Low consciousness addiction?

18 posts in this topic

I find myself wanting to watch low consciousness television sometimes like reality shows or the news (petty shit)...or listen to music that is rapping/singing about low consciousness things like hoes, drugs, partying and some dumb shit...

I feel like when I do engage with these things - that I feel some sort of relief at the moment but then not so good afterward.

Has this just become an addiction?  I mean - I don't feel great afterwards and sometimes find myself wishing I'd have spent the time on something productive.  Is there a need for this type of rest and what other kinds of "rest" can I replace these activities with?  Relating this to frolicking through life...the idea of play is interesting to me..

Wondering if anyone has some valuable insight into this?

Of course it's an addiction.

The ego-mind just clings to whatever maintains its status quo.

The apple doesn't fall far from the apple tree. You are a zombie of your culture. Mechanically executing sub-routines like a robot with virtually zero independent thought or agency.

You follow the path of least resistance, like an oblivious sheep in a herd walking towards a cliff. You do what all the other sheep do.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

I feel like I’m motivated for other things which takes up most of my day..I think the problem is I haven’t found any sort of higher quality “release” or “play” type of activity I can easily do everyday that has no goals attached to it and is purely for the bliss of doing it, allows me to stay in a higher consciousness level..maybe I’ve just been using lower consciousness releases (mainstream media) but now am looking for better options.  I have a project I’ve been working on in alignment with my life purpose but a lot of the work I’m doing rn for it is mundane gritty type of work.

To me, it feels like seeking energy here. You will not find true bliss in the timeline. It can only be found here and now - in whatever is happening in this moment.

That’s just one perspective from an empathic Green. You’ll get many different perspectives here.

@Leo Gura I've been dealing with that lately and have been working in cutting out the shit. My problem now is: What the hell do I do after I've done my routine(meditation, yoga, workout, reading, piano, studying)  and just want to relax?

Because in my case it's a low consciousness addiction of course :D:D I do it sometimes even if I actually don't want to..I'm not horny but there's just this urge there. And I don't like how it makes me relate to women purely as sexual objects but that's a different topic.

I know what you mean.  It always feels like I'm working (working out, meditating, reading, working on projects, etc etc) The best advice I got from this thread is..to seek energetically higher activities to use to relax.  So for me, that means different music, hiking once a week and I'm still figuring out what else I can do (might use google for ideas lol).

It seems like it's a natural shift anyway..I mean I can no longer scroll through my fb news feed and the initiation of this question - it's been bugging me in the back of my mind for a little while now.

Discover by creating, and therefore connecting, to your higher consciousness, through creativity and developing yourself. Get an instrument and learn to play it. I’m bias to guitar and singing, as it is a plethora of spiritual practices rolled into a fun creative activity. You’ll develop concentration, determination, perseverance, focus,...and if you stick with it, just an hour a day-ish, you’ll tap into another level of concentration, flow, and zone. Not to mention it is a fun releasing & relaxing way to develop all the muscles involved in breath control (similar to meditation & yoga but combined and fun). Also, this opens a new higher conscious socialbility with other musicians & performances, building confidence, extroversion, and a new level of unity with others. These benefits of this creative development naturally enhance all other areas of your life, simultaneously deepening your spirituality, resulting in a deeper, richer and more profound, now, and it all goes with you everywhere you ‘go’.

On a personal note, this reminds me of a time that after I had been playing out for a decade or so, someone asked me while in between sets -“How do you not care what you’re face looks like, while you’re singing?” It blew my mind because it reminded me I was once in that same self conscious place, and it really drove home how much playing guitar & singing had given me, what a blessing in disguise it is, especially in that I feel I was born an introvert.

*Most people don’t think they can sing well, because they try it, and don’t learn how. Everybody can sing well, just like everyone can meditate. It’s a practice.

Anything creative, even sketching, or painting a picture, wood carving, sculpting clay, (anything creative) regardless of level of “talent”, is creating. The pertinent factor to your expansion of consciousness is that you are doing it, not ‘how good you are at it’. Over time, this is deeply connective to “The Creator”, and bestows a very strong genuine real sense of your Being.

Are there any high conscious television shows or movies that you like?

Or any high conscious music that you like?

I'm dealing with this myself. I went through a period where I was meditating quite a bit and tried to cut out everything at once that I felt was low conscious and it caused a major backlash. I'm still recovering.

I tried to cut out

- rap music (huge fan)

- youtube vlogs, facebook, pop culture, etc

- news and politics

- message boards

- fashion and clothing

- porn

- dating

It feels impossible to remove these things. I'm not sure I even want to. I don't want to fail at it again. The urges were like wanting to use drugs too and I found myself slipping up while not even noticing.

@Widdle Puppy Note that the following is just my assumption about you and might not be true.
I don't know exactly your situation and your mental state but I have the wibe that you try to cut out things just out of moralization.  You have a belief that these things are "bad" for you and you try to act "good" by eliminating them. Deep inside your don't really believe that they are bad for you,  you don't really "understand" why they are bad, you're acting on a belief, not on genuine insight.
Such thing always backfires, because it's not genuine and true enough. You have to use your your willpower to fulfill your moralism. And that never works long term because our willpower is finite.
What I'd advice is to look deeply inwards. The point is to move from Morality to pure awareness, to having a genuine insight for yourself. Do a hardcore self-therapy and contemplate each thing you mentioned. Why do you really want to get rid of it? Will it really make your life better? In what ways, how? Be super self-honest, honesty is the key. Unless you're brutally self-honest nothing will work!

I hope It was useful
