What's with NoFap?

@Swarnim Honestly after looking at different videos and trying it many times, nofap is a heavily stage blue/orange practice.

Theres a huge difference between forcing sexual abstinence for a long period of time and naturally transcending sexual urges due to raising ones vibration/consciousness.

This distinction is a valid one. I would define classical nofap as the act of repressing a certain compulsion. That compulsion can be based on a natural energetic inclination, or it can be fueled by mentally grounded patterns of behavior. Of course these two things naturally arise together in various degrees, but people who fap frequently are familiar with the phenomenom of trying to "force" a fap. That is where I would start to define excessive indulgence, when you fap as a mental compulsion even if you don't feel physically inclined.

That is where controlled restriction can be helpful. This way you're not trying to restict your natural sexual energy but instead you're trying to rewire a mental pattern. This form of repression can be very beneficial. The problem however is that over time, it often leads to the opposite problem of excessive repression. Because of the fact that the mental and physical urges arise together, sooner or later you will be going overboard with controlling your mental urges and start repressing natural sexual energy aswell.

I believe this is where the majority of the nofap phenomenon is at today: excessive repression. You could say the mental urge only gets inverted into the opposite form without solving the problematic behavioral aspect. In other words, the problem of unhealthy mentally conditioned behavior, instead of being addressed, mutates and starts to inhabit the other side of the spectrum (extreme indulgence vs. extreme repression). To use nofap as a healthy tool is a balancing act of listening to your body and keeping tabs on your mental state.

Limit it to once a week or so.

Everything should be done in moderation, even nofap.

And yes I have gone longer than a month without it and experienced increase in energy, however it has also its downsides since it is suppresion. Your sexual desire decreases too much after you do it for a month+.

I reccommend to do nofap long term only if you have a GF.

This "flatline" thing. Does it also happen if you keep having tantric sex (without cumming)?

Cause I've never heard of that happening.

I suppose it makes perfect sense that if you are not sexually active, your body turns it off. Why complain about that, it would just be torture otherwise :)

@dflores321 Spiral dynamics stages are not levels in a video game where the next level gets to look down on and judge the previous one. There is nothing wrong with any stage.

@flowboy You can try and force yourself to stop fapping thats 100% cool, although thats just not what im into. I started noticing that nofap is not the right path for me when I saw that many nofappers are actually religious/converted to religion, this shows me how they think, this also shows me that they are motivated by shame/guilt, this also shows me that they are deep down still afraid of reality/god and need a belief system to help them. For a few people it can work, but most are still chained to pmo no matter how many years they've quit.

Another way to put it is that they're spellbound by compulsive mental patterns which get expressed through every avenue of their life. In their attempts to relinquish their tormented behavior, it only re-emerges through a different form. It's like trying to decapitate a multi-headed hydra, or to catch your own shadow, or to smoothen out the waves on a lake. Sometimes you must just let the beast devour you, leave yourself alone and watch the lake as the weather calms down.

Bad for you hormones / health. Would be interesting to see testosterone levels of someone who has had no sexual activity in multiple months. Maybe someone should test celibate monks.

Sure you can quit fapping for a few months, even a few years by force, but if its not naturally transcended then you will always be chained by it. Thats why these nofap gurus talk a lot about practices to ease urges, in fact they still deal with urges to fap. Also, your subconscious mind picks up the activity, but not your opinion on it, this is why just the name nofap is laughable lol, because when you think "Im practicing nofap", your subconscious mind only sees "Fap". The same thing with quitting drugs for example, when you think "im quitting alcohol", your subconscious mind picks up "Alcohol".

Spiral Dynamics is a modal about human collective evolution and how values change at each stage. Nofap is a movement against excessive pornography use, either digitally for analogue. Spiral Dynamics is different from Nofap.

While it's true that the subconscious mind takes all statements and recorded experiences as truth, it's also true that the conscious mind is the part of the brain that splits which is true or false. Some self discipline is necessary for some that have weak will power.

@fridjonk Damn where was this during my no-fap streak? Would have prevented me from "self-raping" my "dangerous sin zone".

"God is not a conclusion, it is a sudden revelation. When you see a rose it is not that you go through a logical solipsism, "This is a rose, and roses are beautiful, so this must be beautiful." The moment you see it, the head stops spinning thoughts. On the contrary, your heart starts beating faster. It is something totally different from the idea of truth." -Osho

I had a 19+ years streak of nofap. Makes no difference for me really.

I also don't care about having sex or getting women so I'm an outlier in this regard though

Of course. Reality is experienced through differences. Nofap is only beneficial if you're already rinsing it twice a day.

You are probably part of the lucky people not plagued by high levels of horniness. This actually makes spiritual practices slightly easier.

Well, there are a lot of theories and information out there about this. Personally I see this as a great opportunity to practice letting go if you are a frequent fapper.

But what about all this energy stuff? And what benefits do you think it has onto the spiritual/self-actualization process?

Are you currently on Nofap? Any changes you've experienced so far?

@flowboy Ultimately theres nothing wrong with any stage. That doesnt mean its always smart to do something that pertains to a lower stage.

If you identify with either doing pmo or not doing pmo isnt important, what matters is that either way you are still identifying with pmo, and this is the weakness i see in the nofap community.

@dflores321 I suppose if they get all ideological and moralistic about it, I would have to agree.

I've seen that also in the videos on the topic by 'Universal Man'. So judgmental. 'Do this not that. It's weak. It's wrong'

So yeah... but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I know that I am more happy and effective when I've not cummed for 10 days. Don't need the nofap community to tell me what to do though :)

As long as you decide and follow through on trying Nofap, and know where to funnel that extra energy, you can work more on whatever your passions are. Maybe use that extra energy to improve other areas of your life, then decide if dating is worth it.
