At some point you have to ask yourself is letting their ideas to fester unabated just in order to prevent maybe a handful of people seeing them as "matyrs" really worth it though? When a social cancer like QAnon grows big enough to warrant ending, the long-term gain of cutting it out beats the short-term pain of a few looneys seeing themselves as matyrs IMO. Plus frankly, that's still on them. No government or agency has a responsibility to let criminals continue their illegal activity just because stopping that might cause a backlash.

Look at Alex Jones' banning from YouTube. For a while people were saying he's being censored, but now who still cares? Probably only a handful of die-hard loyalists. For everyone else though, his ideas have stopped spreading, which is a net positive.

What people don't appreciate is that society has ALWAYS coerced minds into what they are and are not allowed to think. This is nothing new. Because thoughts can be very dangerous. Allowing a true free-flow of thoughts is as dangerous as allowing free-flow of rocket launchers. Hence society has always and will always coerce thought. That is one of society's top functions. Society sets the parameters of legitimate discourse. And of course all these parameters are relative, biased, and selfish -- because they are designed to serve survival, not truth.

Facebook is not under pressure for truth, it is under pressure for survival.

It is a function, limited by nature, like all societies and platforms, learn to use and get used for empowerment

For sure, but there are parameters which are more conscious and serve truth better than others. The equivalent would be a society that allows street lynchings vs one that doesn't. One environment will allow for more people to discover truth than others. I would say Facebooks step here is small but it is in the right direction in terms of raising the consciousness of society.
