Nofap And The Effects Of Porn, Masturbation And Abstinence

Perhaps @Leo Gura should take on the challenge himself (at least 30 days of hard mode) and then share his opinion on the subject. We are here to be open-minded about everything, right? (:

Hey friends, new to the forum and thought I might bring this issue up because I haven't seen it here yet. I've been using porn since age 13, and have been attempting to stop for the last two years (i'm 21 now) without much success. Im at the point now where I've given up on trying to willpower this thing. I feel that I need a serious life adjustment in order to knock this habit. Im able to abstain pretty easily when i'm on a vacation or trip without my laptop or phone (because you can't watch porn without the internet, right?) but once I get back home, within the next 2 hours, i'm watching porn.

It's a horrible cycle. When i've been able to abstain for 5+ days, my life seems great! No depression, happy, confident, etc., but after each and every "relapse" my brain starts to see everything in a negative light. I just want to go on a 30 day meditation retreat or something drastic to just SHAKE this addiction OFF. I'm just lost, I don't think i'll ever live a normal life unless I fix this.

I've been on nofap for 5 days now, benefits :

- More confident

- WAY MORE energy. Can sleep 4 hours less and be full charged.

- Way more present, smoother.

- Mood is EVEN more stable.

- Meditation is even easier.

- Emotionnal healing is also made easier. (Finally can see images while working with emotions).

-> 100% recommended and approved.

@Bruno Sousa One hour is just the beginning. Try 3 or 4 hours like I do;) (ego speaking) I don't mean at once, not nearly there yet. But 3 or 4 sessions - sure. I must say I notice magic happening, and yes, absolutely anyone can do it if they wish.

My point of view:

I saw you guys were talking about NoFap. On my journey this topic cross my road too, and I decided to give it a try, since this is the best way to find out for yourself (what it does, how does it work for you as individual).

short history of my "nofap":
- first time tried it about 4-5 months ago, have a few "runs" with no masturbation from 1 week to 6 weeks,

- before I masturbated about 5 times - 10 times a week, and have regular sex with my girlfriend,

- I started this test with same time along with my friend, and we exchange thoughts, ideas, changes, benefits etc. I think it's easier at start if u have someone to talk about it, can be pretty hard take masturbation away :)

BENEFITS (the benefits are very connected together:
1. Stability (i find my self very stable, calmer),

2. Clarity (i started to see things more clearer, talking clearer, seeing solutions fast,...)

3. Focus (a bit improvement on focus)

4. Awareness (I started to noticed that I'm much more aware of many things I did not recognize before), more living in the moment

5. No depression/No Anxiety (well this might be very interesting one, but I think this one is just result of benefits above :)

6. Pretty much fearless

7. Energy and attraction (u can feel your energy more, and seems like girls can feel it too),

8. Honesty (I started to be more honest with myself - very, very important.

Those are main things I started to noticed. I developed listening/reading to other things too. But I think in general, most credit goes to NoFap.

Conclusion:

I think anyone should at least try this. Gives you new pair of lenses :)

I don't know how long will I practise this or how long intervals, but one thing I know for sure now, masturbating on daily bases, is abusing this most powerful energy we have inside. And when we release that energy we become "weaker" or at least less motivated.

I would also want to see this video on this topic from you Leo, and see your perspective on this1 ;)

For any that read this post, I suggest at least don't masturbate in the morning, even with just this little change you'll noticed a difference. Staying charged trough the day.

In anyway, don't beat yourself up if u masturbate a lot, u should not felling any guilt because of it. It is normal, just try not to abuse it to much.

Hope this helps ;)

That's way over the top and exaggerated, the benefits are not that tangible. Say what you want, but all those things are very very subjective and it could be to do with beliefs you ALREADY have, not tangible physical benefits itself. I personally do no fap to see what happens. I do feel a little different mood wise and emotionally in a good way, but i'm not going to come on here and say what you have just claimed. It's as if you have found the answer to life after 5 days of no fap.

Edit: Same goes for anyone else making outrageous claims after such little time

Going 7 days strong. Definitely more energy. That is very good. I always was looking for a way to get more energy but didn't think that #nofap would give me more. I come from a ~20++ times a week masturbation habit and even more time spent searching for more hardcore porn (up to 5 hours a day).

That sounds sounds more creditable!

This thread isn't intended as an addict therapy session. Rather discussing ideas, theories and the effects of porn/masturbation/orgasm/sex/abstinence.

I know this is a very delicate topic for everyone. Why? Because everyone loves to masturbate and nearly everyone is doing it to porn, At this point the two are so deeply ingrained and interconnected that one always goes with the other.

