from your emotional issues, but the issues aren't being consciously addressed and therefore never get resolved as long as you keep distracting yourself from them.

So yeah, it's neither a healthy nor an effective way to deal with anxiety. The only way to really free yourself from your chronic fears is to address the underlying root issue, preferably with the help of a therapist; drowning out the symptoms by watching gore or listening to noisy music (or obsessing about spirituality, an especially sneaky bypassing strategy that you can abundantly observe on this forum) is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg and taking painkillers instead of actually fixing the bone.

End of sermon. Please come back next Sunday. :P

Why so serious?

Expanding your mind?

I think there is a profound sublimity in really transgressive stuff (as gore tends to be) that is just intrinsically rewarding.

I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them, but the ones I came across were beneficial for my understanding of reality. They can really rot your mind though and are definitely an unhealthy way to deal with anxiety.

This is the best post you've ever made. It hits the target and is useful. Congratulations!

But it's still better to watch gore videos for a duration of time. A few months or a year can be beneficial just to have a more holistic perspective on planet earth. With the correct vision and contemplation, you can accomplish significant growth.

But be careful because it can also lead you to a dangerous path.