But are we ready for the great porn revolution and the effects it has on our sexuality? The effects of chronic masturbation and over-indulgence in porn are very much real and serious.

The Great Porn Experiment

Why I stopped watching porn

Brief info about me: 25 year old male, stumbled upon porn at the age of 9, started masturbating shortly afterwards. I never really thought about the effects it had on me but I always felt lethargic and unmotivated after a session. One day I realized I haven't had a girlfriend for 4 years and I'm basically a virgin. So I decided to give NoFap a try.

Personally, this has been the biggest stepping stone in my development and what got me into self-improvement in the first place.

The benefits are great. Some of them that I personally experienced after abstaining for a few weeks/months:

  • More confidence
  • More energy
  • Better focus
  • Better memory
  • Natural charisma
  • Clearer skin
  • Better sleep
  • Deeper voice
  • Self-discipline and willpower
  • Stopped drinking sodas
  • Cut out junk food for the most part
  • Eating healthy
  • Started reading books again
  • Working out and getting into the best shape of my life
  • Doing yoga classes and meditation
  • Being more social and going out more
  • Becoming more attractive to the opposite sex
  • Had my first real present moment without the use of drugs

There are a few other, more subtle ones but for me it has been nothing short of an amazing journey. And this is only the beginning. Also I'm currently in a casual relationship for the first time in my life and having sex regulary. That was my goal in the first place because I had severe performance anxiety issues (Erectile Dysfunction). Now I don't even want to have sex as much - I want to channel my energy into more productive things.

Long list of benefits as stated by hundreds of people.

Why people who do NoFap become more successful

Discuss.

So what is NoFap?  Not jerking off?  What does masturbation abstinence have to do with your list of benefits?  Not giving attitude, merely curious.  Could you explain in more detail?

I have been on a NoFap journey for one and a half year now with all the ups and downs. The biggest difference I see is my level of confidence. It's just amazing. After a relapse social situations just become so akward to me.

To everyone who doubt NoFap: Try it out by yourself! You can't lose anything by trying. Go at least one month without and test it yourself. I was very critical in the beginning as well but the results were just amazing.

About NoFap being a placebo: Once after a relapse I did not judge it. And yes, it was different. By judging you make everthing worse. But there was still a change. Again most noticeable for me in social situations and level of confidence. Not a prove, only my experience.

Why no masturbation: It is easier to quit porn if you quit masturbation for a while as well. Just because many people did both together for so long and so imagine porn when they masturbate. On top many guys just notice a drop of energy if they masturbate (and orgasm).

To everyone who struggels with NoFap: Watch Leos video about goal setting. If you don't set a proper goal which you actually  write down you just have a vage desire. A goal is key. And stop focusing on not watching porn. Focus on a new life vison and again, write it down.

Interesting that some people experience an improved focus while stopping masturbation. I've experienced after just two days that I get horny as hell, my mind tends to wander and daydreaming about having wild sex  .... I've stopped this experiment after 3 days or so.

Probably I could stop masturbation if I could get sex every day or every other day but going completely without it? Uhhh ....

I'm a 27 year old female and I tend to masturbate once or twice a day, definitely in the morning before work as I find the benefit for me is more focus, I can't understand the people that are doing the nofap thing who say it's giving them more focus, I would personally after a few days be fantasising about every man I saw and would get so distracted from my job. Basically I totally agree with what Wini said and I could stop masturbating if I had regular sex but it's such a sore subject in my relationship that I have made masturbation my source of sexual release, I usually quickly masturbate on a night right before bed to stop myself from asking my partner for sex, it makes me feel empowered too.

Anyway I think basically my question was, does this no masturbation thing translate for women, as there is less physical exertion for women, no sperm produced, so could we expect to see the same benefits as men?

Are there any women who practice no masturbation and find that it benefits them?

You are right. If you quit you fantasise a lot about the opposite sex. But only for some weeks. After some time it stops and goes back to a normal level. Many men have reported that they start to see woman as human beings again and not some meat to bang (if had mixed porn in). So it's just about giving time to the brain to reajust. Otherwise everybody who didn't masturbate would have to be horny as fuck 24/7.

I don't know about woman though, but here you will find reports:

I'm just curious: Could you be more specific? NoFap and NoSex or just NoFap?

I ask because according to a (chinese?) study on this topic the male testosterone level accumulates while not ejaculating until the 6.(?) day but after that a dramatic drop in the testosterone level occurs. So your testosterone level should have been dropped to a very low level already ...

According to my personal experience (with supplements, medication and blood tests) my well-being is strongly positive related to my testosterone level ...
